it was not uncommon for the gatherer to leave the village and go out on her own for walks in the territory that was under the protective spells of the high priestess. while the village itself was a wonderful safe home for tama, sometimes it felt too busy or crowded, and she preferred the more open spaces of the woods and the sounds of animals to the chattering of humans. however, as she was walking this day near the border of where the unseen's land met up with the liones kingdom, she heard the familiar and dangerous high-pitched twittering of a fwooper. yet something about it was different - it was softer and quieter, like a younger chick, but it was also drawn-out as though it was mourning or something. it was not a sound that was familiar to tama, and so she followed it, no matter how dangerous it was to be too near a fwooper for long periods of time.

she paused only momentarily at the border line, realizing that somehow the magical bird had managed to cross through the magical border that should have kept it safe within the unseen's protective bubble. she knew what she was doing was dangerous for multiple reasons, but tama was not the type of person who was going to leave behind an animal in need, no matter what. despite being a wood elf, she had an almost unnatural ability to animals, and the way that she connected to them far surpassed empathy, almost as though she could truly feel the pain of an animal through the sound it made, and through the look in its eyes. tama tried to be as quiet as possible as she crossed into the liones kingdom's land, but she didn't slow down as the bird's chirping grew incessantly louder. she spotted the bright pink-purple creature huddled against a tree trunk, half-buried in fallen leaves; one of its wings was hanging limply at its side at an odd angle.

"hey there little one, its alright. i'm not going to hurt you. let me see, i can help." the elf spoke in a soft and low voice as to not frighten the bird, adding occasional chirping noises of her own in between the words to gain trust. tama got down on her knees before the bird, still cooing lightly to it, and it had just started to hobble towards her slowly, when there was a loud crunching sound from just a few feet to her left. she may not be a warrior, but she was fast, and in an instant she had the bird in her hands despite its high-pitched screeches of displeasure, causing tama to wince at the pain but she was determined to protect the fwooper, and she pulled it close to her chest, trying to sooth it while also protecting it. her teal blue eyes met a pair of light brown eyes, and she looked him over quickly to try and gather how much of a threat he was; it was a muscular man who looked about her age and perhaps was a few inches taller than she was, with pale minty-green hair who was wearing a dark intimidating coat that gave off clear military experience. his eyes were squinted however, likely from pain at the sharpness of the fwooper which was still screeching in her arms.

tama assumed that the man was sizing her up the same way that she was sizing him up, and so she was honestly quite surprised when he raised his hands in an act of surrender. "please, i mean no harm to you, or the creature in your arms. could you, get it to stop making that sound?" tama had to suppress a sarcastic laugh as she stood to her feet so that she felt a little more in control of the situation, and for a few moments ignored the man before her and focused on talking in the soothing voice that she was using earlier with the fwooper chick, which finally began to calm down and grow quiet in her arms, although its large eyes stared with a sharp expression at the man before them. "do you know where you are?" the man spoke again, his body language showing a bit more at ease now that the ear-piercing sound had stopped, and tama slowly nodded in response to him. "i've crossed the border, and for that i apologize. i heard the fwooper chick's cries and i couldn't leave it." her eyes were analyzing the man before her to see how he would take her words.

"it's alright, things happen. im velcar by the way; may i know your name? and what on earth is that bird, i have never seen something like that before in liones." there was a hint of curiosity in his voice, and although she was untrusting by nature, she also knew better than to provoke a potential attack. "i'm tama, and as you have guessed i'm sure, i'm from the unseen. and this is a fwooper chick; its wing is injured and thats why it was unable to come home, although i'm unsure how it managed to get through the protection spells in the first place. i'll have to bring it up to the high priestess when i return to my village, as its a safety concern..." the elf realized she was muttering about things that were not for an outsider or human to know, and her walls quickly went back up. "anyways, a fwooper is a magical bird, whose vibrant feathers are used for a variety of things if they fall out, however they can be very dangerous to be around. if this little guy were fully grown, his song could drive a listener to insanity, and so they are often only kept as pets by those capable of performing monthly silencing charms on them to keep everyone safe."

