Sitting on the windowsill was probably Elio’s favorite pastime. He would eat breakfast, read the newest book series he had gotten and drink his iced tea on the sill. Every once and a while, Mani would join him.
The brothers were total opposites, but couldn’t be much closer. Mani slept all day and charted the stars at night. Elio gardened, read and baked brownies during the day and dreamt at night. Tonight though – tonight Elio would stay up all night, just for Mani.
For he had a secret, special surprise – just for him. You see - tonight the fireflies are going to appear soon. And Elio had the most perfect idea.
So, while Mani dreamt about sailing through the galaxies – Elio gathered a net and some mason jars (don’t worry – he poked little holes through the tops of the jars). Catching fireflies were their thing to do together – one would hold a net while the other would follow with the jar. Since winter had come all the fireflies left. But now it was spring – and the fireflies would be lighting up the sky once more.
When the sun went down, he saw tons of the little bugs dancing and twirling around one another. Elio rushed to get Mani – and when Mani saw the fireflies, his eyes lit up. The brothers ran around the clearing and caught a total of five mason jar’s worth of fireflies that night. It was one of the best night’s that they could have ever had.
