Already, there has been a dusting of snowflakes here and there, but there has been no true freeze just yet. The trees are all bare now, and leaf litter decomposes on the forest floor, giving better cover to small prey. Any wolves not yet on their way to their winter dens will need to begin the journey now to arrive by the first snowfall. Some wolves are beginning their courtships, and dispersal rates are the highest they will be all year.
