Smokestar's tail unfurled slightly and he waked through the territory. Bumblepaw had been apprenticed to Smokescreen, since Earthpetal was with kits. It was a risky time to be with kit, but as long as she stayed in camp, she would be alright. Besides, Smokescreen would only be training Bumblepaw for a moon, until Leopardsun and Tinyclaw got back, and he and possibly a new warrior, if they had any, would head out. Speaking of the Guard Watch, after the blizzard last moon, Barknut had gone out to check up on the guard, make sure they were healthy, he should be back soon. Smokestar quickened his pace. You might not think a volcanic island could get much snow, but it was surprising the amount they got.

Whisperstar stretched out her paws. It was once again time to get to the moonpool. Since Clearsight had returned, she had begun to feel much like her old self. But she wanted to know if Moonwatcher, the final cat she was unsure of, was still alive. She also wanted to hunt down Embertoes, and try to learn more about why he was not yet ready to join Starclan's hunting grounds.
Unknown to her, Whitefoot was planning on following her again, and this time, he was going to find out who this Embertoes fellow was, and stop him from making Whisperstar go crazy

Tradition of the Grasses
when the moon is full over Lunarclan's
territory, there is a swath of grass that
looks as though it is glowing. When a kit
is born, they will be given a tail band of
the grasses, apprentices will be lose the
tail band, and be given an anklet, warriors
will get anklets on both front paws, deputies
will have the two anklets, as well as a tailband,
medicine cats will have all front paws as well
as a tailband, medicine apprentices will have
two anklets and a tailband, and leaders will
get anklets on all four paws

Solarclan's Tradition:
When an apprentice becomes a warrior, they are presented with a gemstone that either correlates with their eye color, pelt color, or personality. For example, a fiery, energetic tom may receive a red jasper stone. Kits are taught to anticipate the day when they receive a gemstone, and to keep it safely tucked away within their nests. The leader watches the training sessions and goes on hunting and border patrols frequently to determine what stone the new warrior shall receive. When a warrior dies, their gemstone is placed on top of their grave, to forever be a testament to them. It is said that their spirit is tethered to that gem, and if it's lost, then their spirit is lost. If an apprentice or kit dies, then the leader will choose a gem based on what might've been.

Soulstar and Basileyes sat with one another in his den, the two had grown close and she understood him far better then most cats ever did. She also knew his frustrations for Nightstone. Troutleap and Runningsong were no more and Basileyes said that she felt that Troutleap liked Emberslash and Soulstar just rolled his eyes, his deputy needed to focus on more important things instead of running after love and breaking hearts here and there. Soulstar and Basileyes hadn't really told anyone the two were mates but he knew his sister knew, she knew everything about his blasted life now and he couldn't help but feel annoyed by this. "It is Blizzardpaw's naming day today." He spoke quietly and Basileyes smiled. "Sort of ironic isn't it? Blizzardpaw is having her name day when we are having a blizzard." Soulstar smirked a little, it fit too since Blizzardpaw was a force to be reckoned with. "Have any idea what her name?" Soulstar sat up and nodded, he knew what it was he was going to call her but he wasn't sharing.

Riverheart laughed a little as she sat with Boneleaf, the two were due around the same time which actually made Riverheart happy. She had gotten to know a knew cat who was now her friend and her kits would have other kits to play with. "I think Aspenswirl likes you." Riverheart looked over at the warrior who was coming into camp. "Really? He's an odd thing isn't he." Boneleaf nodded at Riverheart's words. "But he's sweet. He's also the Mort-Skinner for the clan cats so he does come a little odd."

Soulstar stood ontop of the rock in front of the clan, it was Blizzardpaw's naming day. "So today we gather here to celebrate Blizzardpaw," He never did the tradition way of naming a warrior, he prefer his own. "I have watched Blizzardpaw learn and grown into a fine a skilled hunter ad fighter. This is thanks to her mentor Quailfur, who has taught Blizzardpaw with everything she knows. So today, Blizzardpaw becomes Blizzardstrike. She will walk in silence to Carcass Ally and spend your night there. Be careful, be on guard. Not only is Starclan with you but so am I. Skullclan will be with you the whole way." The clan cheered for Blizzardstrike, who looked quite proud of this. The new warrior was soon walking out of camp with the rest of the clan following her. Singing as she went;

The clan sang this to Blizzard paw until she was out of site from the clan.

