welcome to a land where the seasons last for many,
many moons. some cats have never even seen snow
in their territory due to the great green-leaf, that's
now coming to an end after a hundred and fory-two
moons. no cat is prepaired for the bare-leaf that is
upon them, and with tension already high due to a
beast ravaging through the forest, sequoiaclan isn't
sure they will survive the long bare-leaf to come.
the cats can already sense the change coming, and
the rain that has arrived is just the start of what's
to come. already there is a shortage of prey as all
of the normal mice and squirrels are entering their
slumber or dying due to the frost that comes every
night before dawn. the rest of the prey is drowning
in the floods that are slowly consuming the land; it
seems like the end has arrived for sequoiaclan.

    └──────────────────┘
the sequoia forest didn't always just have one clan, in the past a
handful of groups thrived beneath the towering trees; the woods
were a paradise for any cat that stepped into the land. that was
until the first bare-leaf arrived, the cats call it the time of death
because that was what it was. when green-leaf returned only ten
cats had survived, those who were born in the brutal moons and
had adapted to the harsh weather. these cats came together and
formed the clan that is now known as sequoiaclan.

sequoiaclan is a clan with a rich history and many traditions that
are unusual. out of all the clans to rise and fall they are the only
one that has managed to survive the worst of things due to their
strict laws. in the harsh weather, warriors are only permitted to
eat twice a week to save up on fresh-kill, apprentices can thrice
a week. queens and kits are the top priority along with medicine
cats, yet if worst comes to worst it is the kits who are chosen to
be safe in hopes of preserving the clan's heritage. when bare-leaf
comes elders are forced to fend for themselves, it may be harsh
but it is how the clan has survived for so long. when things aren't
bad, the clan is more like a paradise, prey comes in bundles and
all is right, there are rarely any threats that challenge the clan.

[ - the territory

┌──────────────────────────────────────┐

the forest sequoiaclan thrives in is ancient and full of history. the trees themselves, being giant sequoias, have
been on the land for over a hundred years, long before any felines started showing up. the forest stretches for
miles and miles until the land becomes barren and ashes, the remains of a burnt down forest the clan has never
seen. the infertile territory was once the cats original home but the cats have forgotten their tragic origin story
that drove them into the forest they now live in. the forest is veined with fresh rivers and streams that provide
a drinkable source to all the animals who thrive in the land. the territory is divided into five sections, the north,
east, south, west, and centre. they're otherwise called "the barren forest", "shadowlands", "eagle enclave", and
"yellow land". the centre of the territory is where the clan mostly stays, it's large enough to fit all of their needs
so they don't have to wonder beyond the thin borders they made. "the barren forest", located in the north lacks
the common surplus of prey and is known for being the coldest during the winter. the east otherwise called the
"shadowlands" is where the forest is the thickest, it is from here that most of the enemies of the clan originate
from. "eagle enclave" in the south is the breeding ground and home of many golden eagles, tragically a rare and
very needed herb is only found in this dangerous region. in the west is the second most used land, it was named
after the greet flowering fields that consume the forest floor and the main source of the clan's herbs. the centre
is recognized for being where the clan's camp resides, it is also where "reflection pool" is located, a giant lake on
the western border where fish are hunted from.

    p r e y
montane vole, horned lark, pinyon jay, little kern,
and flying squirrel are the most common prey the
cats catch and find on the land, they can be seen
throughout the forest easily. big-eared woodrat is
uncommon but a great treat, normally warriors or
apprentices will give these plump woodrats to the
expecting queens of the clan, supposedly the prey
is supposed to help the queens to have a good and
stable birth. the green-tailed towhee, a colourful
bird, is another prized creature of the forest, the
beautiful feathers are used to decorate nests but
the meat isn't too bad. acorn woodpeckers would
be a favorite in the clan if they didn't live in eagle
inclave. pygmy rabbits are a common sight in the
woods but their speed makes them very difficult
    to catch.

