Tangled in those god forsaken brambles. Did I forget to mention how this cold weather is going to affect my coat?! Oh, you don’t care? You want to know how I got here? Well then, here’s my story.. try to keep up.
The mess of tails and bodies scattering all around Akeel only made things worse. After taking such a tumble from the crash, his mind was spinning. It was the moment his flight or fight instinct would have kicked in but it didn’t. Within the panic he was shoved by several horses towards the woods.
With his mind starting to finally come back mc he heard a shriek! He looked to his right to find a mare being trampled under hooves in the panic. Akeel quickly dodged and darted to her side and shoved a few stallions out of the way before trampling her further. “Hey are you okay? Come on, get up. We have to go!” He bent down to give her a shoulder to lean on. “Thanks ..” the sun faded Sabino mare said while out of breath. “ Try to stick close to me” akeel said to the mare.
She gave a Kurt nod and with that they were off to follow the rest of the horses within the woods. Racing as if something evil was tail lengths from snatching them. They leaped and bounded over trees, bushes, puddles and holes. It felt like they had been running for years but only to be yards. Thankfully it seemed as if the stampede was coming to a halt.
As adrenaline and blood flow came to a normal range so did the heard of horses within a clearing. Aleek kept the the younger mares flank just in case she was to have a fall from being trampled. An older stallion called out into the heard “If you are injured or are needing help please move towards the right side of the clearing!” Turning his neck, he spotted an older blue roan mare with a misplaced blaze apon her face. She was already attending to a mother and foal.
Akeel nudged the mare he had helped in that direction. She nickered a thank and worked her way there. Akeel had felt a sudden urge to drink. Running within the cold must have really worked up a sweat and dehydration in his body. He glanced around the clearing in hopes there may be a small stream or puddle. His head and ears dropped with dissatisfaction; Nothing.
Giving a curt snort. Decided he’d take on the responsibility of finding a water source. He was sure there’d be others in search of it. Akeel took off trotting to the outskirts of the clearing with one task on his mind.
Going at a slower pace, these woods didn’t seem to scary. Of course the cold winds setting in didn’t give much hope though. Along his trek the wind began to pick up. Taking a short stop he hunched his shoulders and gave a shiver. If water was to be found it better be soon.
What was that sound? The interest made his ear perk. It could have definitely been a trick playing his mind but it sure sounded like a babbling brook! Akeel felt his heart leap a little with joy. Giving a giddy snort he took off towards the sound. Eyes wide with happiness, akeel came apon a small creek flowing with crystal clear water.
Throwing his head back, he gave a few whinnies. He felt accomplished with finding a resource the heard would need. Bending down he decided to take a few drinks before heading back. The feeling of the ice cold water sliding down his throat was both a blessing and a curse. Curse being he deep down inside wished he was still within his warm stall. It was for sure a shame that stable had closed down
Unbeknownst to akeel the wind had picked up quite fiercely. When it finally caught his attention, the wind started whipping sporadically through the bare trees. Whistling and branches smacking against each other. This was not a safe environment to be in he thought. “I better get going before something happens” he said aloud.
Getting ready to turn from the creek and head back to the clearing. A loud crack rang through the trees. Sounding like thunder had fallen from the sky. A fairly large tree crashed to the forest floor right behind akeel. Scared for his life, the flight or fight feeling kicked in. Flight was definitely a good response in this instance.
Having no choice but to jump over the creek akeel fled further from the clearing. Rushing through the forest once again, his adrenaline spiked higher then last. This time though leaves and twigs flew through the air. Making it much more difficult to see and navigate.
Heading to an even thicker part of the forest, the wind began picked up even more. Twigs and leaves began to stick within his mane. Twisting and knotting more then before. A rather large stick slammed into his face. Temporarily blinding his vision.
Akeel let out a shriek swinging his head side to side in pain. Not seeing the danger that lie ahead he pushed forward. Continuing forward his hoof caught a root from a tree. He tumbled forward into a thicket. Scratching his skin and roughing him up further.
Coming to a halt he was finally able to gather his thoughts and surroundings. Huh that was funny, the trees were all facing the wrong direction. Oh wait, they weren’t but he was! His heart started to pound a little more and he struggled to move his legs and body. He let out several loud shrills into the forest.
Lucky for him though a rider and mare came to his rescue err rather unpredictable predicament. He was always one to think he could have taken care of himself when younger. But today had definitely proved his survival skills in a nutshell. Relief was an understatement for this stallion.

Any rate this is how I ended in those goD awful brambles. Do stick around though, my story’s just beginning...
