In the past there were four Clans- Wind, River, Thunder, and Shadow. Today they are spoken of in legend. Stories of great cats who lived in those Clans are still told to kits in the nursery.
Over time cats had split off from the four great Clans and went off on their own. Just a few here and there, usually cats with more of a free spirit. Occasionally these warriors decided to start their own Clans in a range of places. Two identical twin sisters of WindClan left one day long after the rein of Onestar, both with separate motivations. One sister, Rainspot, sought leadership and the other, Whitecloud, sought freedom, neither of which were available to the twins in WindClan. They traveled long and far together when one day they came to a dump. They had been to dumps in the past; they made great places to rest as food (be it mice or birds) was abundant. But this one was different. There was strange slush everywhere. When the sisters tasted it, it was foul. There was no water so it was their only choice of drink. The twins decided not to stay long in this place; there was something...toxic about it. They soon found that the animals who lived at the dump were odd as well, often sporting strange mutations. Frightened, the sisters left. Many moons later when they finally discovered a pleasant place to live, Rainspot and Whitecloud began developing oddities. Rainspot found she could move water at will, hear from far, far away, and that her claws had become harder and sharper. Whitecloud developed the ability to call small prey animals to her and move extremely quick.
The sisters settled down in their new place- a beautiful forested area near a wide lake- and eventually Rainspot suggested they form a Clan. After all, she'd always wanted to be a leader. Whitecloud said she would help her sister only if she promised to allow her to be deputy, and that they work together to make the rules. Neither sister had especially cared for some of the policies back in WindClan. It was agreed and the two began searching for cats to fill their new Clan. They also started to develop their new rules. It was soon discovered that the two sisters had rather different views on how they wanted to run the new Clan and they soon were constantly bickering. The strays and housecasts they had recruited were led back and forth, one way then the other. Whitecloud's rules or Rainspots? Eventually, when the Clan had enough cats to support it, Whitecloud rounded up a few of her supporters in the dead of night and departed. She led them away from the lake, to a more open area that reminded her of the home they had so long ago left. Whitecloud declared her and the cats who followed her a separate Clan from Rainspot's. She began calling herself Whitestar and set up her own rules. In turn, Rainspot took the name Rainstar and developed her Clan to her standards. The two sister Clans grew and prospered.
Eventually both of the she-cats found mates and had kits. Their kittens proved to have similar mutations as they did and then some they did not. For instance, several of Whitestar's children had two tails. A handful of Rainstar's had fur that, when bristled, was sharp as a porcupine's quills. From then on you could tell a cat was descended from the two leaders if they had strange mutations or powers.
Rainstar's Clan by the lake became known as "RockyClan" in respect to the rocky beach of the lake close to camp. Whitestar's Clan was named "CloudClan" because, while they lived on the outskirts of the forest, most of their territory was a wide field open to the sky.

Now we are many generations into the future, when both Clans are well-off. Over time their resentment for eachother has fluctuated, rising and falling. Currently the two are particularly angry at eachother after a group of RockyClan cats bullied a CloudClan apprentice into swimming across the stream that separates the two Clans. The apprentice drowned.

Changes In Tradition

Changes In Tradition

Both Clans are run somewhat different than the traditional Warriors way. Whitestar set up CloudClan more similarly to the old way, but even it varies. Here is how they both differ:

StarClan:

Both Clans still believe in StarClan, though with their open view of the sky CloudClan is much closer to them. CloudClan in fact is so close to StarClan that each new moon, when the stars are at their brightest, the Clan has a sort-of feast. They go all day without eating and then at around midnight they migrate to Sky Rise and eat and rest, watching the sky in silence and looking back on those they have lost. If there is anything StarClan would wish to share to the Clan or the leader would like to speak with the spirit cats, this is when communication will happen.
RockyClan on the other hand is a bit more distant to their ancestors. When a kit is born they thank StarClan, and in troubled times they beg the stars for help or guidance, but otherwise they prefer to walk their own path.

Leaders and Deputies:

Deputies are still chosen by leaders, but in CloudClan leaders tend to choose their kin as deputies. It has resulted in a long line of leaders directly related to Whitestar. RockyClan leaders are often chosen by who seems to be the most dependable.
When a new deputy is picked for CloudClan the cat must travel to Sky Rise and attempt to communicate with StarClan. This is also done when a deputy becomes leader.
In RockyClan a new deputy is celebrated for the rest of the day. When a deputy becomes a leader and makes their first announcement, cats traditionally throw leaves into the air and cheer.

