Silverstar had never been a big birdwatcher, as he believed that it was a waste of time, but whenever the lovebirds started appearing he would turn his gaze toward the ground with even more conviction. After all, as leader he had many other responsibilities, many things to distract him from the lovebirds’ presence. He didn’t need to ruminate on them, and the many old tales of love that came with their arrival. This Newleaf, however, the birds were much harder to ignore.
Wherever Silverstar went, it seemed as if this one bird was following him. It was always perched within his line of sight, and when he tried to ignore the bird it would squawk indignantly. He could tell it was always the same bird from the unusual freckles around its beak, and the way its eyes seemed to hold a level of understanding that Silverstar had never seen in any bird before.
He hated to admit it, but the bird did catch his eye. More than once, he caught himself gazing at the bird’s colourful plumage, and the elaborate dances it was performing in the treetops. For a second, he let himself imagine what it would be like to soar through the skies. Flying was probably quite fun, he thought. But then he shook himself. He didn’t have time for fun! Not when there were clanmates to feed.
Throughout the entire week Silverstar ignored the bird, despite the fact that it never strayed far. He managed to keep his head down and focus on his duties, even though he felt more and more distracted.
Finally, one night after the whole clan had gone to sleep, he couldn’t take it anymore. He saw the bird, perched on a nearby branch, and went right up to it. He stared at the bird, and the bird stared back. It was only then that he realized that the bird was alone, not in a pair like the other lovebirds always were. But before he could really ponder that thought, the bird flapped its wings and took off, flying right past Silverstar and into the trees behind him. Without thinking, Silverstar took off after it.
He followed the bird for what felt like hours, through the dense jungle foliage and along beautiful flowing streams. The way his legs and lungs burned from running felt rejuvenating, and he couldn’t contain the joy that bubbled up from somewhere deep inside him.
Finally, the bird swooped over a thick bush, and Silverstar stopped to catch his breath. He didn’t even know where he was anymore, but he figured that he had already gone this far, he might as well keep following the bird. He pushed through the bush, wincing as his fur snagged on various twigs.
When he reached the other side, he gasped. In front of him was a beautiful lagoon, its waters so clear and calm it looked like a piece of the night sky had fallen down. He had never seen this place before. Silverstar looked around for the bird, but it was nowhere in sight. Instead, there was a cat, someone he had never seen before, standing at the edge of the lagoon. The other cat looked over at Silverstar when he stepped closer to investigate.
“Beautiful, isn’t it?” the other cat asked with a smile.
“Who are you?” Silverstar asked back, glancing around in confusion.
“My name is Seabirdwhisp,” the stranger replied, “I’ve just returned here from someplace far away, and I figured I should check up on some of my favourite places.”
Silverstar found it hard to look away from the stranger’s face, finding himself drawn to the calm yet friendly aura the other cat gave off. He noticed that Seabirdwhisp had the same subtle freckles between his eyes that the bird did, the same understanding look.
Silverstar’s tail twitched as he approached the lagoon and sat down at the shore.
“Why did you bring me here?” he asked, before awkwardly adding, “not that I mind being here, I’m just… confused.”
Seabirdwhisp let out a small half-laugh and looked away, embarrassed.
“I just… thought that you might need a break,” he admitted, “it seemed like you were really overworking yourself.”
Silverstar sighed wearily. He couldn’t deny that what Seabirdwhisp said was right. He couldn’t remember the last time he had taken a break, too caught up in the stress of leadership. He was so new at the role, he just didn’t want to let anyone down! He suddenly felt overwhelmingly tired.
“I had a lot of fun running around tonight,” Silverstar finally admitted, resting his head on his front paws and gazing into the calm water in front of him.
Seabirdwhisp didn’t say anything in response, just flopping down contentedly beside Silverstar. The two of them stayed like that, enjoying the soft silence long into the early morning, just happy to have found a moment of respite together.

Some say they are the first sign of Newleaf, bright feathers flashing through bare branches. Others swear they’re sent by Starclan to bring hope and good fortune in times of sorrow.
They perch in pairs. Always pairs.
Where they gather, the forest seems to glow a bit brighter. Old grudges loosen. Shared patrols linger. Cats find themselves thinking twice before walking away, listening more attentively, staying just a little longer.
The elders say the lovebirds do not create bonds. They simply reveal them.
When the lovebirds are around, things feel different. Patrols run long. Cats sit closer together. Feelings that were easy to ignore suddenly are not.
Some say the lovebirds cause it. Others say they just make it harder to look away from what was already there.
Choose two cats and write their love story (the more like a kdrama the better!). Must be 150+ words to qualify.
Each completed entry will receive only one kit, mimicking how the songbirds only lay one egg per year.
If you choose to write with another player and tell the story together, each writing from one cat’s perspective, you will instead receive two kits, one for each of you! <3
Other SOTF artists are welcome to claim entries as well.
Entries for this will only be accepted until 14 Feb 2026.

