Range Trotter #666

Postby HowlingHooves » Sat Jul 17, 2021 4:37 am

Range Trotters are the result of crossbreeding Orlov Trotters, Finnhorses, Welsh Cobs (section C & D) and Hanoverians. Later crosses of Quarter Horses, Paint and Appaloosas to gain color and to give a boost to their hardiness. With a height average of 13-15 hands, they're a hardy breed with characteristics for various disciplines.

Created for use as work, carriage and leisure riding horses originally, they now serve as long-distance range horses, such as work with Park Rangers and mounted officers.

Willing and eager personalities, most are quickly trained to be bombproof and therefore trusted mounts in all lines of work; some are being seen in local show jumping competitions, others are notably used in therapeutic sessions for their calm temperaments. Harness races and endurance trials are common for the breed, as they are able to sustain an extended trot without tire. Cross-Country competitions see some of the taller Trotters, but due to their cob lineage this is still uncommon.

Despite the variety of competitions and work these horses are being seen in, they are still famously skilled as endurance racers. Many competitors have chosen Range Trotters due to their tireless work ethic, as well as the ease in which they can be trained. Many have become champions in endurance trials, and they have quickly become a sought after breed for their natural ability.

This horned dude offers trotters a new marking, the Smoke gene!
Smoke is a black only gene (E_ aa) that mimics pangare, giving the soft points a silver-grey color!
It cannot be seen on chestnuts, and it cannot be seen with Agouti.
It does not color the mane or tail, just the body of the horse.

Little backstory with this stallion. ♥

Found wandering alone by some park rangers, he was finally cornered and taken back to their station to treat some injuries they had found him suffering with. His horns are solid, but warm and so believed to be connected to him directly, rather than just made of keratin; and they can glow, just like his eyes! He's young, but very aggressive and headstrong even for a stallion!

Due to the odd nature of this fellow, the rangers and their vet team have decided to adopt him out to someone who will be equipped to handle his assertive and, well, violent temperament. They drafted up a contract for whoever does end up taking him home, and will be extensively interviewing anyone who offers; this horse cannot be ridden in or used to compete whatsoever! He has slowly become accustomed up to being handled with a halter currently, but after one too many drastic mood swings from calm to vengeful this was a set-in-stone stipulation in the contract. This horse is absolutely not to be ridden in the show ring, and authorities have stated they will monitor this due to the dangerous nature of him. They want him to be happy, but they also want to be sure he isn't going to cause some sort of chaos in the riding community.

He does okay with other horses, and when being monitored he doesn't seem interested in using those horns of his to try and maul any horse companion, even if he isn't in one of his better moods. That's a lucky break!
His horns and eyes do glow, brighter when he's in one of his foul moods, so it's a very telling part of his personality.

Fill out the form to apply for this stallion.

    End Date: 7/25

    Username: charlieputh
    Show Name: --
    Barn Name: fenrisúlfr

    Gender: Stallion
    Height: 14.1 hh
    Eye Color: Turbulent Stormfront (Glowing)
    Phenotype: Black Smoke
    Genotype: EE aa + Smoke
    • Hoof paint cannot pass to offspring.
    • Smoke passes like pangare, 50% chance.

This guy cannot be used in competitions, to clear any confusion up.

You agree and will abide by the stipulation this this horse is not to be ridden in the showing circuits? Yes
Who will be his handler(s): Rhiannah, she is a fearless trainer and handler and is not afraid of any horse, no matter what they’ve done or tend to do. She loves the feisty ones because they are the fighters, and they put up a bit of a challenge for her. She prefers to work alone with the horses however, she finds that an audience helps them progress no further at all.
Will there be a veterinarian on hand in case of injury to himself or another horse? Yes, Phoebe. Phoebe is an extremely talented vet who always puts the animal horse. She specializes in equine services and has worked with us for over 20 years. Her loyalty and kindness makes her the most trustworthy woman in the animal practices we’ve ever come across.
Will he be used at stud, or private breeding?Private breeding, though only if he breeds without trouble. If he resists, then we will drop the whole idea, as we want him to be as comfortable and happy as possible.
Is this horse going to be kept to himself, or with one or more companions? One more, Midnight, it’s helpful for him to have another horned equine around. Midnight is calm and kind, he’ll have her to trust, if not our staff.
If kept with others, will there be a more constant companion and who will this be? Midnight, these two will almost always be together, we think that if they are kept in neighboring stalls, they’ll bond easier, and Hades will have a friend to feel safe around.
This horse has been noted to have violent outbursts, how will this be handled by you and/or your staff? We will bring Phoebe out to check in on him, make sure he’s okay, and if he is, then we will bring Midnight into his stall to settle him down. In this case,
If this horse does not fit well into your stables, are you prepared to contact this station and return him so he may be fit somewhere else? Yes, we would like what is best for him. If he gets stressed or starts having outbursts regularly, we will bring him straight here, as long as he still can visit Midnight, or vice versa.

