Help us out!

Postby Nick » Sat Sep 15, 2012 2:23 pm

Help us test our new version of the Oekaki drawing tool by posting a chicken drawing in this forum!

We've created an updated version of the Oekaki which fixes some bugs and improves the size of the drawing area (especially on large displays). But we need your help to make sure that loading the new Oekaki and saving your drawing works correctly for you. So please give drawing in this forum a try (be sure not to spend too long before your first save, as we aren't sure that saving will work properly for everybody!) All drawings started here will use the new Oekaki drawing tool.

Please post here if you have troubles getting it to work.

If you are having troubles please visit this page to check which Java version you have, and let me know the details from it!

New/fixed in this version:
- If you rotate your drawing, it'll stay that way when you save it!
- Rotating the canvas now automatically snaps at 90 degree angles, so you won't have trouble getting it straight again.
- New loading screen which is especially useful when loading big editable drawings - you don't have to stare at a grey box wondering if it is working.
- It should now be possible to save a drawing if you're using a proxy to access the Internet (this is common in schools and businesses), previously this never worked.
- On some systems, the brush tool bars on the right never had any text drawn on them, that should be fixed now.
- The Oekaki now sizes itself to fit your monitor.
- Palettes are now much better organized on the screen and should overlap the drawing area much less. You can get them to auto-arrange by going to View -> Palettes -> Rearrange.
- Your drawing palette can now have as many entries as you like, and it is saved along with your drawing so it will be there next time you edit your drawing. You can even save it to your computer.

The page should refresh and display your environment within 10-20 sec.
If it is taking longer, your browser may not be using the latest Java or there is a problem with your installation.

it's taking longer, so i guess i will have to remove the outdated java and update it, huh?

That's weird, it should be working on that check page really.

Is the regular Oekaki currently working for you?

Can you go to Start -> Control Panel -> Java -> The advanced tab -> Tick "Show console" (near the top), click Apply -> Close and reopen your web browser, then try to draw in the new forum. You should get a little pop up window with a bunch of text in it. Please copy that log and paste it here. (Afterwards you can change the setting back to "Hide console" which is the default).

There should be a entry in the main Control Panel section for Java. If not, you might need to switch to "classic view" or "large icons view" first.