tama's body tensed up as the man slowly approached her, but he stopped for a moment, holding his hands out in front of him as he spoke again. "i told you before tama, i'm not going to hurt you. i'd just like to see this.. fwooper you said its called?, a bit more closely. i've never heard of them before, and it sounds fascinating. please, may i?" the wood elf was still wary but she eventually nodded, gently holding the small bird further away from her chest, so that as this velcar approached again, he could actually get a better look at it. her eyes widened as his hand reached out to touch it, but before her opened mouth could warn him against it, one of his fingers lightly stroked the bird under its chin, and much to the elf's shock, the little bird leaned into his touch. his light brown eyes glanced up, meeting tama's teal eyes that were still wide, and he gave her a small smirk. "surprised i didn't scare it? i know that a lot of the people in your village that have a strong dislike and distrust for humans like me, but i'm not a threat. i'm actually quite curious about all of this magic your people have, from the protection of your village to these strange animals i've never seen before. i would love to learn as much as you'd be willing to share with me, and i'd be more than happy to share any knowledge that i have which may interest you in return, so that way its a mutual thing.. what do you think?" his eyes had a hopeful glint that was almost kind, and as much as tama wanted to distrust him, there was also something that made her want to trust him. slowly, the elf nodded, although the suspicions in her eyes still held, they had softened a bit. "alright, but you probably can't pass into our territory with the spells in place, so we'll have to meet here somewhere. what works for you?" of course, at this point, tama had no idea that the man was a powered human, not a regular human, and so the magic would not keep him from crossing into the unseen like she believed. perhaps someday he would tell her of this, but for now, it was all about gaining trust.

Mod Notes: Perm note, I would like to see mostly; Demi-god, Fairy, Vampire, Human, Witch/Wizard, Angel, Demon, Kitsune, Shapeshifter, Werefolk, Animalkin. I have a soft spot for any animal based, or any listed above, but I would like any species to be able to join to give myself more plot ideas.
How many seeds am I allowed?

- Maxon had found a pair of friends while out scouting for Celeste. He learned that the pair were best friends, running to find a new life. The noble leader offered them a place within the ranks of the Tribe of Rushing Water. Jace was the more outgoing of the pair, chatting up a storm on the way back to the village. Maxon learned that Lilith was pregnant, as soon as they got back, he placed her into the role of caregiver. He would decide her permanent role after her child was born. Jace quickly took to Celeste, and became one of her scouts. Celeste appreciated having someone to take her role while she rested from an injury. Maxon also appreciated not having to take care of everything in the tribe for once.

-Cypris was overjoyed when she learned of Lilith's pregnancy. She could finally study something, and put it to use soon. A huge bonus for her was that no one as injured either. She began to research all she could to help when the time came for the child to be born.

It was mid-afternoon, and Myriam, on a break between two chores, had decided to go check up on Myreon and Tamara- she knew the testing session hadn't gone particularly well last time, and wanted to make sure things were running more smoothly today. She had no doubts Tamara and Myreon were both doing their best, but who knew, sometimes, two people just weren't able to communicate in a clear way, however hard they tried, and, as both village leader and mother of Myreon, it was her job to make sure thing ran smoothly.

Myriam approached the storehouse discreetly, not wanting to disturb them- she hadn't seen anybody out in the fields, so she knew the two of them had to be in there. As she came closer, she could hear Tamara talking. "Once we gathered everything up from the fields, we do the counting here, then report back to Myriam, telling her how much food we got, and whether any of the food was lost, due to weather events or pests. This helps her calculate what we'll need to have at all times- for winter, for summer, all types of scenarios. Did you get all that?" there was a pause, then a small "Mhm" from Myreon. Hearing it, Myriam frowned a little. Myreon didn't usually sound that quiet.

Myriam knocked on the door. There was some shuffling, a "Coming!" and Tamara opened the door. When she saw Myriam, a mix of happiness and worry flashed across her face. "Myriam, what brings you here? Is everything alright?" Myriam smiled, deciding not to comment on the less-than-happy expression she had noted. "I was here to ask you the same question! I just wanted to check in to make sure everything was going well." Tamara had a brief glance backwards, inside the room, and her hand mechanically went up to her head to scratch it absent-mindedly. "Ah, yes, well, it's not going badly per se, I just.. Don't feel like I'm good enough at teaching him about everything.. I'm probably going too fast or something.." Myriam tilted her head slightly. "I'm sure you're doing your best. Mind if I talk to Myreon? I think he's the best judge for that." Tamara nodded and stepped aside to let Myriam pass, though her eyes were cast down. Quietly, too quiet for Myriam to hear, she mumbled "Well sometimes I guess my best just isn't good enough."