Medicine Cats:

Medicine cats in both Clans tend to be the most connected with StarClan and also the bridge between the RockyClan and CloudClan. Where a warrior may enter the other Clan's territory and be attacked at the worst of times, the medicine cat is openly allowed to travel between lands. They still may be questioned, but no harm is to befall them or their apprentices. It has become custom that when a medicine cat takes on a new apprentice they travel with them to the other camp and introduce the new apprentice to the other Clan's medicine cat.
To commune with StarClan RockyClan medicine cats simply go down to the lake shore. On the beach is a rocky pool where they settle down and dip their nose in. With CloudClan, the medicine cat treks to a hollow tree around the edge of the forest and falls asleep within it. There they speak to StarClan.
Both medicine cats go to visit StarClan on the new moon, though CloudClan medicine cats often go more frequently.
Medicine cats in either Clan may have mates, but CloudClan they cannot have kits. In RockyClan medicine cats may only have kits if their apprentice is learned enough that they could take over for a brief time while the medicine cat would be with their kits. This goes for she-cats and toms both.

The Warrior Code:

1. Defend your Clan, even with your life. You may have friendships with cats from the other Clans, but your loyalty must remain to your Clan, as one day you may meet them in battle.

* Both Clans abide by this code.

2. Do not hunt or trespass on another Clan's territory.

* Both Clans abide by this rule.

3. Elders and kits must be fed before apprentices and warriors. Unless they have permission, apprentices may not eat until they have hunted to feed the elders.

* Both Clans have alterations on this rule. In RockyClan if an apprentice is hunting they may eat the smallest thing they catch, then proceed to make sure the elders and kits are fed.
In CloudClan apprentices can eat whatever and whenever, so long as prey is plentiful. When it is scarce they must make sure others are fed first.

4. Prey is killed only to be eaten. Give thanks to StarClan for its life.

* CloudClan follows this rule strictly and apprentices are punished when they do not give thanks or kill without intent to eat. In RockyClan most cats do not give thanks and they may play with their food, since they believe more in their own power than the stars, but in hard times many of them do thank StarClan.

5. A kit must be at least six moons old to become an apprentice.

* This rule is strictly followed in both Clans.

6. Newly appointed warriors will keep a silent vigil for one night after receiving their
warrior name.

* In CloudClan new warriors sit their vigil during the day, as that is when the Clan sleeps. RockyClan's warriors sit vigil throughout the night.

7. A cat cannot be made deputy without having mentored at least one apprentice.

* Both Clans, though they usually follow this rule, have broken it at least once. They justify it by remembering how neither Cloudstar nor Rainstar had mentored an apprentice before becoming leader.

8. The deputy will become Clan leader when the leader dies or retires.

* This is followed by both Clans.

9. After the death or retirement of the deputy, the new deputy must be chosen
before moonhigh.

* CloudClan follows this, but RockyClan has extended it. They believe it is an option which requires much thought and a leader may have up to three days to decide.

10. A gathering of all four Clans is held at the full moon during a truce that lasts for the night. There shall be no fighting among Clans at this time.

* The leaders, deputies, and occasionally a few other cats do sometimes gather on full moons but not every single time. If a leader wants to hold a gathering they send a messenger to the other Clan and if it is agreed, then the next full moon the two Clans will gather. Usually this happens if something important has occurred or one Clan has a request from the other. News, threats, and an assortment of other information is often shared. Often if the Clans are on good terms a gathering will be held every moon or two, just to chat.

11. Boundaries must be checked and marked daily. Challenge all trespassing cats.

* This is followed by both Clans.

12. No warrior may neglect a kit in pain or in danger, even if that kit is from a different Clan.

* This is followed strictly by both Clans.

13. The word of the Clan leader is the warrior code.

* This is followed by both Clans.

14. An honorable warrior does not need to kill other cats to win his battles, unless they are outside the warrior code or it is necessary for self-defense.

* This is followed by both Clans, though in the past both Clans have fought and killed simply for revenge.

15. A warrior rejects the soft life of a kittypet.

* This is followed by both Clans but since they have their roots in kittypets, strays, and loners, occasionally they accept an outsider into their ranks. They do tend to dislike kittypets over loners and strays.

Territories

Postby Queen Hydra » Wed Nov 27, 2013 11:15 am

Territories

Territory information, prey types, places of interest, and shared spots.

