"No," River said patiently, "I can still stay there--the water didn't ruin it or anything," he sighed, "It'll just be wet for a while. It'll be fine after a few days--if it ever stops raining."

Pyrite nodded, before tentatively asking his next question. ”Is it true that strays are all bloodthirsty and evil? I mean, you seem alright, but I haven’t met any other strays and the neighbors tell lots of stories...”

River rolled his eyes up, contemplating for a moment before shrugging slightly, "Some are," he said, thinking back on the multiple scars he had collected because he stepped into the wrong cat's territory, "But most are just trying to get by and don't really care to be very cruel towards anyone else. The only really vicious cats I've met were trying to protect their territory and food--so even that much is understandable--although a bit excessive."

Pyrite nodded. Even though he could not relate to the type of life that River lead, but he understood. Most house cats were stereotyped as lazy, fat, useless lumps, but of course that was not true.

River twitched his ear, feeling a cold drop of rain settle on his fur again. He shuffled his feet, wondering how long he'd have to stay before it wasn't considered rude to leave. Then again, talking with the housecat wasn't too bad--he just needed him to carry the conversation because honestly, River didn't have much he ever wanted to talk about. He blinked at the ginger tabby, tilting his head slightly. He found it odd that the housecat had wandered so far to find him--couldn't he have talked to the other housecats in his neighborhood?

Pyrite blinked in confusion at River, who was eyeing him with a strange expression. ”What?” he said, tilting his head to the side.

"Why did you seek me out?" River asked, blinking at the housecat, "Aren't there other cats to talk to around your house?" he started to settle down but stood back up when he remembered how damp the ground was, "It's a bit far from your house, isn't it?" he asked, tilting his head towards the alley, "And wet."

Pyrite sighed halfheartedly. ”There’s no one to talk to. One of my neighbors never comes outside, and some of them are dogs. Plus, they don’t talk to me.” He mewed unhappily.

"Regrettable," River hummed, growing slightly distracted as his stomach started to ache from hunger, "Dogs are difficult to talk to--a sharp word or a hit usually gets your point across," he shrugged, "Like I said--I don't know if I'd hold great conversation either, but I suppose it is better than nothing."

Pyrite laughed lightly. ”Yeah...” he purred. Dogs were impossible to talk to, unlike this stray.