Myriam entered the warm room, eyes taking a few seconds to get adjusted to the slightly darker lighting. She could tell that Tamara had been spending a lot of time here: the bags of seeds were all neatly organised on one side, the paperwork somehow wasn't strewn all over the desk (something Myriam struggled with constantly) and the tools were neatly arranged, by type and by size, on one wall of the room. Myreon was sitting at the center table, and perked up as soon as Myriam walked in. "Mom!" He smiled, though it was a far fetch from his usual wide grin. Myriam made her way to him, and he gripped her hand. "Is time to g-go home?" The little boy asked. Myriam shook her head. "Not yet, testing session should be ending in a couple hours. How has it been going?" Myreon did not answer straight away, though his hand tightened around Myriam's. "I not understand." he whispered. Myriam's heart tightened in worry, and she knelt down to be at his level. "What do you not understand?" Myreon shook his head a little. "All. It's.. Complicate. I understand g'owing plants. B-But counting and paper and- and- season infence..." As he spoke, Myreon's voice was quiet, sounding somewhere between sad, disappointed and helpless. Myriam longed to take him in her arms.

Tamara, across the room, watched the interaction with a growing sense of dread, of something terrible that was happening, or was about to happen. She had done her best for the child, every single time. She longed to be a great teacher, had wanted to help him understand everything, but she just felt so helpless every time he looked at her with confused eyes, and then she would panic and repeat what she'd said, except the panic made her speak faster, and Myreon, of course, wouldn't understand any better, and Tamara would give up on that one subject and move on to another, but the same problem happened again and again, and Myreon was unhappy, and oh god she'd made a kid cry and this was all her fault and why did she ever think she could help him, and maybe she should just disappear off the face of the earth and maybe this way she wouldn't hurt people or disappoint Myriam and maybe people would do all the better without her- "Tamara?" the voice was soft, just like the hand that was laid on her shoulder. The gatherer became aware of how tense her entire body was, and- how did this happen?- she was crouched at the door of the storeroom, arms wrapped around herself, shaking, shaking so much that it felt like the shaking would never ever stop, and she couldn't breathe properly, there was a weight on her chest that weighed down so so much. "Tamara, it's not your fault." but maybe it was, maybe she was a terrible teacher and should never be allowed to teach any other kids- no, not maybe but definitely. "Tama'a I love you still." and that voice was more quiet, that voice was higher, a child's voice, Myreon's voice. And suddenly the floodgates opened. There was nothing around her but dark panic, and the tears rolled down her cheeks and there was still that shaking and everything was one single jumble of fear and tears and shaking.

"Is Tama'a ok?" Myreon looked at his mother, wide eyes full of worry. The leader, still crouched by the gatherer, sighed. "I think she will be ok. But sometimes, when people are very stressed out, they panic and shut down like this. We need to give her some time, she will get through eventually. Can you go get some water and biscuits from home?" The child nodded and scurried off. Myriam, once he was gone, sat by the wall not far from Tamara. Despite how calm she had acted with Myreon, she did not know how to help Tamara. Panic attacks were a uniquely personal thing, and she had never talked with Tamara about them. She decided to not touch her, not wanting to invade her personal space. Instead... The only option Myriam could see was to talk.

"Tamara, I am so, so sorry that this was so hard on you. I should have predicted it- that this wasn't going to work. You are an amazing person, and it is absolutely not your fault. Myreon is not easy to teach. He understands things slower than the average child. You teach very well, and you have this energy, this quick-wittedness that make your classes interesting and fun. Myreon just can't follow- it is not your fault. I just wish we hadn't let things slide to such a level. I can only imagine how stressful this has been for you. Please, next time tell me about it. I don't want anybody to be in the state you are in. You are an amazing person, and I am so glad that you are by my side in the village's organisation. Just take care of yourself, alright? You'll get through this. Take deep breaths, you'll be fine." And maybe it was just Myriam's imagination, but it sounded like Tamara's breathing was getting a little less labored. Instinctively, Myriam reached out to touch Tamara's knee, and the woman immediately grabbed Myriam's hand and held it. "Don't leave please." Tamara whispered, ever so quietly. Myriam squeezed her hand. "I won't. I'll stay as long as you need me to."

