- Acacius sat gracefully on a the edge of crumbling crest of a tall hill, spiked tail swaying gently behind him, a light wind whipping around him. The light was blinding from the sky above, stars shining particularly bright, almost as if they were glowing just for him. The dark lion sighed gently, mane swaying with the movement of his head and shoulders that rose and fell. Being gifted with a pride's mane, he had taken his job as a role of patroller very seriously but never could have foreseen that all the time spent isolated, travelling through caves had given him the ability to learn more about himself and his connection with the darkness. For most of his young life, he feared what he could control, or more correctly, what he believed he couldn't control. Had he been given a different elemental gift he wasn't sure whether he would be on the same path he is on now, but was glad that this was the path that the universe had set him on. Shining royal purple eyes spotted movement below him but there was no haste in Acacius' movement as he lowered his head. In the darkness, the patroller male would have been able to see his surroundings perfectly but the strange bright glow from the sky made identifying the fellow lion a little harder. Slowly rising his large figure, he watched the figure come closer. They had no haste in their pace strolling up the tall incline, their mane thick around their neck, same as Acacius, and scattered tan markings on their long body bright against their dark coat. Corvus the darkness elemental exhaled, relieved. If ever Acacius considered someone a brother, it would be Corvus. The lion was calm, mature and operated at a similar level of energy as Acacius, thankfully. Stretching his front legs out in front of him, the darkness elemental cast his eyes skyward one more time, studying the stars before journeying down the hill to meet his patrol partner. His day was about to begin.
Acacius gave the dark maned male a small smile in greeting, which was replied with a simple, 'hello' from Corvus. "This way then," Acacius spoke up after a moment of silence and walked past the lion towards a series of dark caves that lay hidden in the shadows of the tall hill. "These caves haven't been explored yet, so I believe that this should be a good start," Acacius spoke in his usual gentle tone, holding in a small chuckle as the memory of their first meeting, running away from very aggressive Amani resurfaced. He stopped in front of a cave entry, the wind howling around in the dark space and Acacius' heartbeat flickering in his chest for a moment. Corvus' presence behind him reassured him, and after taking a deep breath Acacius stepped into the shadows. Darkness enveloped them, seemed to the cling to their fur, slowing their movements to a crawl. Corvus wasn't a chatty creature, so they walked in silence through the freezing cave and Acacius noted that it was beginning to curve downwards. "Is that breathing?" Corvus spoke up and the white maned male's ears pricked up and held his breath. It was faint but definitely there, a gentle movement of air filling large lungs before being slowly exhaled. It sounded big. The pair inched forward but Acacius whispered for his patrol partner to stop as his sharp eyes noticed a sharp drop in the path, leading only to a hole of swirling darkness. "Stay there," he whispered to Corvus before stalking forward. His heart raced in his chest, every part of his brain yelling at him to flee, to find somewhere safe to hide but the want to keep Corvus safe pushed him forward. His royal purple eyes peered over the edge and all the breath escaped him. Deep in this hole was an extremely large Auracoatl, It was curled tightly around itself, its head resting on top of its curled body with a very impressive crown of icy blue feathers. As his eyes adjusted, Acacius noticed the thick layer of ice around the creature as it slept." What do you see?" Corvus whispered, the silence making the male suspicious that Acacius could see a serious threat in the darkness. Lowering himself to the ground Acacius began to inch himself backwards but a stone tumbled from its place on the ledge and fell down the hole to land perfectly on the Auracoatl's head. The creature snorted and raised its head, looking straight at Acacius. The lion sprung up and ran back to Corvus, "RUN!"
