- someone asked how I get my lines to look the way they do, so I figured I'd answer here with an example 0:
I use the default oekaki pen settings, but I turn my sketches directly into lines. I don't draw lines on a separate layer - I spend a long time "refining" the sketch by erasing and drawing over it until it looks smooth.
I developed this way of drawing that preserves the sketches because I loved my sketches, but hated the lines I drew over them. we do this with pencil drawings anyway - we sketch and erase and darken to make clean lines. there is no separate "layer" unless we go in with a pen or something on top of it.
I remember a popular artist once said they don't even sketch and I thought it was blasphemy, but it made me think that maybe I wasn't drawing in a way that worked for me? I was drawing in the way everyone else told me was correct. I just assumed that was the only right way to draw. it really made me analyze what I was doing and totally changed my process.
you can see in this wip drawing that I've gone in to clean up the faces a little bit compared to the absolute mess of their dresses LOL. this is because I'm indecisive and will probably change poses or something as I go, but the faces and expressions hold more weight to me and need to look good early on.