Lovebirds, 2009 words i'm so sorry

Ospreyglide didn’t know what she was doing. Her sudden appointment as leader was jarring. Soon after, Vixenleap had asked to join the clan. All Ospreyglide had wanted to do was become the Apprentice Guide. Sure, that meant some responsibility over the younger members, but not guiding the whole clan! And falling in love? Sure, she’d thought about it. One day. Certainly not now when her life was so chaotic. Vixenleap herself brought chaos with her. There were the rumors that spread that Vixenleap had gotten kicked out of her last clan for murdering her last mate, and the fact that Vixenleap’s personality wasn’t every cat’s cup of tea. Vixenleap claimed that another she-cat had framed her for the untimely death of the tom she had been seeing in secret. Because he was cheating on said she-cat with Vixenleap. Ospreyglide believed her lie detector was solid. After all, she had been preparing to supervise apprentices who liked to exaggerate. She didn’t believe Vixenleap would be a threat to the rest of the clan. The rumors and distrust still spread. Ospreyglide suspected an apprentice had overheard them talking and told their friends. But Vixenleap took everything in stride. Ospreyglide watched her acclimate to life in the Canopy. She found out that Vixenleap had caused strife on her first hunting patrol, though the cat who reported it hadn’t heard exactly what happened, and the other cat had avoided giving her a straight answer. Vixenleap claimed she had made a joke that the other cat had taken as an insult rather than a teasing barb. Ospreyglide certainly thought that was true in Vixenleap’s mind. She felt herself becoming more and more intrigued by Vixenleap. She could tell that some other cats just didn’t get Vixenleap’s dry sarcasm. Or flirting. One time, Vixenleap caught her watching her and winked.
Later, she jumped up onto the railing next to Ospreyglide.
“Hey,” Ospreyglide meowed.
“Don’t you have other clanmates you should be paying attention to?” Vixenleap purred.
“Oh- well-“ Ospreyglide sputtered. Of course that wouldn’t escape Vixenleap’s notice.
Vixenleap’s eyes glittered with amusement. “Well? Cat got your tongue?”
“You’re so observant,” Ospreyglide blurted out.
“How astute.”
“I-I have to make sure my new clan mate is getting along well,” Ospreyglide said. “With others.”
“Uh huh.” Vixenleap gazed at her. “Don’t you think that’d be easier if you sent me on patrol with other cats?”
Right… Opreyglide had been doing patrols with her recently. “We work well together,” She said.
“Hmm.” Vixenleap murmured in agreement. “How well?”
“Um…” Ospreyglide’s face heated.
“Maybe we could try being more than friends?”
Honestly? There was a lot on Ospreyglide’s plate right now. And this was moving along quick. Maybe it wouldn’t work out. Or maybe it would. “We could try,” Ospreyglide agreed. “As long as you don’t…”
“What?”
“…get me involved in a murder plot.”
Vixenleap laughed.

The suns pale rays offered no warmth as Hollybreeze stalked through the tall frozen grass. She pressed herself low to the ground, keeping her tail still and paws soft. Her ears twitched at the persistent scratching of tiny claws on frozen earth. Tasting the air, her eyes narrowed as she determined where the soft brown body was. Wiggling her haunches for half a heart beat, she launched forward and dove into the patch of grass the unfortunate creature was hiding. A quick bite was all that was needed. The she-cat turned around proudly, a small field mouse in her jaws.
“Great catch!”
The boisterous compliment made her pop into the air in alarm, her tail fluffing out before she dropped her catch in a huff. “Snap!” She spat, glaring at the playful red tom as he grinned mischievously at her. “Yes?” The rogue drew out the word, beginning to pace around the molly. Hollybreeze suppressed a half hearted growl, glancing around to make sure none of her clanmates were nearby. She was suddenly very grateful she had split up with Paleflame and Torntail. “You dumb furball!” she hissed, twitching her tail in half hearted annoyance. “You’re not supposed to be here! How many times do I-” Snap brushed his tail over her mouth gently “So many times!” he let out a mrrp of amusement. “I just couldn’t wait to see you.. I’m sorry.” He tucked his head and rolled over onto his back, batting a paw at her gingerly.
Sighing in defeat, Hollybreeze flopped down beside him, allowing herself to soak up his warmth for a while. Without words, they settled beside each other and shared tongues. Hollybreeze still could not shake the anxiety that kept rising in her chest. It was threatening to crescendo into panic when Snap stood up, looking down at her with a warm smile. “It’s alright… I’ll go.” As the tom turned toward the border, it felt as if her heart would tear in two. “Snap!” She called, her voice tight with emotion. He turned back to her, his eyes clouding with worry. “Please stay.”