RockyClan

* Territory;
RockyClan's territory is heavily forested, filled with mostly oak and pine trees. There is thick undergrowth in most places until you arrive at the lake. There, vegetation begins to thin and the ground becomes rocky. The lake is wide and stretches so far to where a cat can barely see the other side. The Clan's entire territory makes a sort of crescent around the shore of the lake, with a quarter of their land being the beach.

* Prey;

RockyClan has a variety of prey. They often catch small fish from the stream or lake. Birds, mice, rabbit, and nonvenomous snakes can be found in the forest. There are even turtles, if a cat is clever enough to get it out of its shell. Water voles live along the grassy areas of the stream.

* Places of Interest;

Camp - RockyClan's camp is right on the edge of the forest, where the grass starts to give way to rocks. There is a fallen oak, its thick twisted branches forming the perfect protection from enemies. A few of the branches are hollowed out, allowing for dens.
The leader's den is actually in the trunk among the huge maze of roots. One must know the exact path to make their way through the roots without getting lost. Once you've made it through and entered the trunk, it's dark but spacious.
The medicine cat's den is on the ground under the leader's den. Most of it is actually under the trunk and has been dug out to create a nice little cave-like area. The main entrance is large enough for a few cats to rest comfortably. There is a smaller space in the back for the medicine cat, their apprentice, and the herbs they have in stock.
The warriors' den is not really a den. It under several finger-like branches that curve from the trunk dig into the ground, creating something that resembles a giant hand trapping the cats. Only, they aren't trapped. When the weather is bad the warriors can move further back into a more covered area under the base of the branches.
The apprentices den is under two large branches that are covered in moss, keeping the rain out. They can exit from two different directions.
The nursery is in a hallowed-out branch about a yard off the ground. It has very small holes in it here and there, allowing for light.
The leader makes announcements from the trunk just outside of the leader's den.

The Beach - RockyClan's most important place would probably be the beach. Cats often spend much non-hunting time there. They play, rest, and chat on the rocky shore. In some areas the stones are big enough that they create small caves and often apprentices find themselves playing hide and seek within them.

Rocky Pool - Down the beach, away from the camp, is the Rocky Pool. Medicine cats communicate with StarClan here. It is a dip in the beach where rain water has collected. It's about two feet deep. If it ever begins to dry, the cats take it that something bad is about to happen.

Lightning Tree - In the forest there is an old twisted oak that has been struck with lightning so many times it is almost completely black and hollow, yet it always manages to hold onto life. New green leaves can always be seen struggling to survive, then it is struck again. It is a popular hangout place, especially for younger cats who enjoy playing on the blackened branches. Adult cats often lay on the branches and enjoy the warmth of the sun.

CloudClan

* Territory;

CloudClan's territory mostly consists of a wide field surrounded by the forest. Only a bit of their land is forest, that being the part that borders RockyClan. The rest is all open space where the grass is tall and trees do not take root. There is a small creek that cuts their land almost in half and goes to join up with the stream that separates the two Clans.

* Prey;

The prey in CloudClan's territory is less of a variety than in RockyClan's. Most of their food is mice, with birds, rabbits, and voles occasionally caught. Unlike RockyClan, the cats of CloudClan hate getting their paws wet thus they rarely fish from the streams.

* Places of Interest;

Camp - CloudClan's camp is very simple. It is about a quarter of the way into the field from the forest where the grass grows the tallest. Here the cats have worn the vegetation down from generations of pawsteps, creating pathways and trails from one place to the next. The cats have worked the grass into simple dens that hardly shelter them from the elements. They are all very close together. Only the nursery is more thoroughly protected. It has a large rock on one side and a few bushes on the other.
The leader makes announcements from the rock next to the nursery, but at other times the rock is often a place used to relaxing and sunning.

Badger Pit - There is a large hole in the ground far from the camp on the other side of the territory named for its former resident. When Whitestar first made base on the field it is said there was a huge ferocious badger living in the hole. It tortured the Clan until finally they rallied together and attacked it. Despite many injuries, the cats managed to kill the predator. Since then it has been said the ghost of the badger still lives in the pit. Naturally, apprentices often dare eachother to go inside.

Snake Circle - On the distant side of the territory where the forest begins (the forest which is owned by neither Clan) there is an area with many big rocks oddly piled in a circle. This spot is notorious for housing venomous snakes and is avoided at all costs.

