Destiny lay there in the hospital bed, breathing slowly and weakly, drifing in and out of consciousness. The machines around her beeped ominously. Her parents stood at one side of the bed; a doctor at the other.
"I think we all know that Destiny's life is nearing a close. Is there anyone she would like to see now, any last business she needs to finish?"
Destiny suddenly spoke hoarsely, "Get Iris. Please."

A few minutes later, Iris was knocking on the door to the room. "Destiny! Did you need me? Are you... leaving?"
"I wanted to say... thank you."
"I understand. I'll stay here and wait until you go."
Destiny could already feel the darkness engulfing her. Strangely, it was peaceful.
"Goodbye, Iris... Mom... Dad..."
Everything went black.

Once Alistair had regained consciousness, and his eyes adjusted to what was happening around him, he’d noticed a subtle glow from in front of his snout.

“A flower,” he spoke to himself. “..Odd, for a flower to grow so beautifully in such a dark place.” His squinted gaze danced across the walls of what seemed, to him, like a cavern. As he went to stand, he found he could not. Roots had grown up around his legs. Restricted of movement.

With no memory of how he had gotten here, and nothing but a small, ominous flower to light the damp cave around him, he waited.

And that’s when he heard it. The growl. And a large, disfirgured shadow that lurked at the left side of the room, hovering above the ground.

Creeping closer.
Every step it made sent him spiralling deeper into a hole of anxiety and dread.
Closer.

not ready to finally take this guy down. After everything he'd done to her family...

Clad in all black, blue hair tied back in a messy bun, the female assassin prepared
her rifle with practiced hands. She popped her gum every so often, entering her
meditation phase to focus her mind. Her memories fueled her determination, and
she was ready to end all of this tonight. As usual, his parties were huge and lavish,
and it disgusted her; she settled into her nest as the other guests began to arrive,
all dolled up like royalty, waving at the gathering crowds of admirers. She scoffed,
but it didn't take long for a sleek black Escalade to pull up.

Suddenly the city was still and silent, as if life had hit a pause button. Her lungs
filled slowly with air, then released again. Her sights were trained on the dark SUV,
crosshairs waiting for her target to emerge. The adrenaline hit as she watched his
shined black shoe step out, and she prepared to pull the trigger...

Until a hand firmly grabbed her shoulder, and the assassin froze.

Kane, a boy with a flurry of emotions. A hurricane, as his mother would say. Numb and cold to the world and everyone around him, or so as people perceived him. His true nature he never showed, always uneasy at the thought of judgement or a scolding by his father.

Stoic and sophisticated, mannerly and curt. That’s what his father expected of him, wanted him to be, which meant an exact carbon copy. That’s not what Kane desired, wanted, nor strived for. A wildness inside was present, gnashing at the iron bars around his heart. It wanted to be free.

Seeing as this boy was a hurricane, a hurricane he would become. he broke from his restraints, the ones holding him back, and rushed forth in a flurry of rage as strong as the winds rushing off the seven seas and sadness as cold and damp as the heavy rains that poured into the mainland, with happiness as warm and soft as the aftermath and melancholy as deep and ingrained as the roots of the mountains and trees.

xxxxxxxxxxstill kept in touch. Her other children would talk to her, except for the fact that she
xxxxxxxxxxcouldn’t be bothered to invest in the new-fangled electronics that were common nowadays.
xxxxxxxxxxIt wasn’t just that she didn’t have the money - they’d offered to purchase her a phone
xxxxxxxxxxseveral times - no, in truth, she felt that understanding all the new technology was a feat
xxxxxxxxxxtoo great in her old age. The modern world was simply too fast for her, what with the
xxxxxxxxxxhigh-speed trains and the unfathomably vast internet. No, she was content to live in her
xxxxxxxxxxsmall home and tend to her chickens. Still, she missed the closeness she once shared with
xxxxxxxxxxher children. Fánróng stared quietly at her daughter’s careful handwriting, this simple
xxxxxxxxxxletter holding so much more meaning in these modern times.
