When I see birches bend to left and right
Across the lines of straigher darker trees,
I like to think some boy's been swinging them.
...
I should prefer to have some boy bend them
As he went out and in to fetch the cows--
Some boy too far from town to learn baseball,
Whose only play was what he found himself,
Summer or winter, and could play alone.
One by one he subdued his father's trees
By riding them down over and over again
Until he took the stiffness out of them,
And not one but hung limp, not one was left
For him to conquer. He learned all there was
To learn about not launching out too soon
And so not carrying the tree away
Clear to the ground.
-excerpt from Birches by Robert Frost
This semester, I have begun to read some of Rober Frost's poems for school. I love his poems, they are so simple and not super fancy and hard to understand, so I deicded to do a series of pictures about them. Every week I will draw a picture of the poem that I read. So this is the first one, Birches. This one was what gave me the idea, it was such a pretty poem, that I just had to draw it. ANd that's what gave me the idea. I think I did better on the grass then I usually do, and I like the new (easier) way of doing leaves I discovered. Now I don't have to draw every individual leaf.
