___Each Lucky Kit displayed in the Archive will include a list of coat specifics that gives a slight insight into their genetic makeup. The coat specifics will be listed beneath the code of each Kit, so remember that when you are reading a certain list of coat specifics that it is for the Kit right above the list. The following information will go into further detail about each part of the coat specifics list, detailing as much as the owner knows and understands of cat genetics.

BASE COAT

___There are two base coat colors, with additional specialized base coats. The two basic coat colors are Black and Red. The specialized coats are known as Chocolate, Cinnamon, Tortoiseshell, Chocolate Tortoiseshell, and Cinnamon Tortoiseshell. Chocolate and Cinnamon are basically just reduced pigment density of Black, while the Tortoiseshell coats include both Black and Red in one coat with differing densities.

DILUTION

___Dilution is basically a change in the density of a coat color, causing it to be lighter. If a Lucky Kit does not have a diluted coat, they will be listed as Non-Dilute meaning they are not diluted at all, or as Non-Dilute, Dilute Carrier meaning they have non-diluted fur but carry the gene for diluted fur. If a Lucky Kit has diluted fur, they will be listed as Dilute. Dilution can happen with all of the coat colors. Black becomes Gray. Red becomes Cream. Chocolate becomes Lilac. Cinnamon becomes Fawn. Tortoiseshell becomes Blue-Cream Tortoiseshell. Chocolate Tortoiseshell becomes Lilac-Cream Tortoiseshell. And Cinnamon Tortoiseshell becomes Fawn-Cream Tortoiseshell.

TABBY

___There are four different types of tabby patterns. If a cat is not a tabby, they are considered solid and will listed as such. The four tabby patterns are known as Mackerel, Classic, Spotted, and Ticked. Mackerel is the most common and causes thin, tiger-like stripes to appear on the body. Occasionally Mackerel may appear with "dashed" stripes. Classic causes a blotchy, swirling pattern on the body, which can occasionally appear with a more intense swirling pattern known as Marbled. Spotted causes spots across the body with stripes on the face, legs, and tail. Ticked causes a flecked or freckled look that sometimes shows stripes on the legs and tail.

TIPPED

___Tipped coats occur when only a portion of the hairs are colored with the rest of the hair being either white or gold. If a Lucky Kit does not display tipped fur, it will be listed as Non-Silver. If a Lucky Kit does display tipped fur, it will be listed as Silver meaning it has tipped fur, or Silver, Non-Silver Carrier meaning it has tipped fur but carries the gene for non-tipped fur.

___There are three instances of tipped, with each having a different percentage of the hair being colored. Chinchilla occurs when only 1/8 of the hair is colored and the rest is white or gold. This colored tip gives the coat a shimmering or sparkling look. Shaded occurs when only 1/4 of the hair is colored and the rest is white or gold. This colored tip causes a gradation with a dark shade on the back that fades to a lighter shade down the legs. Smoke occurs when half of the hair is colored and the rest is white or gold. This colored tip causes a pale ruff, where the throat and shoulders are lighter than the rest of the body.

POINTED

___Pointed coats cause a darker coloration on the face, ears, paws, and tail. If a Lucky Kit does not have a pointed coat, they will be listed as Not Pointed meaning they do not have a pointed coat, or Not Pointed, Pointed Carrier meaning they don't have pointed fur but carry the gene for a pointed coat. If a Lucky Kit has a pointed coat, it will be listed as Pointed.

WHITE SPOTTING

___Some cats can have white spotting on them in differing degrees. If a Lucky Kit has no spotting, it will be listed as having No Spotting. If a Lucky Kit has minor white spotting, it will be listed as having <50% White Spotting meaning it has less than fifty percent white spotting. If a Lucky Kit has major white spotting, it will be listed as having >50% White Spotting meaning it has greater than fifty percent white spotting.

___White spotting occurs in varying degrees. Some cats with the white spotting gene may end up with no white spotting at all. Minor white spotting causes "lockets" or patches of white to appear on the chest, belly, or toes. From there, the white patches get larger and spread up the neck and then onto the chin, nose, and rest of the face. Major spotting causes the white patch to begin spreading up the sides and further up onto the legs and body. As the white patch spreads further, the patches of color get smaller and smaller. The tail and face are the last patches of color that will show through the white spotting. Some cats with the white spotting gene may end up completely white with no colored patches at all.
