Support. The only time the scroll bar is not a hinderence is on mobile. I think it should be optional, though, like a button you click if you want it and if not, it shows all the stages. I loke seeing the stages because I find it kinda cool.

100% full support of a drop down box or something that allows you to choose between full archives (how it is now), first and last stage, and final stage. This would make it much easier to sort and locate pets, as well as keeping one's wishlist up to date.

however, i just want to put my two cents out there, not sure if this has been mentioned yet. on a computer, i get around this problem of scrolling by clicking the mouse scroll wheel and sliding the cursor to the side. clicking the mouse scroll wheel allows you to scroll freely up/down or sideways. this makes it a million times easier, because i don't have to go down to the bar, i can just scroll in place.

I would definitely use a feature like this. I organize my pets in groups based on their year/moth in the archives. I spend a lot of time scrolling right-left when it would be much faster to scroll up-down. Your idea would be such a time saver.
