"Cloudpelt," Firestar called, effectively silencing the
clan. "Your clan has found you guilty." He looked around,
scanning the crowd of cats. His eyes landed on two
warriors, and he spoke with a growl. "Lilacpool and
Softclaw will see you to the border. If we see you on
our territory again, we'll shred you."

"What!?" Cherrypaw shouted, his tail bristling. "No,
Cloudpelt is innocent! You have to vote for me- I have
to see my sister again!" He started shaking, then
collapsed with a sob.

Misteye rushed over to the shaking apprentice and
nudged him with her muzzle. "Come on, Cherrypaw.
Grief has clouded your loyalties. Why don't you come
sleep in the medicine den for a bit?" As Cherrypaw
slowly stood up, Misteye wrapped her tail around him.

The poor apprentice looked so small, with his fur
hanging off his thin frame and his eyes sullen. His
pawsteps were unsure, and he leaned heavily on Misteye
as they walked together.

Firestar tore his eyes away from the two, looking back
to accused warrior. His mew held a new uncertainty to
it, wavering just enough to tell the clan he wasn't
confident in their choice. "Cloudpelt, please go."
He spoke, his voice low. The snowy warrior just nodded,
her eyes filled with sadness.

"Let's go," Lilacpool mumbled, leading Cloudpelt and
Softclaw to the bracken entrance. They lead Cloudpelt
to the windclan border, watching as she walked away
from the forest she had loved.

Cloudpelt wandered Windclan territory for hours before
stumbling across a patrol. She asked to join their
clan, and they welcomed her with open arms.

That night, Two squirrels were added to the fresh-kill pile by
an unknown cat. Along with the prey that had been
found that night, it was enough to give every cat a bite
of food. For the first time in what feels like forever,
everyone has eaten.

You banished another innocent cat, Thunderclan.

✽ Everything is going well... maybe you've finally exiled the killer! ✽

Several days had passed since the last incident, and the
clan was doing surprisingly well. With the constant
stress of possible murder gone, warriors had time to hunt
and patrol. The fresh-kill pile, while still very small,
was stocked well enough to keep everyone fed. Everything
seemed to be looking up for Thunderclan. Tigerclaw and
Cherryclaw were nearly ready to become warriors, and the
kits would be filling the empty apprentice den soon after.
Despite the horrible events that had shaken the entire
clan, life continued.

Firestar sat atop the highrock, thinking about this
happily. He had lost several lives to the cold and hunger,
but he wouldn't have to lose any more. His clan would
stay strong, and they would survive this awful leafbare.
Everything was going well. The murderer in Thunderclan
was gone.

Or that's what he thought.

Stretching and yawning, Firestar got up from his spot
at the head of his clan and started to walk towards the
bramble camp entrance. His newfound confidence in the future
of his clan made him excited, and he decided to use that
extra energy to hunt. The clan still needed food, after
all, even if they were better off than before.

Snow still covered the ground, but it was patchier than it
had been. The leader walked with his head held high, happy
to finally feel safe in his own territory. He headed
towards the owltree, figuring there might be some mice or
shrews to hunt there. When he got there, another cat was
already perched in the tree, staring at the ground below.
They didn't seem to be hunting, but rather thinking intently.

Firestar walked up to them slowly, not sure why a cat would
want to sit out in the cold like this. Everyone was either
in camp, or constantly moving to keep themselves warm. This
cat sat as still as a stone, though.

Firestar shrugged it off, not wanting to say anything for
fear of scaring off any prey that might be around. They
were probably reflecting on the state of things, just like
he had this morning. Or perhaps they're still recovering
from grief and came here to be alone...

Deciding to leave the other cat alone, he started to listen
for prey. Hearing something scuttle around beneath a tree
root, Firestar crouched low to the ground and stalked forward.
Careful to keep his stomach off of the ground, he got close
to the shrew before pouncing on it, killing it with a swift
bite. He dug a small hole in the snowy ground, dropped the
prey inside, and buried it.

Just before he could start searching for another creature,
he was slammed into the ground. Claws gripped onto his back
as the cat above him- the one that had been in the tree- bit
harshly into his throat. He shook the other cat off, facing
them as his vision started to go blurry. The murderous cat's
eyes were dull with guilt and sadness, but they went back to
attacking the leader nonetheless.

Firestar collapsed on the snow, his eyes dull with pain. As
he tried to cling onto his last lives, the murderer slashed
at his throat.


With Firestar dead, the murderer dug up the shrew the leader
had caught and carried it back to camp, the snow cleaning
any blood from their paws.

Cherrypaw awoke from a deep sleep, mumbling to himself. He sniffed at his sister's moss bed. It's not fair. I wanted to be exiled. If I had one vote more, I could have seen you by now. But for now I'm stuck with this moss. He sighed, feeling guilty. I promised Runningmoth I would stay strong. I need to pull through.

The medicine cat woke up early, for once. Her spirits had been slightly renewed from the lack of deaths amongst the camp. However, she still carried guilt for taking part in the exile of the innocent Runningmoth.

She glanced around the camp, taking note of Firestar's absence but not thinking much of it. She decided to see if Cherrypaw was awake. She had tried to be kinder to the apprentice recently as a sort of apology for starting the train that voted Runningmoth out. She peeked into the apprentice's den, not wanting to call his name in case he or Tigerpaw were still asleep.

Cherrypaw looked up from the moss, half embarrassed to see Misteye staring back at him. "Oh. Hi," he whispered. "You're up early." He stood up and took cautious, quiet steps when exiting the apprentice den, trying not to wake any of his peers up.