    └──────────────────┘
    ┌──────────────────┐

    h e r b s
rosemary is found across the forest in all regions,
the herb is a good flea repellant. borage leaf can
also be found anywhere along with burdock root,
coltsfoot, comfrey, and liquorice roots. within the
territory cobwebs are a bit difficult to find unless
you know the right places to look, which, luckily,
all the medicine cats know where to look, poppy
seeds are also difficult due to being found mostly
in the east, past the border. catmint, goldenrod,
honey, and yarrow flowers are the four hardest
herbs to get due to only being found in the eagle
enclave. a majority of the other useful herbs can
be found anywhere although not in an abundance.
raspberry leaves, lungwort, and alder bark cannot
be found anywhere in the forest.

┌────────────────────────┐
sequoiaclan's camp is located in the centre region of the forest,
resting a little bit towards the yellow land border in the west, a
very peaceful location. fuchsia gooseberry bushes encircle their
camp, defending it from invaders with their thorns. rather than
one entrance, the camp has four, two of which are a secret. in
the elder's den, there is a secret emergency tunnel the leader,
the deputy, and a few elder warriors know about. it goes from
the camp to the yellow lands. the other secret entrance no one
knows about is a small tunnel behind the apprentice's den. the
other two are the main entrance, located next to the warrior's
den and the leader's, and the medicine cat's entrance, a small
path in the bushes that is hard to find. all but the nursery and
leader's den are hollowed out boulders caused by streams. the
leader's den is a scorched, and almost completely burnt down
tree trunk, hollowed out by years of rotting away. the nursery
is more secure and comfy is a small crater surrounded by thick
bushes that it is impossible to go through. the only entrance it
has faces the back of the camp, away from all of the entrances.
at the front of the camp, closest to the camp entrance is the
warrior's den and leaders den, towards the back, is the elder's
den and the medicine cat, while in the centre of the camp is
the nursery.

STAGROAR
age. 44 m . rank. warrior . where. warriors' den ; fresh-kill pile . tags. open . words. 1204
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
    lol
stagroar was awoken by the drumming of rain and the slow drip, drip, drip of water onto his nose.
indent the chocolate-pelted tomcat grumbled and snorted, shaking his head, as he rode the cusp of sleep's dark waves onto the shore of consciousness. his narrow yellow-brown eyes gradually adjusted to the change in lighting, pupils shrinking and dilating, until, after a few moments, the warrior could bear to lift his head and peer around the den. some of the bodies of the other warriors──warm lumps of fur all crowded together in the far corner of the hollowed boulder, in an effort to escape the cold outside──remained, but a great deal of mossy nests were missing owners. he couldn't tell the time of day if he tried. outside, the skies were charcoal gray, and the sun was obscured; somehow, someway, faint hues of light streamed into the den, fighting feebly against the deluge. stagroar wondered if sequoiaclan would ever go a day without rain again; what was it like to feel the warmth of the sun? the forest had been reduced to puddles and mud and drowned creatures. he doubted spring would ever emerge from the utter chaos of the seasons and the dark clouds that swarmed the sky. stagroar looked upward and glared at the boulder's leaky roof, as if staring down the sprung leak would fix his clan's dilemma. it didn't. more water fell through onto his face, as if starclan was laughing at his attempts.
indent stagroar's lips curled in irritation and he clambered to his feet, shifting until he was out of the way of the water. the light chocolate cat yawned loudly and raised a large paw to rub his face clean of the sleep dust that had gathered in the corners of his eyes and the water. thunder grumbled in the distance, and he wished he could collapse back into his warm nest and sleep this muggy day away. of course, describing his nest as warm was an unrealistic idea. ever since the rains had started tormenting the sequoia forest──killing prey-creatures, causing landslides and deadly floods, forcing a forest to turn frigid too early──it felt like stagroar was never warm. too many times he had woken up surrounded by clanmates only to still be at the mercy of the blustering wind; too many times he had woken up with pads so numb that he swore they were blue. and things were only worsening. though sequoiaclan was small and its ranges expansive, prey was disappearing fast──either getting swept away by the flooding or plucked off by other hunger-pained predators. the tension in camp was thick, and cats were antsy as to what the sudden season changes meant for their future . . . and their shrinking bellies.

