why: Ellie absolutely adores the tension inherent in a werewolf; the conflict between the wolf and not-wolf, the conflict between night and day, between supernatural and intense mortality. They love hearing stories of transformation in general, and the werewolf forms a popular archetype, although they do love other werecreatures. Their person also loves the song Werewolves of London, which may be part of where their fondness for the monster comes from!

Giant snakes with giant mouths and sharp fangs (and I think they're feathered)? Yes please, Basil says, because he likes snakes in general. Having a giant one you could ride around on? That's even better, as he's pretty sure he could get one to like him. In short, he likes it because it's a snake and its giant. It could protect him, and do his bidding.