Sky Rise - In the very heart of the territory the land slopes upwards, creating a gentile hill. The very top of called "Sky Rise" and it is the place where new leaders and deputies commune with StarClan.

Star Tree - Star Tree is an old hollowed tree on the edge of the forest where medicine cats go to commune with StarClan.

Shared Places

The Stream - The stream is a narrow slit of water that separates the two Clans. RockyClan often uses it for fishing.

The Gathering Place - The gathering place is a spot just outside both territories where the stream runs into the lake. RockyClan cats, due to CloudClan's dislike of water, must cross the stream. Just over the stream is more of the same rocky shore, only in this small area most of the stones are the color of the moon. The two Clans occasionally gather here on the full moon to share news and discuss important matters.

Powers/Mutations and Rules

Postby Queen Hydra » Wed Nov 27, 2013 11:45 am

Powers/Mutations

Not every cat will have powers or mutations, and those that do will not have extreme abilities. Most abnormalities only give cats slight advantages over others and are not completely game-changing. Only cats directly related to Whitestar and Rainstar will have abilities and mutations; close kin to rogues, loners, or kittypets will not. Even those related may not have them. There should be a healthy amount of cats in both Clans who do not have powers or mutations.

While the oddities have changed over time and vary greatly, RockyClan is most common for cats with elemental control and high-jumping. In CloudClan felines with two tails and the power to, to some degree, communicate with other animals is most common.

Cats may have both a mutation and a power, but it isn't often that they have two of either.

Just because a kit's parents have certain oddities does not exactly mean that the kit will have those same ones. Often they are completely differnet.

Please be creative with your abnormalities :]

Rules

* You must type at least three sentences with correct grammar, spelling, ect. Mistakes are okay occasionally but "writer's block" is not. For a semi-literate or above person three sentences should be exceptionally easy, even with writer's block.

* Please post no more than two pages without me.

* Your cats cannot be mates with your own cats.

* Please post at least once a week. If you can't do that please let me know.

* Only take important positions- such as leader or medicine cat- if you know you can be active.

* If you do not let whoever plays the leaders know what you want your apprentice's warrior name to be, the leader is free to fabricate one them self.

* Please attempt to keep both gender and Clan populations even. Do not make a female in a Clan with several more she-cats than toms, and do not make a cat in a Clan that has twelve cats when the other Clan only has four.

* Please signify which Clan the cats you are roleplaying are in by adding "RockyClan" or "CloudClan" above their part of your post.

* You must wait to be accepted before you can roleplay. You may be requested to alter your cat's mutation or power if I feel it is too overpowered.

* Be creative and have fun! :3

Quick Notes

* The season is late greenleaf.
* CloudClan is primarily nocturnal. They are rarely up and about during the day. On the other paw, RockyClan is diurnal. Both Clans vary though. Most interaction between Clans is at dusk and dawn.
* Neither Clan is known for being particularly kind or evil. True to the name "Twin Clans", they are often even in personalities. The only really big difference between them is perhaps in the way RockyClan cats look to their own strength- both physical and mental- to forge their path and how CloudClan often relies on their faith with StarClan to give them guidance and assistance.
* RockyClan apprentices tend to be taught more ruggedly than CloudClan apprentices. They do a lot more physical stuff, while CloudClan training is a large part focus and thinking. RockyClan cats also have a tendency to enjoy water, whereas CloudClan has an aversion to it.

Form

Feel free to add pieces to the form, but please do not exclude anything.
If you decide to describe your character instead of offering an image please do so in great detail.
For "age" remember that a moon is a month and a cat can generally live for at least twelve years.
For "personality" please give us at least a paragraph, but it is understandable that characters often develop to be different than described so you do not need to put a whole lot unless you just want to.
For "likes" and "dislikes" please include at least three things for each.
For "strengths" and "weaknesses" please include at two three things for each.