Nightstone motioned for Burntpath to follow her outside of camp, the two soon camp to a small den that was cover by trigs and leaves. "So I have been saving the deathberries and water hemlock for awhile now and I have decided to use it." Burnt path gave her a deep look and frowned for a second and then grinned a little. "So you're doing it?" the hulking tom sat down as she took out the two poisons plants. They were in a small skull and appeared to be crushed up. "Yes I am doing it and stop giving me that look Regnar." He shrugged with a small laugh. "I don't care what you do I just ask you go about it carefully." Nightstone laughed as he looked at the shell. "I've done this a thousand times. We must hurry before they are back from Blizzardstrike's leaving. I saw him take a piece of prey to the top of his den. He's clearly going to eat it later so I am going to put it in and on the carcass." Burntpath nodded as the two stood up. "What happens if Basileyes eats it?" Nightstone just grinned. "Then it will be a tragedy. Anyway you need to distract him if he comes before I am finished." Burntpath just nodded to her command. "You don't know how many lives he has yet though" She stopped for a moment. "Yeah I don't, so I better start hacking at them until he dies and doesn't come back from it."

The group of cats were coming back and Soulstar was starving as he hadn't had much to eat for a few days. "Oh Soulstar!" He turned to see Burntpath walking towards him. "Yes Burntpath?" The big black tom grinned as he approached the leader. "Have you seen Flintscreech?" Soulstar looked around and then looked back to Burntpath. "I actually think he's going on a patrol later today. Would you like to go?" Burntpath nodded at this ad smiled. "That would be great Soulstar."

Troutleap approached Soulstar once Burntpath left. "Well we will have lots of kits in a few moons." Soulstar looked at his deputy and nodded. "We certainly will, this is good for the clan. Hopefully this winter won't bring too much worry for us, now I am actually starving and as much as I would prefer to stay and chat I am afraid I can't." Troutleap knew their leader was rationing for the clan and so was Troutleap and he also actually planned to eat as well. "Well we can eat together. I will meet you in your den." Soulstar nodded as he started to walk away. "Don't be surprised if I started without you." Troutleap laughed a little as he ran towards the fresh kill pile to grab something.

Soulstar had just started eating the plump vole when Troutleap arrived. "So I was thinking that we could-" He stopped as he examined his leader. Soulstar started to cough quite violently. "Are you ok?" Soulstar couldn't speak and soon started to cough up blood. Troutleap rushed out of the den quickly as he knew the situation was clearly dire. "Ivythistle! Soulstar is choking!" Ivythistle was quick to come out of her den rushing Beetlepaw to hurry.

Soulstar felt extreme pain sweep through his body, he wasn't sure if he should continue coughing or scream. Foam started to drip out of his mouth when Ivythistle arrived. The Minute Ivythistle saw him she knew it was some sort of poison. “Beetlepaw run and get yarrow now.” Beetlepaw looked at Soulstar in shock as he gasped for air, “Now.” Troutleap yelled at Beetlepaw to hurry up and the medicine cat apprentice bolted off towards the den.

Although they didn’t get it in time as Soulstar’s gasping soon stopped and his body went limp. Ivythistle tried shoving the yarrow down his throat. “Oh come on!” She growled angrily as she knew it was too late. Beetlepaw cried softly. “I-I am sorry. I r-ran as fast a-as I could.” Troutleap glared at the apprentice. “It clearly wasn’t fast enough you sl-" Ivythistle cut Troutleap off with a glare. “You have no right to talk to my apprentice like that. Even if we were fast enough it wouldn’t of helped! This was deathberries mixed with something and they kill in minutes.” Beetlepaw sniffed and looked at his paws. “Let us go Beetlepaw, you did a fine job here today no need to cry. Soulstar will wake up soon.” As they walked out the clan was sitting nervously looking up at their leaders den. The two walked back towards the den in silence.

Basileyes looked at Troutleap as she entered the den, he explained what had happened and the she-cat frowned. “Who would of done this?” Troutleap looked at his leaders lifeless body. “I don’t know. But what he got was fresh so everything fresh we are getting rid off. Anything from the last two days.” Basileyes nodded in agreement.

Soulstar sat up with a jolt and it almost made Basileyes jump out of her skin. “ Urgh!” He growled as he looked around the den, he had heard Starclan in his short time gone and they told him that ‘every corner is filled with dangerous bites.’ I wasn’t sure if that was directed to him or his clan. He was angry, he knew he was poisoned and he had a hard time believing the vole was the one with the problem that caused it.