A few minutes later, Myreon came back with the water and biscuits. Myriam, without letting go of Tamara's hand, set them down on the floor next to the two of them. "Thank you Myreon. Now, you can go play if you want, I think we'll stop for today." the young child nodded and went off again, though not without another backward glance. Myriam continued speaking softly to Tamara, unsure whether she could hear her, but hoping that it could help anyway.

The outside world slowly began to exist again. A friend's voice was there, a voice repeating that she was going to do alright, that this wasn't easy, but it would pass. That this friend wasn't going anywhere. And now Tamara wasn't shaking quite as much, and she could breathe properly. The tear tracks on her cheeks were beginning to dry. There was a warm hand holding hers, and it was there to remind her that she wasn't alone. One deep breath. And another. And the sounds became clearer. There was a shift in her perception, and Tamara came back to herself- her eyes were open, and she was staring down at her knees. The edge of the door dug uncomfortably into her back. It was Myriam who was next to her. Tamara shifted her position ever so slightly, and Myriam stopped talking, looking at her to see if there was anything she could do. "I'm ok." Tamara got out, and she was surprised at how raw her voice sounded. Must've been the crying. "That's good." Myriam replied gently. Tamara felt her shift, then a cookie came into her line of sight. "Would a biscuit make you feel better? Or some water?" Tamara, without speaking, moved her free hand to take the cookie gently. Her arms felt stiff.

A little while later, Tamara let go of Myriam's hand and reached for the water. The sweetness of the cookie felt comfortable. She took another bite, drank some water. She took a deep breath. "Thanks for staying with me." she mumbled. Myriam smiled. "Of course. I just hope you are doing better." After a second of thinking, Tamara nodded. "Yes, I am. I'm just... Really tired now." Myriam nodded. "Perfectly understandable. You have my absolute permission to go take a nap. Just whatever makes you feel better. I never intended for the training session to be such a stressful thing." Tamara shook her head. "No, it's my fault anyway, I guess I'm too much of a stressed-out person.." "Tamara, this isn't your fault!" Myriam sounded surprised. "You can't control your panic. We just have to try and make sure this doesn't happen again, but it's not your fault." Tamara smiled sadly. "I don't know anymore. I.. I just couldn't stop it."

Myriam pushed herself up and held out a hand to Tamara, who took it gladly and stood up after her. "Thanks." "Now, you need to get yourself some rest, please." Myriam insisted. Tamara gave a chuckle- a quiet one, but a chuckle nonetheless. "I will. Thank you, again." The gatherer looked around the room- she had already done today's essential tasks, a good thing that was, too. She felt much too drained to do any sort of work at the moment. "Well, have a good end of day, Myriam. See you tonight, or tomorrow maybe." And Tamara left the storehouse, a little hesitantly, but longing to be back in her room, sleeping. Yeah, a good sleep would do her good.

The patrol coming back to the village today was like any other patrol. Yes, this time there was indeed a new person amongst them, but that wasn't such a rare occurrence. A few times per month, somebody would be found on a patrol, and would then, more often than not, join the villagers. Today's person was a tall, light-skinned man with dark golden hair and clear, grey eyes. He stood straight and confidently, so much so that it hardly showed that he had never come here before. Myriam went to speak to him first, of course, as she always did with newcomers. His father had dilapidated the family's fortune at their mother's death, and Yiohan had been too late to stop him. His older brother had left to try making a fortune abroad, but had disappeared, never to be heard of again. Years later, the old father had died, leaving Yiohan to deal alone with a ruined mansion and enormous debts. He had sold whatever was left of his past to pay off the debts and had gone on the road to find his luck... Which hadn't been going particularly well until he had been found by the Cyrranian patrol. Yiohan spoke well, and his story dispelled any doubts Myriam may have had about this random newcomer. He was polite, well-mannered and gentle, hints of his high-status past. After showing him his room in the Commons buildings, Myriam let Yiohan settle in, informing him of the dinner that would be taking place in a few hours, as well as the Naming ceremony that would happen just before as well. Then, she left.

