Her pawsteps hardly made a sound on the dense
snowpack. The large tom which walked beside her seemed only
to be waiting for her to speak. "It's gone cold, hasn't it, Pinestar?",
noticed the small, white she-cat. Pinestar next to her wanted
to say something, but suddenly stopped. His ears twitched nervously.
"Do you hear?", he asked and made some quick steps forward.
"No, I don't-"
Scared, Shiverwing interrupted herself and rushed forward to
follow the tom. Stars were sparkling in the two cat's fur and they
made the frosty branches of the trees glisten.
"Exactly. I also don't. The waterfall ... is frozen."

She followed his gaze to a hill, decorated by rocks.
Normally, water was merrily splashing down into a
small pond, but not in this night.
"But how can that be?", asked the StarClan-cat
and her claws dug into the cold ground.
The tom shook his head.
"The question is not how, but why."
He looked worried, in his eyes gleamed
a certain foreboding. Shiverwing looked at him
questioningly and he gave her a nod.
"It is time to warn the clan.
When the time comes, the flame has to burn hot.
If it doesn't,
snow and night will silence the clan forever."

The clan lives in a flat valley, which is
all around plagued by severe,
devastating snowstorms.
In the valley internally there are much rarer storms
but it's always cold,
even in summer lies scattered snow.
In the territory there are many rocky hills and caves,
some, mostly, frozen streams and a river,
which flows into several waterfalls.

Vegetation is scarce, there are growing firs and a few,
obstinate bushes. In summer everywhere grow herbs
that are collected for the winter.
The camp is located in a rocky deepening and as dens
serve sheltered small caves.
Half the territory is crossed by a tunnel system and
deeply hidden there are an undiscovered,
hot spring.

Oaksong let her eyes wander sympathetically over the camp. The layer of snow was everywhere trampled and less thick than in the rest of the territory, however, the fresh-kill pile was a little small for her taste.
Whether she should send out a hunting patrol?
Oakstar decided that it was too early and first of all should a Border Patrol search the border for hungry ice-foxes. The deputy had yesterday sniffed a strange smell, so she thought she´d better play it safe.

Although it was almost sun high, Lynxpaw came just now tapped out of the cave, which was the apprentice den. Yesterday he had shoveled snow out of the camp till late at night, so his mentor had granted him a break. With a loud yawn, he glanced around the camp, looking for a new task.

Tinyleaf had been awake and on his feet a long time. Even before it was light.
The small warrior had tried to catch a snow bunny or an owl in the thick snow, but in the morning it was just too cold for any prey and now he sat n the camp cranky as ever and tried to get feelings in his numb feet. With a snort, he began to lick against the grain, always keeping an eye on the camp entrance.

Although Poseidon tried hard not to do he trembled as he hopped with great leaps through the snowdrifts. He was several days in this valley, which seemed to have no way out. The handsome tom entered the woods, hoping to find there protection from the merciless winds, and in fact it was much more pleasant, even though Poseidon wondered if he would feel his ears and paws ever again. With a soft, amused snort he ran past the tall pines. Poseidon had seen nicer places, which he was sure. Or at least warmer.

R a v e n f e a t h e r
It was a typical morning for the older tom cat. He had woken up as the sun just began to rise in the sky, stretched, then shaken any clinging remnants of his den out of his fur. He had padded slowly out of the warrior den, yawned, then sat down for his morning bath. Bathing was of incredible importance to Ravenfeather. The fur around his deeper scars tended to mat up and gain an unkempt look if he left it alone, so he made sure to thoroughly wash himself once every morning and once every night. As he bathed, he watched the other cats of the clan rise from their slumber. He wondered what events the day would hold. Perhaps he should train his apprentice some? Yes, that would be a good idea. But he remembered telling Lynxpaw to take a break for most of today, as yesterday the two had spent their waking hours shoveling snow from the entrances of many dens. 'I should wait until the afternoon then...' Ravenfeather thought to himself.
