four main personality traits wrote:/
● magnanimous - having or showing a generous and kind nature ●
"I-I wouldn't use such a long, fancy word like that! Maybe something along the lines of just 'generous' would do. And it's really no big deal to me; shouldn't it be second nature to be good at heart? Everyone needs a hand sometimes, and it happens every so often that I'm that hand. I'm just glad to help, really."/
● adroit - clever or skilful ●
"Gosh, that's just too much. Thank you, though! I am making my way through college just fine, but I'm sure it's not sheer intelligence. It's a lot of hard work, although when you put your mind to it you can definitely get through it. As for skilful, my mum did used to say that I was particularly deft with my hands when I used help her out at the cafe. So there's that, perhaps."/
● reticent - not revealing one's thoughts or feelings readily ●
"I'm a little shy... I guess. I would really just rather be left to myself sometimes. Too many people make me quite nervous - I'm introverted, you see. I'm more of a listener than a talker; all the girls in my family are absolute chatterboxes, you see. Me, on the other hand? I like to have this sense of controlled loneliness... It's not too bad of a thing."
● pragmatic - dealing with things in a sensible and realistic manner ●●
"Of course I have dreams. Everyone does. Mine just tend to be based on practical considerations. I'm not exactly a head-up-in-the-clouds kind of guy, you know? I like realism and order. I believe that can help me succeed with my dreams, and increases the chance of achievement. It assures that I don't let myself down."
[ PAST ]●●●●Izumi Aoki's childhood unfolded in the small city of Himeji. Born to a wonderfully creative but busy mother and a father who was barely present at all, he grew up with a natural quality of independence. The Aokis owned a quaint cafe, with Izumi's mother in charge; he always assumed his father was in on the family business, but it was never clear what part he played or where he was most of the time at all. Still, Izumi led quite a happy life as a kid, quite content to be left to himself.
●●●●At the age of six, Izumi became an older brother to twin sisters. His mother's life seemed as hectic as ever - managing the cafe, making and baking for the customers, cooking and cleaning, taking care of the children - while his father seemed to be fading further and further away. Izumi took up many of his mother's errands and helped her out at the cafe whenever he could. He kept his sisters occupied, tending to them when their parents could not, and often had to wake his mother from slumber when she dozed off making pastries in the early hours of the morning. Interaction with other kids in the neighbourhood was rare, as Izumi was preoccupied with aiding his family. He worked tirelessly, often staying up late with her at night, nibbling on sakuramochis that they both knew wouldn't be sold the day after.
●●●●Upon entering junior high school, Izumi was considered a recluse by his fellow students. He proved to be incredibly intelligent, but never had the courage that prompted him to answer questions in class and attract attention from his teachers. Instead, he would curl up in the library alone at any possible chance, discovering different worlds in the pages of fiction novels. One morning, Izumi's mother woke him and his sisters with a tired smile. It became apparent that their father's absence was now permanent, though it felt no different from before. Suddenly deeply troubled by the fact that his father could be so heartless as to leave his family, Izumi seeked a coping mechanism. This he found in baseball. Almost instantly a star player due to his speed, strength and accuracy, the young aeronautica found solace between the sport and joining his mother in her cafe.
●●●●High school was a big leap for Izumi. He was playing on the regional baseball team while balancing his schoolwork, which was a hefty task for a student. The cafe snowballed in popularity, and immediately it became too much for the family to handle; the waitress whom they had employed shortly quit after being unable to deal with the frenzy, and even with three pairs of helping hands Izumi's mother struggled to keep it afloat. At times Izumi himself became very flustered and went out into the back garden to smell the flowers or write poetry, sometimes even song lyrics. There came a time when his mother fell ill and he considered giving up baseball to take over the cafe. At first he dismissed the idea, but after an anger-induced accident where he injured a teammate, he chose to resign. Izumi and his siblings worked the cafe with great efficiency and slowly nursed their mother back to health. Although his baseball dreams were shattered, his grades shot up and he sought a different kind of peace; in writing.
●●●●In Izumi's last year of high school, the Aokis were finally in luck. A tattered, tan envelope had been stuck in their mailbox - they opened it to find a small fortune from the childrens' father, who although confirmed that he would not be returning, sent his undeniable love in the form of a heartfelt letter and several thick wads of banknotes. Izumi also won multiple local song and story writing contests, choosing to spend his prize money on renovations and upgrades for the cafe. Grateful for her son, his mother stashed half of the money from their father into the bank, and gave Izumi the rest so he could go to his dream college in Tokyo. Since then, Izumi has established a small business of his own - "Live to work," he says - and is attending the University of Tokyo.