"Brother." Yiohan's tone of voice was now the polar opposite of what it had been like before- cold, calculating. A figure stepped out from behind the door and greeted him with the nod of a head. "Brother. It's nice to see you again." Yiohan rolled his eyes. "Oh, shut up, Xzavier. I hope you have a good reason for not having given news of you in ten years, and of hiding ever since I arrived here- and for leaving me stuck with that dirty, blabbering wench for so long. Explain yourself." Xzavier tutted. "No such insults here! These are my friends. This is where I've been living almost since I left our house- I lived in another village for a short while, but they really were too uncivilised and dirty, I ended up leaving. Now, this place has a lot of potential- there are mines just below the cliff, there are trees, game in the forest, fish in the lake. We have several, well-bred horses, a chance for some fine stock, and bright minds that have already created some incredible devices that make life easier and have great commercialisation potential. Big things can be done here, Yiohan." Xzavier had fully come into the room and closed the door behind him. "My views are a little... too grand for most people here. They would be fine staying stuck in a static place with barely any quality of life. There are a few people, however, that do see beyond that. I know you are one of these people, Yiohan, which is why I am extremely happy you have joined us here. There is.." Xzavier hesitated, head tilted slight to the left as he thought for a few seconds. "No, there are two favours I'd like to ask of you."

Yiohan's eyes narrowed. "What makes you think I'd want to help you? You abandoned me with father in a completely delirious state, gambling away our fortune. I dealt with the debts, the lawyers, the crooks. I lost everything then." "And that's precisely why you'll help me." Xzavier smiled, but it didn't reach his eyes. "Together, with a few... friends here, we can turn the tide. We can change this village to be the peak of industrialism. And then, you'll gain back everything you lost back then- everything we lost, and even more. Alone, you have no chance. I have connections, I have power here, soon even more, while you're just a newcomer, a random voyager found on patrol. If you chose to be against us, you'll lose everything again. If you join us, who knows how much you could gain?" For several long seconds, Yiohan didn't speak, lips moving slightly as his thoughts went from one argument to the other. At last- "I'll want to see who your friends are. But it is agreed." Xzavier acknowledged the agreement with a nod. He wasn't surprised at all. Yiohan continued. "Now, what was your second favour?"

At this, Xzavier kept pacing once more, seeming less at ease than before, which surprised Yiohan. The younger man kept quiet and waited for Xzavier to explain himself, however. "I am... Not sure if you will remember this as you had been very young back then, but, following an injury, as a young teen, I fell ill, having caught an infection. The infection was situated at a rather... problematic place, and since then, I am aware that I will never be able to have children of my own. Today, more than ever, this puts me in a difficult position, since I have become close to a certain woman and need to produce an heir." Xzavier was hesitating, then he shrugged and gave it away: "My request being: would you surrogate for me? You are closest genetically." Yiohan stayed stunned at this request- he had absolutely not anticipated it, not like that. There was no reason to refuse, Yiohan concluded as he thought about it, particularly as the knowledge of the future kid's true inheritance would provide him some amount of leverage against his brother should things turn sour. "With pleasure. I am certainly curious to see which kind of woman has caught your attention like this. Is she aware of your intended treachery?" Xzavier coiled back. "Treachery is a big word. I am only helping them. But to answer your question, she is aware of my goal, not of my means to reach it. But I know she will not mind- I have often enough heard her complain about the place's lack of quality of life. Don't get mistaken however- my interest in her is purely professional. I harbor no embarrassing feelings for her whatsoever." Xzavier made his way to the door. "Thank you for agreeing. I will tell you when I need you." And just like that, Xzavier left the room, leaving Yiohan alone with his thoughts of change and treachery.

In the Faelen's house: "Lyraaaa!" A voice far off: "Yeeees?" "Can you come to the living room please?" Laedrya called. The pitter-patter of naked feet reached the Faelen parents waiting, and a few seconds later, Lyra's face, framed by her ever-bushy black hair, appeared in the doorframe. "What is it?" she asked with a grin. Zaos waved her closer. "We had a question for you." As Lyra came to sit in the armchair opposite them, Zaos glanced at Laedrya. The two of them had discussed the way they would bring on the topic extensively, but he still hesitated. His wife, taking the hint, delivered the big news. "Lyra, how would you like to have a chance at becoming a dragonrider?" Lyra's eyes widened and she stared at her parents, unspeaking. Zaos jumped in before she got herself together. "We were told about this by Myriam. She is in contact with another village, one much bigger than Cyrrane. They have dragons, and one of them is going to have eggs soon. Since we are allies with them, they propose that we send over somebody from Cyrrane to try Impressing a dragon- which means they would be linked with the dragon forever. Accepting would mean, however, that you leave Cyrrane until your training there is complete. Are you willing to do that? You have time to think about it of course- you don't have to make a choice now."

