An Oxuph [ox-uff] is a small canine like creature, much resembling a wild dog, but has ivory tusks that
protect its small body from predators. They are generally about the size of an Ocelot [40-50 cm ; 18 – 44 lbs],
and remain that size throughout it's adulthood. They are warm-blooded mammals, like humans, and are quite
intelligent, and inquisitive. The 'tusks', or spines, as well as the plating that can be seen on its body are primarily
for protection, as Oxuphs are not fighters themselves. It is not uncommon for them to be quite shy and hide for
most of the day, and they can be found sleeping in trees, as well as caves, or cave-like structures. Their diet
mainly consists of fish, insects, tree rats, as well as berries and plants.

Due to their size, they are not an aggressive species, and are quite timid. They exhibit many curious behaviors,
and like to explore their surroundings. Oxuphs generally communicate through low growls, or bark-like noises,
as well as bat-like clicking. However, they are usually rather quiet, and don't feel the need to make noise unless
threatened, or defending themselves or their kits. As they can be seen in the day, they are primarily nocturnal
animals, and are more likely to be active during the night hours. Oxuphs tend to find a mate for life, and reside
with their mate rather than in a pack or in groups.

They are generally not bothered by humans or kept in captivity, as they cannot properly thrive in captivity due
to their curiosity, but there have been exceptions. Humans are quite mindful of the species, and vice-versa, the
Oxuphs generally forming bonds with humans they come across. There has never been reports of an attack or
likewise from an Oxuph, and likely never will be because of how timid and kind they tend to be.

It is believed that they have been around since medieval times, and their behavior represents that greatly. With
research, it is likely that they were like the pets we have today, or were scavengers, but it is unknown if this is
true for sure. However, their body and their tusks make it likely that this is true, or that they have existed for
    even longer.