Duststar yawned awake the next day, rising to his paws and stretching his pelt. He wandered outside his Den and noticed Blossomdream crouched beside the Fresh-Kill pile eating the mouse he had caught the day before, "I'm going on a patrol!" He yowled to her. Darkstar streched and pushed herself up from her "den" in her "camp". Funny, she thought to herself, I call myself Darkstar, a leaders name, but where is the clan that I am to lead? With no deputy and medicine cat, no warriors or appretices she was practically a loner, yet she gave herself a leaders name. I wonder, she mused, if someday my clan will be the best clan in the whole forrest, then, but no clan was formed on an empty belly so I should probably get hunting.

brindlenose looked around the camp cautiously, her ears laying almost flat on her head. it had been a moon since she first joined blueclan, and a half-moon since she left the warriors den. she still wasn't used to all the cats, but decided to stick close to the tom called snowpaw. she didn't fully understand the difference between ranks, but didn't really care. snowpaw was her friend, and made her feel comfortable. as she was thinking of the tom, he bounded up to her, his eyes bright. "hey, hey brindlenose!
foxfoot took me training, and i learned some battle moves! wanna see 'em?" he chirped, and brindlenose nodded. "sure." she saw foxfoot come up from behind snowpaw and shrank back a bit, feeling his amber eyes on her. her fur bristled despite herself, and she licked her chest to try and cover it up. foxfoot seemed to notice though, but didn't say anything. he turned to snowpaw and mewed, "don't tire yourself out, snowpaw." he leaned into snowpaws ear and whispered something, and snowpaw nodded. foxfoot then walked away, into what brindlenose assumed was the nursery.
"he goes in there a lot." she said softly, watching as tawnystar and foxfoot then exited the nursery with the four kits, squealing and playing. snowpaw nodded and said, "yeah. those are his kits." brindlenose blinked once in surprise and looked at snowpaw sideways. he just nodded, and brindlenose flicked her ear. "you were going to show me the moves you learned?" she asked, and snowpaw brightened. "yeah! come on, i'll show ya."
brindlenose just followed him into the middle of the camp and sat down, her whiskers twitching in amusement. snowpaw was a bit of a brat, but he reminded her of her younger brother. he demonstrated some of his new moves, and brindlenose voiced her encouragement. it seemed like the whole clan was watching him, all of them giving snowpaw compliments. even the seemingly miserable medicine cat, mallowpool, was enjoying it. brindlenose watched everyone, and she realized all at once, this was why they all stayed. they were like a big family. snowpaw finished, panting and out of breath, and all at once the cats cheered for him. "good job there champ!" the grey tom called stonefur said cheerfully. brindlenose watched them all with curiosity, tilting her head. she walked over to snowpaw and gave him a playful nudge. "you did wonderfully." brindlenose said quietly, and snowpaws ears perked up. he purred and licked her nose. "thanks brindlenose." she nodded and backed away, finding a warm stone and laying on it. she closed her eyes and started to daydream, only to hear foxfoot's deep voice. "hey brindlenose. how are you settling in?" brindlenose jumped up to her paws and nodded. "y-y-yeah. i-its nice here." she stammered, her tail drawing in closer to her body. foxfoot sat down next to her and nodded.
"good. i noticed you're getting closer to snowpaw." he said gently, turning his head to watch the white apprentice. brindlenose nodded and sighed, "m-mhm, he reminds me of my b-brother." foxfoot nodded and turned back around to face her, his tone gentle. "i noticed you seem anxious. have you ever been in a group this big?" she shook her head. "yeah, i thought so. if you go to mallowpool, you can get some herbs for it, at least until you settle down." brindlenose's eyes widened. "really? d-do you think that might help?" foxfoot nodded and licked her ear. "yeah, i do. gingerstorm and i used to be a part of a group of loners. i was anxious to be there too. but after a little, i got used to it. and with some herbs at first, i eventually got comfortable with it. go see him, he'll help you." brindlenose got up to her paws and nodded at him. "thank you, foxfoot." she turned and started walking to the medicine cat's den. "u-um, m-mallowpool?" she saw an irritable lash of a tail in the back of the den.
"yes, yes, i'm here. lay down on the moss and i'll be with you in a moment." mallowpool said, his tone tired and upset. brindlenose flinched back but nodded, sniffing the moss before laying on it. she heard a rustling from besides the herb storage and lifted her head, only to meet silverkits blue eyes. "you need thyme. thyme is used for anxiety and to calm cats in shock." brindlenose squeaked in surprise and scrambled backwards, making mallowpool rush to them. he skidded to a halt and leaned down, asking, "silverkit. how did you know that?" silverkit just blinked and turned back around, pointing her nose to each of the herbs. "that one is called tansy. it makes throats feel better. those are poppy seeds. they put cats to sleep." she turned to mallowpool and her eyes seemed to glow. "i can tell you the names of every single herb you have and who needs what herbs." she shrugged and then turned to brindlenose, who was watching in shock. "i hope you feel better. bye!" she walked out of the medicine den back to the nursery, and mallowpool was staring back after her. "dear starclan...why do you hate me?" he whispered, agonized, and brindlenose felt her pelt prickle. "u-um, maybe you could use the thyme more than me. i-i should go.
bye!" she scrambled to her paws and raced out of the nursery, dimly aware of mallowpool hanging his head behind her. she walked over to foxfoot and asked nervously, "c-can i do something? something weird just happened. that kit of yours is gonna be a medicine cat. i don't know w-why i'm rambling and i-i'm just going to go. b-bye!" foxfoot just stared after her as she raced out of camp. he shook his head and walked near the nursery, then heard raised voices.
"she can't be my apprentice! i won't allow it! i would be with her every day. forever. i won't!" "if she really is that gifted, it's not your choice! it's starclans! i am your leader, and silverkit will be your apprentice when she is six moons! that's the end of this, now get out!" mallowpool stomped out of the nursery, unaware that foxfoot had been listening in. foxfoot cleared his throat and moved away from the nursery, keeping his eyes on his paws. "um, anyways. stonefur, thrushwhisker, gingerstorm, go hunting. brindlenose went patrolling, and snowpaw, you're with me. let's go." gingerstorm sent foxfoot a glare. "another hunting trip with the mousebrain? really?" she hissed, her tail lashing. thrushwhisker chuckled and nudged her playfully. "he's not too bad, come on ginger. he did catch that mouse, right?" gingerstorm narrowed her eyes and eyed the other molly suspiciously. "you better not actually like him!" thrushwhiskers eyes widened in surprise and then her ears went back. "and why shouldn't i?" she asked hotly back, her fur starting to bristle. gingerstorms ears went back and she snarled, "because i like you!" foxfoots eyes widened and he cleared his throat. "um." neither mollies paid attention to him. "you...you do?" thrushwhisker asked quietly, licking her chest self-consciously. gingerstorm purred, licking thrushwhiskers ear affectionately. "of course i do. so...will you be my mate?" thrushwhisker purred and nuzzled into gingerstorms fur. "of course i will, mousebrain. now let's go." they walked out of camp, and stonefur cleared his throat. "do i really have to go with those two lovebirds?
i'm going to be the third wheel!" foxfoot chuckled at his whining tone. "yes, you do. now go." stonefur huffed but followed them out of camp, and foxfoot shook his head. he turned to snowpaw and said, "what a day, am i right? now, let's go train." snowpaw nodded, and they left the camp.