You agree and will abide by the stipulation this this horse is not to be ridden in the showing circuits? I agree!
Who will be his handler(s): Only the most experienced Bayleaf Equestrian Center employees. Although, he does seem to be the type of Trotter who prefers to have just one human who handles him and works with him.
Will there be a veterinarian on hand in case of injury to himself or another horse? Absolutely.
Will he be used at stud, or private breeding? Private breedings.
Is this horse going to be kept to himself, or with one or more companions? The first thing we would want to do, is get him settled to his overwhelming surroundings at Bayleaf Equestrian Center. Depending on his attitude and how he reacts, he may be paired with a pasture-mate he gets along with relatively well. But for the time being, he will be kept on his own. For his safety, as well as for the safety of others.
If kept with others, will there be a more constant companion and who will this be? If he does react accordingly, and seems to be interested in having a pasture-mate, Godiva would be a great match for him. Godiva isn't dominant, nor is she submissive. She is relaxed and experienced, and would most likely be the best candidate for being with Abaculus.
This horse has been noted to have violent outbursts, how will this be handled by you and/or your staff? With the use of constant live cameras placed all over Bayleaf Equestrian Center, Abaculus will be kept a close eye on, as well as the other residents. Staff do live on-site, and if he does have a violent outburst, the first thing to do would be to calm him and ensure the safety of him, and those around him. The best thing would be to give him space, and again, ensure he doesn't injure himself or others.
If this horse does not fit well into your stables, are you prepared to contact this station and return him so he may be fit somewhere else? Absolutely. It wouldn't be fair to keep Abaculus somewhere he doesn't fit.

You agree and will abide by the stipulation this this horse is not to be ridden in the showing circuits?
Who will be his handler(s): Our veteran handler, who has the most experience with wild horses.
Will there be a veterinarian on hand in case of injury to himself or another horse? Yes.
Will he be used at stud, or private breeding? Private Breeding
Is this horse going to be kept to himself, or with one or more companions? We think it'd be beneficial if he got used to socializing, so he will occasionally be left out with a couple of the more gentle horses.
If kept with others, will there be a more constant companion and who will this be? Amelia is our first option, she's very relaxed. Hopefully she'll help Diavolo be comfortable here.
This horse has been noted to have violent outbursts, how will this be handled by you and/or your staff? He will be put in a separate pen to isolate and cool down.
If this horse does not fit well into your stables, are you prepared to contact this station and return him so he may be fit somewhere else? Yes, though we hope it will not have to come to that. We are willing to open our arms to any horse in need.

Show Name: Polar North's Dark Harbinger Of Destruction
Barn Name: Scorn
Halter: Black
Prompt:
You agree and will abide by the stipulation this this horse is not to be ridden in the showing circuits? Yes. He poses a danger to others and is highly unpredictable, it would be both unsafe and unwise to enter this horse in a showing circuit of any kind. Scorn will be tended to in the manner of, and considered, a retired horse.
Who will be his handler(s): Jack Briar, as he has had experience with more... Difficult and unpredictable animals. He will receive assistance from his partner Gabe Smith, as well as the ranch owner, Sam Marshall, though he will work with Jack in a much more direct manner.
Will there be a veterinarian on hand in case of injury to himself or another horse? Yes. There is always at least one veterinarian available at a time for the animals at Polar North, Scorn will be treated accordingly to his injuries and those that others may sustain will be top priority.
Will he be used at stud, or private breeding? Private breedings, though he may be once selectively studded, as the ranch owner is concerned that his offspring would be used for nefarious purposes.
Is this horse going to be kept to himself, or with one or more companions? Scorn will sleep and eat by himself, though he may be introduced to more docile horses of the same size and opposing gender to attempt to socialize him. He is under no circumstances allowed, however, to be introduced to Jack's horse, Crimson, nor anything smaller than himself, as he poses a serious threat.
If kept with others, will there be a more constant companion and who will this be? He will not be kept with others, though if under some mysterious circumstance, he is able to bond to another farm animal, they may be kept with him but under almost 24-hour surveillance to ensure the safety of both creatures.
This horse has been noted to have violent outbursts, how will this be handled by you and/or your staff? Jack has had experience with this due to Crimson as well as other animals he has handled in his past, the horse will be given space to calm down so long as it is not injuring itself. If the horse is injuring itself, it may need to be administered with a mild tranquilizing dart and examined medically to ensure that it is still in good health and condition.
If this horse does not fit well into your stables, are you prepared to contact this station and return him so he may be fit somewhere else?
Of course, Polar North has had several animals that have had to be returned or rehomed in the past, though the programme truly tries their best to provide a permanent home and appropriate lifestyle for every animal they take in. If Scorn does not seem to be working out or consistently provides injuries to himself, staff and other animals, or has done an irreparable amount of damage, the station will be contacted to try to find a better and more suitable home for Scorn.

Show Name: The Dark Chariot
Barn Name: Deimos
An Ancient Greek name, Deimos, means terror.
In Roman mythology, Mars was the god of war, and the Ancient Greek equivalent was Ares, who had twin sons, Deimos and Phobos. When two moons were discovered orbiting the planet Mars, they were given the names of Ares’ sons.
Halter: Pale blue
Prompt:
You agree and will abide by the stipulation this this horse is not to be ridden in the showing circuits? Yes, he will live out his days roaming our pastures - doing as he pleases.

