paz’s long ears perked up at the jingling of chimes, signaling that a visitor had arrived. “ah - welcome!” they said, putting on the best smile they could muster in an attempt to mask their nervousness. “have a seat,” paz motioned to the small cushion near the table. the guppy, adorned with wreaths of roses, did so, and spoke: “how much to have my fortune told?” “five dollars, please.” paz replied. the costumer reached into his wallet and produced a $5, and placed in on the table. “thank you,” paz muttered, “um, so, let’s begin. first, place your paws on the crystal ball, like this.” candice reached forward and gently rested his paws on the surface of the glass. paz nodded, "perfect. now..." they peered into the glowing orb, waiting for an image to appear - but it showed nothing but a bluish haze. candice glanced over at paz, seeming skeptical. "it doesn't appear to, uh...technical difficulties, i guess," paz smiled sheepishly. "b-but, um, i could try using my own psychic abilities to...predict your future," they looked up at candice with a hopeful look in their eyes. "hm," candice nodded. "but it had better work." paz blinked, relieved. "of course! so, tell me about yourself, ah, that is, your life currently," "well, i feel as though people don't recognize how beautiful i am," candice began, "for example, i entered a beauty contest recently, and..." "uh-huh...right..." paz pretended to listen as the other guppy rambled on. "so it sounds like..." they inhaled, hoping they wouldn't screw this up - "you're having trouble with...uh," they shifted in their seat, trying to remember what they had learned. "others...?" "well, that's a bit...vague," candice responded, "but, yes, i suppose. especially..." paz sighed as the rose-colored guppy continued complaining, but was glad that he didn't seem to mind their lack of experience. as time went on, paz figured they would use the time to study, and began reading up on psychic techniques. finally, candice remarked, "and that's all that's been troubling me lately. thank you again," paz looked up from their book. "oh! yes, of course," they replied. "you've been very helpful, not to mention incredibly insightful." the yellow guppy blinked. "uh, yeah! thank you. come again!" paz called as the guppy left the room, and exhaled. they looked back down at their book, intently studying the pages, hoping to absorb the information they had to offer.