Lyra did not speak yet, her eyes far-off. Flying on a dragon sounded amazing!... But leaving her parents behind, and her brothers, and Selina and Talyn?... She knew the stories: flying, soaring through the air, having a life-long partner to get you through thick and thin, never being alone... The choice seemed easy, the advantages most definitely outweighing the cons, but young Lyra's heart still ached at the thought of leaving her family behind. And there was only a chance that she'd get a dragon, too. What if she went and failed? That would be horrible.

With a snap, Lyra came back to reality. "I-I want to, but I don't really know yet- it sounds amazing, but also scary.. Would you come visit?" She asked quietly, looking at both her parents. Zaos reached out and grabbed her hand. "Of course we would. And Rhys and Arun could come see you too if you wanted." Lyra held his hand tightly and nodded. Excitement was swirling in her stomach, feeling like hundreds of tiny rabbits hopping about. There was only one answer, really, one her adventurer heart longed for her to speak. "I would like to go then!" Zaos and Laedrya looked at each other, both with a mix of happiness and melancholy. Their little, little child... Soon, she would leave on her own adventures, to a place where the two of them could not watch over her. Who had allowed her to grow up so fast? Since when was she not a tiny baby in their arms anymore?

A few days ago, Myriam had come to ask Almtrude if she would host the three dwarven teens' Naming ceremony. Almtrude had accepted with pride, and more than a little melancholy. Since her own Naming, she had not participated in any dwarven ceremonies, due to her having left her clan and mainly lived with other races ever since. She felt touched that Myriam had specifically asked her to host it- though of course, it made sense, Almtrude having a place of responsibility within the clan.

Almtrude reviewed the steps in her head. Myriam would take care of the kids' final assessment results- all four had passed with flying colors. Then, before everybody left to celebrate, Almtrude would come forward, reminding the villagers that dwarves received their last name at adulthood, at the age they joined the ranks of adults. Out of four people assessed today, three were dwarves. She would explain that, due to her role in Cyrrane and status as eldest dwarf, she had been given the honor of attributing the children their names, with, of course, the help of Myriam, the kids' mentors and their families. Almtrude paused on that. Should she really say that? Technically, only Jorveid's father had been consulted on the choice of name, as Gwinaelle and Yameldein did not have any family in Cyrrane. Maybe she should just skip that part.

And then, one by one, Almtrude would give the young ones their names, and explain why each of these was chosen. Her heart beat a little faster at the thought, and the dwarf grinned ruefully at the feeling, letting out a puff of smoke. Who knew that Almtrude, famed adventurer, who had seen the world and beyond, met countless fantastical creatures, tamed giant eagles and fought grizzlies bare-handed, would get nervous at the thought of hosting a ceremony? Affairs of the heart really weren't the same. Almtrude glanced at the water-clock on her wall- it was nearly time.

Jorveid shifted uncomfortable from foot to foot, mind whirling. The scouting assessment had gone well, or at least he thought so, but what if his mentor, Almtrude, had picked up on his hesitation when she'd asked what the tracks were made by? What if he'd gotten the age of the tracks wrong? And maybe, and maybe... Jorveid wasn't usually such a big worrier, but this assessment, and its success or fail, would impact his entire life.

The villagers were getting together slowly, at the village center. Four apprentices passing their assessments at the same time was a rare occasion, and even those not related to the apprentices hoped to see them pass- the village was still small enough for everybody to know each other, if only by sight. Jorveid, Fate, Gwinaelle and Yameldein stood at the front, straight as sticks, each of them obviously as worried as the others. Jorveid managed to catch Gwinaelle's eye, and the two of them grinned at each other briefly- Jorveid looked away fast, his cheeks reddening. As Myriam approached her usual place for announcements, a hush fell over the assembly. All thoughts not directly related to the passing or not of his assessment were immediately wiped from Jorveid's mind.

