Incident Report 4520 — - Spinner Salvage ProjectAttached File — ARCH_916-1The Spinners originated from the ranks of commissioned doctors stationed in Spire 07, their influence spreading rapidly through the core mines due to their ability to treat common ailments among the miners. They believed in a pantheon of opposite and corresponding deities split between the heavens and the hearts: the bright, fresh air of the surface, and the heavy, dark dust of the earth. They envisioned the mines as great sutures that pulled both halves of divinity—survival and riches—together, and themselves as the cosmic surgeons that spun, stitched, and cared for the needle and thread.
Assessments found that the Spinner belief system was beneficial to morale. Their status as a religious organization and their continued operation was approved smoothly.
The Spinners refused to abandon their posts when the veins ran dry, and were subsequently sealed into the mines after days of failed negotiations. All are presumed lost.Attached File — ARCH_916-2Hospital S070 was the home base of the Spinners. It was a standard-issue hub facility, equipped to provide sophisticated medical care that the auxiliary stations couldn’t treat. H-S070 was suspended in the middle of the main shaft by a system of 40 cables. 18 additional cables were added later by the Spinners. It was moved several times as the mine expanded, descending to follow the course of activity in the spire.
The Spinners were notable for their practice of fashioning lamps out of discarded material. The largest lights were hung on the outer shell of H-S070, turning it into a beacon of light blazing in the main shaft. Smaller lamps were strung on loops of braided rope as votive charms and placed in operating rooms or carried by the miners.
In addition to hanging lamps, H-S070 was decorated elaborately with lengths of braided rope and sheer fabric in a multitude of hues. Similar adornments were observed on other Spinner hospital-chapels. Sample analysis of the fiber used in both the rope and cloth showed qualities consistent with kalon hair.
Investigation Log — -Objective: Survey and analysis of derelict Spire 07 Main Hospital, code H-S070, in preparation for the retrieval of useful materials.
4520.LOG.005Anchor 4: H-S070 confirmed at its last-known location, Anchor 4. No abnormalities detected.
[Comments]: It’s like a cocoon spun in silk. The cables, but especially the ropes—I know it’s hair, but the way they reflect the light… this place must have been beautiful with all the lanterns on.
4520.LOG.012Terminals have lost power, but the drives may be salvegable. All writing implements are missing. Trace amounts of hair on the walls and floor. No other observations of note.
4520.LOG.023The doors to the surgical wing have been propped open. Massive piles of pens, markers, and pencils scattered in the hall, all dry or broken. Walls are covered in writing. Transcript below.