Shadowstar

Postby Queen Hydra » Wed Nov 27, 2013 12:03 pm

Image
This is my rl kitty <3
Eye Color: Brilliant green.
Name: Shadowstar (Formerly Shadowstripe)
Gender: She-cat
Clan: CloudClan
Rank: Leader
Age: 75 Moons (A little over six years)
Kin: Shadowstar raised a pair of toms since their real mother died when they were a moon old. She called them Whitekit and Silverkit. When they were apprentices Silverpaw was drowned in the stream, but Whitekit is now Whiteflame.
Oddity: Shadowstar can draw small animals closer to her. Also, she has two tails.
Personality: Shadowstar is a cat who is usually calm, but can easily be fired up. She has a temper on her that matches a badger's and she is fiercely protective to those she loves. She tends to be good at putting personal matters and emotions aside when she needs to do her job as leader, unless they involve her sons. Within her own Clan she is a fair leader who runs the Clan well. She is determined, loyal, and often blunt. Occasionally a side of Shadowstar which enjoys teasing and playing shows itself, though only to those she is close to.
Likes: Hunting, running, her Clan, family.
Dislikes: Water, RockyClan, bugs.
Strengths: She is able to keep a clear mind in even the worst of events and she is very fast-moving.
Weaknesses: She is suspicious and does not easily trust.
Other: The queen who was Whiteflame's true mother was Shadowstar's sister.

Slowpaw

Postby Queen Hydra » Wed Nov 27, 2013 12:04 pm

Image
Eye Color: Right eye is blue, left is gold.
Name: Slowpaw
Gender: Male
Clan: RockyClan
Rank: Medicine Cat Apprentice
Age: 7 Moons
Kin: He was adopted by the Clan when a twoleg dumped him and his siblings by the lake and left them in the snow. His brothers and sisters died in the cold of leafbare and he was the only one to survive.
Oddity: None.
Personality: Slowpaw is named accurately, for his movements often are rather slow. He takes his time to think things through thoroughly before acting and makes no decision without great forethought. If he needs to think quickly he often fumbles and stutters. Still, the young cat is actually rather smart and crafty. He has proven to be able to find his way through tricky situations, even if resources are limited. Despite that others tend to lose their patience with him, Slowpaw is thoughtful and kind to most everyone. He can keep a grudge, though. If a cat ever gets very far on his bad side they may never return to his good side.
Likes: Playing with turtle shells, collecting interesting rocks, learning new things, mint.
Dislikes: When others argue with him, getting his paws wet, mice.
Strengths: He is crafty, he is great at improvising, and he has a good memory.
Weaknesses: He slow-moving and can't always think fast when the stakes are high.
Other: Despite being raised in RockyClan the apprentice has an aversion to water.

Whiteflame

Postby Queen Hydra » Wed Nov 27, 2013 12:04 pm

Image
Eye Color: Hazel
Name: Whiteflame
Gender: Tom
Clan: CloudClan
Rank: Warrior
Age: 14 Moons (Just over a year)
Kin: Shadowstar[Mother], Silverpaw[Brother, dead].
Oddity: Whiteflame can make small balls of fire.
Personality: Whiteflame is a clam and relaxed cat, but also a little shy. He tends to be very comfortable and laid back with his friends but a little more on edge with those he doesn't know well. He's not usually very talkative. He enjoys exploring and can often be found just wandering around the territory. He probably knows it better than any other cat. Since his brother's death he's become a bit angrier, always seeming to be frustrated. He's also a touch more outspoken. He speaks out whenever RockyClan comes up in the conversation, usually saying something bad about them.
Likes: Calm days, running, sunning, playing with kits.
Dislikes: Bad weather, hot weather, outsiders.
Strengths: Whiteflame is a good strategist and he knows his territory extremely well.
Weaknesses: If he is sad it is hard to motivate him to do anything and he is not the best fighter.
Other: He holds a grudge against not RockyClan as a whole but the group of cats who caused his brother's death.

Sharpclaw

Postby Queen Hydra » Wed Nov 27, 2013 1:06 pm

Image
Eye Color: Yellow
Name: Sharpclaw
Gender: She-cat
Clan: RockyClan
Rank: Warrior
Age: 29 Moons (2 1/2 years)
Kin: None
Oddity: When her fur bristles it becomes as hard and sharp as needles.
Personality: Sharpclaw is an easily-spooked cat who tends to hide from everyone. She's very shy and aloof, yet she is also one of the Clan's best warriors. She excels at fighting and is a good hunter as well. Her swift movement and perfect timing makes her a hard cat to beat in battle. A fight is also the only way she comes out of her shell. She turns from shy little she-cat to fierce warrior. She is known to be kind but also to talk before thinking.
Likes: Hiding, fighting, hunting, clawing things.
Dislikes: Talking, interacting with others(unless in a fight), being trapped.
Strengths: She is very skilled in fighting and she is very fast.
Weaknesses: She is easily spooked and is terrified of social interaction.
Other: None.

We are all small on the wings of time, twirling about through the universe as a tiny mote twirls in the wind.