Myriam made a short speech, one Jorveid did not catch a lot of. The roar of his thoughts was too loud, though he did understand it was about the village growing, and how proud she was to be here. The speech wasn't long- Myriam knew that wasn't what the people, particularly the apprentices, were here for.

"And without further ado, it is with greatest pleasure that I announce that Fate, Gwinaelle, Yameldein and Jorveid have all successfully passed their assessments, and will be joining their respective trades as full members starting tomorrow: Fate and Yameldein as gatherers, Gwinaelle as hunter and Jorveid as scout. Congratulations, the four of you. I can't express how proud I am." Jorveid heard the announcement as if in a dream, and suddenly, ineffable joy filled him as realisation hit. He had passed! He was a full member of the village! And not only that, but everybody else had too! Caught up in the moment, Jorveid turned to Gwinaelle and hugged her. By the time he had realised what he'd done, Gwinaelle had hugged him back, and it was with a tomato-red face that Jorveid pulled away. Whoops. Now she probably knew. If she didn't before. Gwinaelle grinned back.

It was then that the newly-not-apprentices realised that somebody had replaced Myriam at the front of the crowd. Almtrude was a figure they all looked up to. She was a role model, a force of good and comfort, if only a little awe-inspiring and imposing. In that familiar movement, Almtrude let out a small puff of smoke from the same old pipe, expertly shaped in a perfect circle, before she looked around at the adolescents in front of her. "Yep, I would like to congratulate all of you as well, but there's one thing that needs to be done before all of ya go off and drink yerselves silly since yer all old enough now." The assembly laughed. "As some of you know, in contrary to the most races, dwarven children are not born with a given last name. That name, they earn it as they become adults. Jorveid, Yameldein and Gwinaelle, the three of you have clearly demonstrated that you are mature enough to join the ranks of the adults, and it is my responsibility as eldest dwarf of this village to bequeath you with your names. These have been carefully chosen with the help of Myriam, your respective mentors and the people who knew you best."

Gwinaelle and Yameldein looked at each other. The two sisters had joined several years ago, but since no dwarf had graduated since their arrival, they hadn't been sure whether they would eventually receive their names- it had been a subject of long, painful discussions between the two. Not receiving a name felt like missing a part of their identity. But they had also always known that in their old village, their names could never have truly represented them, not with the way they'd been unjustly seen by everybody there. The two girls smiled at each other. Now, everything could only go well.

"Jorveid, please step forward." Jorveid suddenly felt all alone- he had, not quite forgotten, but simply not thought about the naming ceremony. All his attention had been riveted at the assessment until now, the moment he was about to be given a name that would represent him forever on. "Ever since ye joined with yer dad and brother years ago, Jorveid, ye have shown great strength of mind and energy. Anything ye put yer mind to, ye can do. Ye have a quick temper, but are just as quick to forgive and forget, never holdin' a grudge longer than necessary. I know ye can go far, boy, very far. Never lose yer vigour, Jorveid Shortfury." Jorveid's eyes filled with tears of joy as he recognised the name as his own. "Thank you." he whispered, much too quietly for Almtrude to hear. His father, off to the side, watched with pride. That was his boy, his own little boy, all grown up now.

Almtrude turned to the second person. "Gwinaelle, I have only ever heard good about ye from yer mentor. Yer hunting skills impressed him: yer ever-attentive gaze is somethin' that has come up several times. Yer sharp look isn't confined te huntin' either. Ye can definitely pride yerself on bein' able to read the room, and ye notice many details that most people don't. That'll only help ye achieve whatever ye want to do, Gwinaelle Sharpgaze." Gwinaelle's hands shook just a little, and she gripped them together to stabilise them. This. This was a name to remember. This was a name she could be proud of, a name she was thankful for.

"Last but not least... Yameldein, ye can really boast about the fact yer the light in our days- yer dynamism will never cease te amaze me, and you seem te have a contagious positivity, one that can make the gloomiest day much more bearable. It really is a pleasure te be around ye. Keep shinin', Yameldein Lifejoy." The young woman looked up at Almtrude with a wide grin, eyes sparkling with pride and excitement, and maybe, were those a few tears? She seemed to hardly be able to contain her excitement and joy at having her name, and her little excited jumps made her curled hair bop up and down in a perfectly adorable way.

