a warriors roleplay
❝we must escape!❞
the pack was close, hard on the cats' trail. close enough to feel their musty and hot breath on their back legs, it creeping up to their flanks during each pounding leap. close enough for the blood to pound in all ears, along with the smell of fear clouding the air. all ranks of the previously mighty clan were fleeing with just the same amount of cowardliness, their paws half-stumbling and half-running towards whatever direction they could. the time seemed to cloud up, go in slow motion. the smells and noises seemed to blur, all creating a mixture of one scent. wolf scent.
"this way!" stonestar yowled, his voice cutting through the gasps of air taken in by each cat as they ran. the leader swerved to the left, noticing something that would grab his attention. the panicking cats blindly followed their leader, scared enough to take orders from anyone at this point. they needed somewhere to go, or feel some security in what they were doing. as they approached what stonestar had saw, the cats understood why this was the place their leader had chosen.
as they neared, it became apparent that the ground on their paws gave away, like a drop. below was more land. free land. land where wolves could not follow them. "stonestar, do you have a plan?" one scared voice in the crowd gasped out, fearing what would happen once they did reach the end of the cliff.
stonestar evened his pace a little, thinking had fastened his mind, but slowed his pace. still the wolves followed. just as stonestar opened his jaw, a screech cut through the air. whipping their heads around as they ran, the cats saw on of their warriors, yarrowstalk, being leaped on by one of the mangy animals that were following them. if you could even call them that, monsters would suit better.
all cats knew they couldn't slow. as sick as it was, they knew it would slow the wolves down a bit. enough for the remaining cats to make an escape, or at least a plan. like all cats, yarrowstalk had a family. they felt terrible for thinking in such way, but the clan had silently agreed that no matter what happened, you could not stop running if you wanted to make it. cutting the terrible silence, and tension, stonestar spoke out. "we will go to the cliff! be careful and nimble, try to hop down on the rocks that make up the wall!" though it might not have been the greatest plan, it would be able to trick the wolves. either they would quit the chase, or plummet to the bottom of the cliff.
the time had come where the cliff approached. the cats slowed to a stop, then paw after paw began to each take their own paths down to the ground below. panting and snapping wolves suddenly bolted their heads and front paws over the cliff, one or two slipping, the others snapping their jaws at the cats. violent and panicked hisses came out, all cats began working faster. once out of the wolfs jaws, they did not slow.
the clan deputy, scorchwhisker, had just hit his paws to the bottom of the cliff in victory, turning around to look at the long distance back up the cliff. a sigh of relief escaped his jaw, but soon turned into a yowl of terror as he turned his head. stonestar had tripped. the leader tumbled down the cliff with no stopping, landing with a sickening thud. scorchwhisker and a few of the other cats who hit the bottom of the cliff raced over to their leader. he looked bad.
the wolves had managed to tear off chunks of his gray fur, the places began to bleed. stonestar slowly opened his eyes, pain and grief stuck in them. "i'll...i'll watch over you, don't worry. take care...scorchstar." his eyes freezing before fulling closing, their leader lost all of his five remaining lives in that moment.
a silence hung over the clan.
