huge agree and i could go on a tangent bc this is something that held back my creativity for a long time but tldr i think the concept of "if you enjoy a work of fiction that portrays [x] it means you unequivocally condone it" or even "a work of fiction can portray [x] but only in a specific way or else it reads as condoning it" is incredibly harmful to media literacy and a terribly reductive way of engaging with anything, really. no one is obligated to consume or enjoy dark/upsetting art but art in general is complex and nuanced and there should be room for it to exist! :P