"Gwin, we have our names!! We made it!" Finally, Yam threw herself in her sister's arms, and the two hugged tightly. They had come a long way together.

Almtrude had somewhat predicted it- yes, the former apprentices did not hold back on the beer. Gwinaelle wasn't a fan, but Fate and Yameldein were having the time of their lives. The party went on several hours into the night, with dances and laughter, games and jokes. Jorveid and Gwinaelle spent most of the evening together, talking about this and that, about different adventures they'd had, complaining about how strict their former mentors had been (although, both knew it was mostly for the show, really. Both Almtrude and Aaron were amazing mentors). Jorveid couldn't really believe his luck- he was talking with Gwinaelle! And she seemed to enjoy the discussion!

Her soft golden eyes shone in the firelight, and Jorveid had never felt his heart beat as strongly as tonight. Gwinaelle leaned in, and their lips touched, for just a second, like in a dream... Just a little too real to really be just a dream.

Never elsewhere than in the shadowed protection of night did Tamara allow herself to let her defenses down and talk to Xzavier heart-to-heart, without hiding behind a wall of sarcasm and false disdain. Today, however, forcing herself not to raise the walls and distance herself from him was hard. "Xzavier, what you're asking- having a child with a stranger, somebody who only arrived today? I've seen the man's face once! And now you want me to just.. Ignore everything between us?" "On the contrary. We are doing this because we love each other dearly. It hurts me not to be able to do this for you, it really does. But there is no other choice if we want to experience the joys of parenthood. He will never again interfere between us two once it is done, I promise." Tamara sighed and leaned her head on his shoulder. "I know. And I'll accept... For us." In the darkness, Tamara couldn't see Xzavier's smile as she said this- it wasn't full of joy or relief, but instead malice and calculation. Everything was getting together.

Spring is here! During the spring, births will be smooth and the chances of mothers and children dying will drop dramatically. As animals return to their summer ranges and plants begin to bloom, your villagers will find more food and nomads who wander through their territory. The odds of sickness begin to drop.

the young hellhound and fox pair that were found by sycamore's patrol were given the all-clear by medea for their health, and they were released into the village to find villagers to bond with, wandering in and out of the people to find someone that intrigued them.

the black, gray, and orange fox walked up to one of the village's hunters, a soft-spoken gray faun who was chatting up with his crush, another faun who was a gatherer, and the young woman immediately leaned down to greet the friendly fox. ash was a bit more nervous about it, but he took his chance when aravis reached up to pull him down as well, and the fox immediately leaned into the gentle man's touch, chittering away eagerly. at the same time, the young red and black hellbound had spotted a small family of four who were enjoying a walk in the sun together, and for some reason, the creature was drawn to them; likely due to the fact that all four were demons. the father romeo was holding his daughter abere against his hip as their son brifrons toddle-walked holding the hand of his mother zuximi. the bond to romeo was almost instantaneous, but the hellhound found fun playing with the two young demons as well while their parents watched.

the baby dragon and the tebu were brought before medea next to be cleared health-wise, and were put in a nearby pen until they bonded with someone. the gatherer guirec who had been spending the last few months planting and tending to his garden of plants found himself drawn to the young tebu, as he had seen the way erin's tatiana had worked when she farmed, and so he hopped the fence and sat down with some vegetable snacks in an attempt to gain the bovine's trust. the surprise to everyone was the dragon, who nearly every villager was watching with baited breath as it refused to allow a single person near it to attempt to gain a bond. even guirec, whom it allowed closer to it than anyone else, still wasn't allowed to touch it. the villagers were nearly giving up hope in one of them being a bond, when one of their apprentices approached the small creature. she was a fairy, but due to a birth defect, she had been born without an arm, and many of the adults pitied her, although she was determined to break out of that mold. and so as she fluttered over, many villagers watched with wide eyes and bated breath, some even grabbing at their weapons in case the young fairy would need rescuing; but no such thing happened. it was almost as though the dragon could sense her difference and viewed it as a reason for her to need his protection, much like how he had protected the tebu calf, and almost immediately he pressed his forehead against her hand, signaling his acceptance.
