Second Chance Shelter is a bread rescue where you can come to find a new member of your family. We rescue and rehabilitate breads of all shapes and sizes so they may have the chance to be placed into a caring home. These two were found, sick and injured greatly in a back yard. Both were tied up to a wooden pole and had infected, gross eyes. The mutt's left eye was able to be saved but unfortunately the Lapponian Herder ended up being blind. These two boys have been through so much and just need to be loved.

How are they doing?: Ollie is have a rather hard time adjusting, his world just came crashing down, no colour but black invading his bright world, with his other senses heightening, his friend helps him understand and work around it. When the time comes to separate

How are they doing?:
He's...doing pretty well, surprisingly. He was very startled by not being able to see, all of a sudden, but having his friend there for awhile seems to have helped, at least while they were together. Yes, they were friends, of sorts. Jensen was just so nervous and easily startled by sudden touches and sounds, without his sight, but having another dog there, whom at least somewhat knew what he was going through was like, was enough to keep him calm, and slowly he began to grow used to it, and grow in confidence. Soon enough, he was responding well to touches and most sounds, and he even got adopted into a wonderful family.

How are they doing?:
Since he came to our kennel he has learned the layout quite well and now can go most places without hurting himself. But, if we take him to a new place we make sure that there is always someone with him who can help guide him. We know that he can move around by himself but we think that sometimes he pretends to need help just to get attention. When she does this we come and talk with her because who who wouldn't want to spend time with a sweet puppy like him? He gets around our kennel fairly well for a blind dog. He does occasinaly bump into things but we believe that he has created a sort of mental map of the kennel in his head so he very rarley gets into trouble. The staff here love him so we are always quick to come to him if he needs help or if she just wants to hang out. He does sometimes have trouble and the times when I feel especially bad for him are when the other dogs get to play something like frisbee with one of the staff and all he can do is sit and not even watch. That being said his hearing is exellent. He can hear his food dish being filled from the other pretty far away.