Tonight was the longest of the year. The ground was white, and the clan was getting thinner once more. The days got shorter and shorter, and the cats were missing the sunshine. The despair of leaf-bare was starting to get to them all. All except for Talonkit and Echokit, who on wobbly legs, thought snow was fantastic.

Soaringstar had an idea, one he'd had for a long time. He started without telling anyone what he was doing. Several cats gathered round curiously to see what he was doing. Ravinepath particularly kept asking questions, but Featherwhisker shushed him. They collectively gasped in awe as he finished.

Soaringstar grinned widely. Silkpaw, Ravinepath and Luckypaw's jaws hung open. Their leader had created a small fire. Featherwhisker sat quietly down at the leader's side, softly pressing up against his side. "I always wondered why you chose the name Blazeclan. I guess now I know." She said softly, gazing into the small flame.

Soon enough, the entire clan was gathered round, and it wasn't even moonhigh. Soaringstar gazed up at the cold night sky. He cleared his throat and began his speech, "Tonight Blazeclan recognizes its roots. I welcome you, my friends, to our Celebration of the Moon. On the longest night of the year, we become family. We'll tell our stories and truely begin to know each other. For now, I pass you off to Poppythorn, who I believe has something important to say." Soaringstar bowed his head and turned his green gaze to his foster sister. The medicine cat took a step forward and addressed the crowd. "As a child I lived in a park, a lovely green space within a town. A common belief was that dead cats don't disappear. Though they keave their pelt on the earth, their spirit is set loose to wander. However, if a loved one could somehow discover or create a fire, by burning a talisman representing the deceased, the wayward spirit will rise with the embers to take spot among the stars." Poppythorn's eyes began to tear up. "I've been saving this for awhile." She whispered, taking a dried buttercup from between her paws and gingerly dropping it into the flames. It sizzled and popped. The ginger and white she-cat watched the embers rise, fully crying. "Goodbye Walter. It's about time you left this life behind." She called softly, and Gorsewing placed her tail on her friend's shoulder, comforting her without words.