indent he pushed thoughts of the chill that haunted his bones aside. if the grand tom started moving, then the air whispering through his thin fur and tickling his nose would subside. after all, stagroar and his clanmates had been dealing with the rain and floods for the past few moons, and he knew from experience that once he busied himself the coldness and the wetness wouldn't plague his mind as much. so much for more sleep. with all this in mind, the angular tom proceeded to complete his usual morning routine: he first bowed, sliding his forelegs out before him, in a luxurious stretch, and when he had slowly eased himself out of that, he arched his back. the chocolate warrior relished in the familiar cracks and pops his cramped, cold-locked bones made as he twisted every way possible for a feline. he released a low, rumbling purr at the feeling of refreshment and invigoration that came over him; the noise reverberated throughout his broad chest and caught in his throat, creating a deep roar for which he had earned his suffix. stagroar completed his primping by shaking out his fur wildly and suddenly; he became a large mass of brown, blurred as he shook the cold from his legs and the nape of his neck, where unmistakable hints of frost had gathered. he didn't bother to lick his pelt into submission; the wind and rain whistling outside would style it for him. the angular brute stalked easily around the few cats that separated him from the entrance to the den, long legs ensuring he did not crush body parts. stagroar slipped out of the hole in the hollowed boulder-den and stepped outside, only to be instantly met with everything he had expected.
indent rain, rain, mucky puddles, and, oh wait . . . more rain.

indent the large warrior shrank against the wall of the den, which offered meager protection but suited him fine; drops still hit him, and stagroar wondered why he didn't have webbed feet yet after being succumbed to the annoyances of water every day. he stared out at the soaked camp and its sparse occupants. cats were out there, milling around, but they stuck to the gooseberry bushes that lined the camp to avoid the expanding puddles in the center of the camp. thankfully the clan had no queens at the moment with the crazy weather; the nursery was the heart of the camp, getting the beat-down from the rain, and stagroar could only imagine how nerve-racking it would be if a mother or kitten fell ill. the clan was hanging precariously when it came to illness. all the rain and dampness wasn't good for anybody, and stagroar tried to keep his mind off of the fact that, sooner or later, someone was going to fall sick and infect the clan, thus inciting a downward spiral into starclan-knows-what.
indent stagroar shook his head of the mental cobwebs that were gathering there, squinting out into the downpour. the fresh-kill pile, though small, looked as if it still offered prey. the chocolate-furred tom was starving──his shriveled belly cried out when he simply pictured a nice morsel──because everyone's rations had been cut in half. he knew that ammilstar would frown upon him for eating before the deputy, medicine cats, or younger apprentices were fed, but stagroar was so hungry . . . and one scrawny prey-creature wouldn't be the end of the world. steeling himself for the bitter sting of the rain, the male darted away from the boulder and bounded across the camp, eyes narrowed against the driving downpour and pelt doused by the time he skidded to a stop at the fresh-kill pile. he examined the contents of the pile with a twitching tail, eager to get out of the rain; there was a lark, a vole, a pigeon, and one crushed mouse. all were completely drenched and feeble, but stagroar chose the vole and hurried to slide beneath a gooseberry bush. lightning flashed overhead as he settled down on the semi-dry ground, cold, goose-bumped body immune to the thorns on the bush behind him. the big brown tom sniffed at the critter as he set it between his paws a few times before digging in. the vole's meat was tough and lacked flavor, but prey was prey, and stagroar was going to take what he could get. he munched in silence and thoughtfully watched the rain pour.

‛MILKFLOWER
age. 36 moons x for. fluffypaw, mentions batpaw x role. medicine cat x words. 1165
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ ━━━━━━━ ━━━ ━

milkflower's brilliant amber eyes peeled open to the sound of rain sprinkling, sprinkling, and sprinkling down to mist the opening of her den.
indentthere was only so much that a she-cat could take when it came to shouldering the entire forest's burdens. milkflower had made a life out of becoming so emotionally broad that she could lift the heavy loads that others might have suffered under; and indeed, she did suffer, but silently and much more hidden so that those others couldn't see and feel sorry for her. she wanted to be stoic, to be able to bear everything so that no cat else would be in any kind of pain. but she was only good with the physical kind, the sort of shielding that she could do by placing her own body, paws, and knowledge upon the danger─the kind that could be fixed with herbs and crushed flowers. when it came to wounds of the emotional kind─a wound like the loss of her mentor, for instance─milkflower was at a loss with how to deal with it, except to move away from everything and be alone with herself, because only when she was alone and sure that her suffering wouldn't affect others could she allow herself to grieve. when it had first happened, she had run deep into the forests and tried to rip up everything that grew and sprouted green in her path, but now that the fires had turned to dull coals in her blood, she just needed time and space apart from everything.
indent cedarpool . . . the name felt weird among the boundaries of her mind . . . weird that as of this moment in time, it had been her only way to recollect the memories of her mentor─now gone and passed. the image of the intelligent molly had been slowly fading away, being pushed to the back of her mind with the overflow of responsibilities she'd recently been faced with . . . though she had not been prepared for the death of her mentor─hell, not even her own successor. it had to be embraced; cedarpool was gone, just like one day she would be as well.

