rhea saw everything. she saw stars. she saw her friends.
…she saw them screaming.

her lapis eyes widened in terror. those screams would haunt her, she was sure of it. vision after vision flashed through her head, playing out right in front of her eyes.

a storm. a broken clan. the moon disappearing. comets and meteorites, falling upon them. the void taking over while the gods fought.
the sunne.

no. it couldn’t be. no cat saw the sunne.
and in a heartbeat, it was over.

….not again. this was the third time this happened this week.
and that was only this week….not counting the weeks before.
rhea sighed and made her way back to the clan with a headache.

what if she went blind because of these visions?
that would be horrifying, and they’d probably still flash in her head to haunt her.

oh, well.

Prompt: The image that Silver Fin was shown was fairly simple; the “what do you call a fish no eyes? A fsh!” joke overlaid in impact font on a picture of an eel. Safe to say, Silver Fin was far from amused, and began a quick lecture on why the joke was not, in fact, a work of comedic genius and was, instead, lackluster and repetitive. The cat who told the joke was equally as unamused by the explanation as Silver Fin had been with the original joke.

Ah, Olive Branch was once an average cat. Unfortunately, her luck leads her into situations - specifically, an occurrence that happened several moons ago. It was like a shadow, she said - a spirit rising from the ocean during one of her usual beach walks, weighed heavy by algae and seaweed with a complex driftwood mask over its face. Spirits were not all that uncommon, especially as of recent, but this one… was different. Far from the typical ghosts that wandered the outskirts of the marsh. Nonetheless, Olive Branch approached, swishing her tail with a friendly energy. The spirit looked up, dark eyes locked on her, before stumbling itself closer, long legs struggling with the weight of their mantle. Minding her distrust, the mysterious creature began to attempt speaking. She sat and listened. The rains began to fall; the mask slipped off the creature’s face with a soft crunch in the wet sand.

Olive Branch won’t tell anyone why she no longer returns to the beach.

In the winter months, it's more common to find moss in the Sonoran Desert due to higher amounts of shade. Alternatively, moss can be found during the monsoon season, but it takes forever for the moss to dry out. So instead of using moss, Kolby often has both quail and roadrunner feathers lining his nest.

Out of the corner of her eye, Ruby sees... a scorpion on the ground, crawling towards her. She's deathly afraid of scorpions, but she won't let anyone know. In fact, she's frozen in place. Her blue eyes stay settled on the scorpion's shape. Yet her muscles won't budge an inch. Silently, she prays to the spirits above to either save her or strike down this scorpion where it stands.

Just as it's about to reach her left paw, Fresia uses one claw to pin it in place and sever its body in half before the stinger can react. "Wow, Ruby! You were just gonna let that thing crawl on you? Can't imagine," the blue she-cat purrs with a mrrrow of amusement. Finally, the orange she-cat relaxes and practically collapses in the sand. "Oh, thank the spirits!" she whispers.

Two children born, one of life and of death
A father and mother await on bated breath.
Their eyes watch in horror, life seems to be amiss
Yet with time they find, the soul will persist.

As daughters they raise, both as their own
With stories that shall remain unknown.
One shall fall upon a mother’s grace,
While one will yearn for their own place.

Yearn they will, love they seek,
A daughter shall remain unique
Her light aglow, a bright morning
Yet this light may be a warning
Of a future much unclear
Danger seeks, threats are near.

As daughters age a truth is revealed,
A history of exile has been concealed.
The morning sun learns of the faults
Of the glorious ones she exalts.

With truth comes pain, a vengeance remains
The burning fire will melt these chains
History rewrites, rules reset
Mistakes of old drenched with regret.

Now but one daughter may live
Will she learn to forgive?
For if she holds to the bitter cold
Her future may never unfold

With much that passed her mind lay swirled
Yet continue on she must to this brave new world
