-Almost all of the worlds tropical rain forests lie close to the equator.
-There are two different types of rainforests, and they include both temperate and tropical. The tropical rainforests are the ones that are most commonly found around the world.
-Rainforests help to regulate the temperatures around the world and the weather patterns as well.
-Rainforests help to maintain our supply of drinking water and fresh water, so they are critical in the sustainability of the earth.
-About 1/4 of natural medicines have been discovered in rainforests.
-Within four square miles of tropical rainforest, you will find 1500 flowering plant species, 750 types of trees, and many of these plants can be helpful in combating cancer.
-Less than one percent of the species of plants in the tropical rainforests have actually been analyzed to determine their value in the world of medicine.
-There were around 6 million square miles of rainforest in the beginning, but now because of deforestation, there are really only less than half of that still found in the world.
-There are a lot of different types of animals that can be found in the rainforest, and most of them cannot live anywhere else because they depend on the environment of the rainforest for their most basic needs.

Discover!
Conch has been sneaking about, avoiding being discovered by Murre. On his sneaking about and foraging for food, he's come across something interesting... it was another snail! And it was even larger than Conch! It really looked like Conch a lot, and he was confused... but maybe this is where he comes from? It'd make sense. And so, Conch promptly ignored the other large snail in favour of some interesting carnivorous plants, a new type of pitcher plant perhaps? Conch isn't very bothered with the past...

• i've mentioned tropical rainforest facts a lot, but where are my temperate ones ? what's the difference you ask ? well, whereas tropical rainforests have between 6 and 30 feet of rainfall in a year, temperate rainforests only need about 5 to 16 to gain their title.
• you may be surprised to learn about what animals live in this type of rainforest. in North America, the list includes: black and grizzly bears, raccoons, skunks, elk, squirrels, porcupines, rabbits, beavers, bald eagles, spotted owls, and horned owls.
• one type of lifeform in the temperate rainforests are epiphytic plants, which attach themselves to trees or other plants and use them as a means of foundation or support while collecting their resources from the environment as well. they are not parasitic as they do not leech resources from the trees themselves. a common example is the orchid, and in some cases mosses.
• there are two definitions commonly thought of for temperate rainforests specifically. the North American definition states that a) annual precipitation must be over 140 cm, and b) mean annual temperature is between 4 and 12 degrees C (39 and 54 degrees F). the Australian definition states that a) a closed canopy of trees excludes at least 70% of the sky, and b) the forest is composed of tree species that, for the most part, do not need fire as a source of regeneration, but rather seedlings that can growi n the shade of limited sky-openings. Neither definition covers all rainforests, as each excludes forests unique to various locations.
• while temperate forests occur all over the world, temperate rainforests only occur in small pockets of these areas.
• thought they're called temperate rainforests for a reason, some rainforests get their precipitation in the form of snow or one of its variants.
  still, they are composed of water, though you wouldn't change the name of a rainforest to sleetforest based on season.
• temperate rainforests cover about 75 million square acres of the Earth's surface
• 55% of temperate rainforests have been recorded as destroyed by humans' presence, whether it be in the form of logging, clearing land for farming, or another factor.