indentthe long expanse of territory running along the yellow lands were often uninhabited, posing little to no threat of danger to both her physical form and her emotional state; perhaps she would see to replenishing the several specific herb piles that were not looking to well─that being if the endless supply of rain hadn't yet managed to trample over the last of them. but suddenly, her little pink nose scented a trace of something familiar─familial─and she recognized the unmistakable smell of her dearest, and one of her only friends, batpaw. of course, they had their differences, as any did: milkflower was ahead of the jet black apprentice in age by more than a dozen moons, they had their share of disagreements, and of grievances, hatreds too─she supposed. she often found herself considering batpaw as a sort of son that she knew she would never have, and despite this being dysfunctional, she felt their relationship was held together by much more that a coarse thread . . . but a strong bond of appreciation and for one another, held strongly against the rest of the world. sometimes she found herself pondering over the sake of fluffypaw─had her friendship with batpaw affected the small, fiery-tabby she-cat in any way? she certainly hoped not, as it would pang her to know that her apprentice disagreed with the fair amount of time she spent with batpaw in their company─rather than where he belonged, alongside with mentor, rosemarytalon. however as much, as time passed by and her heart softly continued to drum, she found that the distinct scent of batpaw began to fade─perhaps he had merely passed her den prior to leaving to accompany a dawn patrol. the near constant rain had it's unusual techniques with tinkering with her nose, though she supposed she had never been thoroughly trained to track scents, anyway.
indentbreathe in, breathe out. she reminded herself, all while releasing a breathy sigh. the she-cat then extended her one paw to drag an alarmingly thin vole towards her, before leaning forward to take a bite; every chew and swallow was followed out with force, as the morsel felt as dry as cotton against her tongue. and with fresh-kill pile growing smaller by every sunrise, she could not help but feel a pang of selfishness to be one of the only whom held permission to satisfy the ache in her stomach with a few extra food rations. of course, she needed to maintain her strength for the sake of her position, for it would be dangerous if the she-cat would fall ill in such difficult times . . . but with the amount of suitable hunters growing weaker and weaker, it was not a rare occasion that she found herself to be questioning ammilstar's decisions. why was it that she, a mere medicine cat whom rarely once had to dig her claws into flesh and bone, had been prioritized above those whom needed strength for tracking down and killing prey? the warriors of sequoiaclan needed to remain building their muscle in order to stay in shape for hunting─that being if they were going to atleast catch and return to camp with a decent amount of food.

indentwith two orbs swimming with the deep concern for the future of her clan, milkflower struggled to take one last bite of the vole, before pushing the remaining morsels towards the bright orange and white form of fluffypaw. it appeared to be that the young molly was still captured by the lull of sleep─her flank was rising and falling softly, rhythmically─though perhaps soon it would be time to wake her. she then drew a white paw over her whiskers, pulled herself two her paws─her limbs awfully unstable due to the amount of food portions lessening by the day─and ruffled her pale coat with a light shake of her thickening fur. "err, fluffypaw, my dear?" the small she-cat approached the slumbering apprentice, and lightly drew her tail across the forehead of the younger feline. "little one, it is time to wake, dawn has arrived." she meowed, her tone soft and gentle. her amber eyes danced to match her voice and she swayed her tail slowly as she waited for her apprentice to stirr. "with the weather growing colder, it is time to see to replenishing our stocks of borage leaves and coltsfoot." pausing, she gave the apprentice another soft rub of the tail. "i fear that we may need to venture out in the rain." briefly, milkflower glanced over her shoulder to peer at the rain, in which appeared to be still softly falling, caressing the earthly floor with it's moisture. an everlasting chill was beginning to settle in the forest─one that bit into milkflower's skin and unsettled her mind . . . but did they have a choice?
