I disagree actually, I believe not showing the dog has symbolism. I think it's meant to show how much the dog misses his master, although not having dressed the pet I wouldn't know.

Poor Puppy But very clever! Took me a while to figure out how you made the pet figure disappear XD
Maybe find and older object than a new clean ball I think would add to the effect
