the rival kingdom of kilven is in decline and many commoners left for hatha, causing the kingdom to struggle even more.
after the death of the kilven king, the crown prince took over as the new king and sought peace with their rival before
they could use the kingdom's weakness against them and take over.

the hatha king is old and sickly, his queen having already passed away. he won't last the winter and everyone knows it,
but the old stallion refuses to let a rival stallion take over his kingdom even if his daughter is named queen.

tensions are high as the two kingdoms try to come to an agreement before the winter comes and the hatha king perishes.
should the king die before the terms are set, chaos will erupt across both kingdoms as everyone tries to figure out who is
the new king and war will be inevitable. hopefully they can come to some sort of agreement in time.

the last few months have been hell to say the least. first, her father was on his deathbed and yet was as stubborn as ever. second, she was betrothed to the crown prince of cise, a neighboring kingdom her father was striving for an alliance with. and thirdly, the new young king of kilven was soon to arrive. ella still wasn't sure why her father even allowed the young king to come for peace talks when he's already in cahoots with cise. she knows her father wants the support of their neighbor in order to use their combined strength to overtake the still rebuilding kingdom of kilven. with such plans, she wasn't sure if he's planning to assassinate the young king or entertain his pleas for peace.

ella was half lounged on her pile of cushions, arms crossed on the windowsill and chin resting on them as she gazes sorrowfully out of the hazy glass. it won't be much longer now before she's sent back to cise with the prince who was sent over, perhaps another month until she leaves her home and never returns. the thought brings a pang of heartbreak as she tries her best not to cry. her handmaiden had done her face so nicely it would be a shame if she marred it.

the sound of the bells outside makes her tail flick in stress, but she heeds the call and rises from her cushions. the convoy was entering the city, they will be at the throne room very soon so it's best to get into position. ella checks her reflection in her polished silver mirror and smooths the emerald green fabric of her gown before heading for the door. the sound of her hooves on the stone floor did little to sooth her nerves as she travels the winding halls and passageways to the grand throne room where the convoy will be greeted by her family. or what was left of it.

it was still rather difficult to see the empty throne where her mother once lounged all regal and stern. it's been a year since she passed and it has yet to get easier. ella sighs as she enters the room and takes her place beside that empty throne. her hand brushes over the beautifully carved stonework for a moment before collecting herself and clasping her hands before her as she waits for the convoy. her father was brought into the room a moment later, pulled on an odd wagon contraption created just for him so he could get to the throne even in his frail sickly state. she had tried to make him see reason and stay in bed, but the old stallion wouldn't listen and insisted on being on his throne. her younger brother took his spot beside their father and their younger sister took the spot beside her. around the sides of the large room stood a good dozen or so nobles there to witness the exchanges. among the crowd was the group from cise, and with them, her betrothed, but she ignores him in favor of the events taking place.

once the family was in place and the king was seated comfortably on his throne, propped up with pillows and cushions, the guards opened the large doors at the far end of the throne room. not a moment later, the sound of hooves can be heard and soon the sound grows until the convoy arrives to the throne room.