Who will be his handler(s): He'll likely be cared for by our most experienced handler due to his behavioural issues.

Will there be a veterinarian on hand in case of injury to himself or another horse? We thankfully have a veterinary clinic that specialises in equine care just 20 minutes away and their veterinarians are always willing to come out to see us in the case of an emergency.

Will he be used at stud, or private breeding? He will most certainly be used in private breedings with some of our own mares, public studding in his future is unlikely. We wouldn't want to risk injury to someone else's mare.

Is this horse going to be kept to himself, or with one or more companions? He will be kept alone for the first week or so, to help him settle down. He will be able to see and smell our other Trotters but will not be able to interact with them. Once he has met and feels safe with the people working with him, he will slowly be introduced to our Trotters.

If kept with others, will there be a more constant companion and who will this be? We think our calm yearling Dunnock will be a great fit for him!

This horse has been noted to have violent outbursts, how will this be handled by you and/or your staff? We'll keep a close eye on him. We have video surveilence in our the pastures nearest to the stables so any altercations will be quickly dealt with to minimise risk of injury. This is where our newer Trotters are kept to see how they are getting on before introducing them to the herd.

If this horse does not fit well into your stables, are you prepared to contact this station and return him so he may be fit somewhere else?: Of couse, but we're willing to put in the work with him to integrate him into our herd

Will there be a veterinarian on hand in case of injury to himself or another horse? always!
Will he be used at stud, or private breeding? probably private breedings but may be used to stud only a few times if we see it fit and trust him enough
Is this horse going to be kept to himself, or with one or more companions? I will introduce him to the other horses and if there are any he likes to hang out with I'll put him with them.
If kept with others, will there be a more constant companion and who will this be? If he bonds with anybody that will be the only other horse he stays with, if not then after he has gotten used to everything we may try again so he is not lonely.
This horse has been noted to have violent outbursts, how will this be handled by you and/or your staff? We will attempt to keep him calm and separate the other horse out allowing him to have his moment without hurting anybody. And if somebody or something is hurt is the process we will make sure the vet is on close watch.
If this horse does not fit well into your stables, are you prepared to contact this station and return him so he may be fit somewhere else? yes! If something does not end up working out we will return him so he may find a better home

Questions answered by the owner/manager of Scarlet Raven Estates; Amelia Charodette

You agree and will abide by the stipulation this this horse is not to be ridden in the showing circuits? Yes. We hope he will trust us in time; but we understand that he is not fit for riding.
Who will be his handler(s): Hannah Blanco, as she is out most experienced trainer. But as she is currently starting her young foal, I will be working with him as well.
Will there be a veterinarian on hand in case of injury to himself or another horse? Yes. In fact, a veterinarian boards his horse at our barn, so we’ll have one readily available if needed.
Will he be used at stud, or private breeding? This is to be determined, though most likely private breeding. We wouldn’t want him to hurt another’s horse, even if he hasn’t shown aggression towards other horses.
Is this horse going to be kept to himself, or with one or more companions? At first, we’ll be keeping him in one of our larger stalls, and see who he gets along with. Soon enough, we hope he will be with companions, as solitude probably will not fit with a horse of his temperament.
If kept with others, will there be a more constant companion and who will this be? Flame is our most easygoing horse, and we believe him to be a good fit for adjusting horses. Hopefully him and Adagio will become friends in time. They will be in pasture together with my own horse, Mahi, as well.
This horse has been noted to have violent outbursts, how will this be handled by you and/or your staff? As I live on the property, I’ll be there to handle him most of the time. I will work to calm him down, and take him away from others if he gets too aggressive. If I am not on the property at the time, I have staff members who are at the barn all times of day who know what to do.
If this horse does not fit well into your stables, are you prepared to contact this station and return him so he may be fit somewhere else? Yes we are. If he does not fit with us, he’ll be placed somewhere he can be happy and healthy.

You agree and will abide by the stipulation this this horse is not to be ridden in the showing circuits? Yes, of course!

Who will be his handler(s): A select individual of the White Tangerine Equine Retreat staff will be his handler. At this point who is undetermined as it will highly depend on which staff member he takes a liking to with his volatile temper. All of the staff at the Retreat are trained to handle explosive horses so no matter who takes charge of his daily care he will be in good hands.

Will there be a veterinarian on hand in case of injury to himself or another horse? Yes, always. The Retreat has a vet at the ready almost always due to the constant intake of rescues and for those minor accidental injuries.

Will he be used at stud, or private breeding? Private Breeding; his aggressive behavior will limit his breeding ability.

Is this horse going to be kept to himself, or with one or more companions?

If kept with others, will there be a more constant companion and who will this be?

This horse has been noted to have violent outbursts, how will this be handled by you and/or your staff?

If this horse does not fit well into your stables, are you prepared to contact this station and return him so he may be fit somewhere else? Yes, nothing would make the Retreat staff happier than to see a horse placed somewhere they can get the care they need to fully flourish.
