The clan was silent all cats held there breath as they watched Mallowfeather be examined by the medicine cat. The gray tom's flank hardly moved, as he was examined. Nightfur, Mallowfeather's mate crouched by his side, nose buried in his fur. The deputy had been taking his apprentice out for a lesson and took her up the old oak. The apprentice's foot got jammed in a squirrel's nest on accident and when Mallowfeather rushed to help her, he slipped on the wet bark and crashed to the bottom. The apprentice had screamed forever for help and it wasn't until her mother heard and recognized the wailing that se got her daughter down from the tree and rushed her mentor home. Now many of the cats fear the worst. Finally the medicine cat sits down and looks Nightfur in the eyes."He's dead." Was the simple response. NIghtfur choked back a wail, and Honeystar, the clan leader slid forward to face her fallen deputy. "You shouldn't of gone like this." She murmured. Now the clan must name a new deputy and continue on life as it is. So, will you join and live out Doveclan's Destiny?

It had started to rain at twilight. Honeystar sat at Mallowfeather's drenched head. moonhigh was beginning to drape over the trees and cast an odd silvery glow over the mournful Doveclan. All that night she had been thinking of who would be the next deputy. Many cats crossed her mind when she thought about it but she could only choose one, or at least that's what she had thought. many moons ago the new leader with nine new lives had asked Mallownose to be her right paw cat. She thought that when she died it would be Mallownose that stepped up and took her place. But that would never happen. Now, with only three of those nine lives left. This new cat would probably take her place someday. Well, time to tell the clan, the moon is almost at it's peak. The molly sat up and scrambled towards the highstone, an old weathered stone that the leader called meetings on. Well, this is the time. With a sad and sodden heart Honeystar yelled to the clan. "Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey gather around the highstone for a clan meeting!"

Nightfur didn't care that she got wet, she didn't care that anyone else got wet. She was just there, sitting silently staring at her mate Mallowfeather, half expecting him to sit up with a start and exclaim that it was all a joke. Mallowfeather was like that, always joking. She half heard Honeystar's meow to the highrock but didn't move away from her mate's shoulder. "Oh Mallownose!" She coughed. "Why did you have to leave me?"

She remembered when Honeystar had asked her to guard the camp that night. At first the she-cat thought it would be an honor, that she was trusted that well to guard the others. But then she realized why, and felt ashamed. The leader knew that Mistyclaw wouldn't be at the vigil, the molly would be asleep in her nest. She unsheathed he claws at the thought and then heard Honeystar's voice for a clan meeting. She slithered in from the forest and sat near the back.

» Lilypaw woke up to the familiar scent of herbs filling her nose. She took a deep breath, and sat up, staring around the den with sleepy eyes. Her ears pricked as she heard Honeystar call. "A clan meeting!" She exclaimed to herself. The light colored she-cat prodded her mentor lightly. "There's a clan meeting" She whispered, not wanting her mentor to miss it.

» At hearing the call for a meeting, Flameheart jumped to his paws and scurried out of the warrior's den. He did manage to step on a few tails so he mumbled a few "I'm sorry"s along the way. The ginger tom noticed Mistyclaw sitting near the back. "Hey there Mistyclaw" He greeted with a smile "What's got your fur ruffled?"

» Hazelflower had already been up. She was a very big morning cat and loved to take random strolls through the forest or just bask in the newly risen sun in the camp. The golden she-cat looked up as a meeting was called. She didn't have to move much from her current spot, she just shifted a bit so that she had a better view of Honeystar.