Flaxenheart jumped up and ran to the edge of the clearing, watched curiously by those sitting around her. Returning with four dried maple leaves, she too dropped them directly into the miniature blaze. "Have a safe trip to Starclan." She whispered, thinking back to the parents and brothers that she lost. "Russel, Luke, don't drive Mom and Dad too crazy." She got a sympathetic look from Velvetcoat, and even one from Ravinepath. Who might possibly pity his rival, who flatly refused to acknowledge him while revealing her feelings.

The last cat to say their farewells was Forestpaw, the clan's newest member. He came with two rabbit whiskers. "I'm going to miss you Queenie." He said to the fire. The clan had found Forestpaw just a few days ago. Later that same day, a patrol had been sent out in search of his mother. Unfortunately, when they found her she was dead. The pair had a run in with the same badger that Blazeclan chased off the day before. While they managed to flee, the aging Queenie was injured. She didn't fare as well as Velvetcoat, and after several weeks with no training in medicine, an infection set in. By the time Forestpaw had found help, it was too late for her. Young Forestpaw received sympathetic looks from every cat in the clan. Acting very calm for such a young cat, he was the first to tell his story. Though it had no clear narrative, he unraveled his life to the clan. He told them about the funny and sad times he and Queenie had lived through. The time he was stuck in a pit for two days, and the one when Queenie had pushed through a bush once and come out the other side covered with burrs head to toe.

Without any encouragement from Soaringstar, Blazeclan was up all night long, telling tales and growing closer as a family. The apprentices were shown how to keep the flame burning, and it warmed everyone into the long cold night. Stormshadow put the kits to sleep, and several other cats dropped off as well. Ravinepath and Velvetcoat slumped onto each other when they couldn't keep their eyes open any longer. Near dawn, Featherwhisker nudged Soaringstar and took several steps from the fire. Falconswoop met eyes with the ginger tom, and gave him a rare, slight smile of permission. Soaringstar grinned back at his friend and went to join Featherwhisker, no one else noticing as Palesparrow spun a tall tale.

"Is there something you wanted to talk about?" Soaringstar asked. The simple closeness to Featherwhisker made him happy, though she seemed a bit nervous, "That depends." She said shyly, "On what?" He asked. "On whether you love me." Her anxiety was gone, replaced by the strong she-cat who searched the leader's green eyes openly for the absolute truth. Luckily for her, Soaringstar has always been a terrible liar. "I do love you." His eyes sparkled, "In fact, there's something I wanted to ask you." "Oh, now what is that?" She asked playfully, but she knew. She'd set him up to ask. "Featherwhisker? Will you be my mate. From now until eternity, I swear to love you." The traditional words Soaringstar knew, and exactly the ones Featherwhisker wanted to hear. The two entwined their tails, "Always."

Powderstar had taken her new deputy back to the camp. She had picked it out as an ideal place to stay, although it did need some work. The 'dens' were only spots on the ground that she had chosen. They would be sleeping under the stars that night, unless a miracle was worked during the short daytime. They could at least get moss beds, she hoped. She had a grand idea for the camp. She could see in her head where the nursery would be, and how it would be protected. It would have a small entrance, and on top of that, be slightly hidden. She would wall off the crevice in the rock for a leader to sleep in. But they were just in an open clearing.

She could tell that Troutgrass wasn't exactly impressed by the state of her camp, although he seemed to see its potential.

"Huh," said Troutgrass, gazing around thoughtfully. His green eyes stood out against the black stripes and orange-ish colors of his fur.

"What is it?" Powderstar asked. She was a bit distracted, planning the layout of the camp and other things.

"It's nothing," replied Troutgrass. "I expected it to be more, well, complete. I don't know why, since on our trip here you told me that you're the only member of a clan that started basically a sun or two ago." He looked at the leader, smiling. "What do we do first, my leader?"

She smiled at him, feeling a strange happiness. "I say we hunt. The fresh-kill pile won't fill itself!" She felt like running and jumping around, like the kit she once was. She didn't know why she was this chipper. She had no reason to be, after all. Sure, she was happy to have company and a new clan, but it didn't make sense for her to be that happy, after all she had lost.

They had gone to the largest river, which Powderstar had begun calling Lisianthus River. Though her new clan was called Stemclan, she would never shake off her loyalty to and love of flowers. The snow was thick on the ground, and the river was frozen. She carefully smashed through the thin ice, revealing the cold river below. "Careful," warned Powderstar. "Spend too long in that, and you could freeze your paw off!"
