River trotted into the forest, his tail held high at the familiar environment. The leaves were wet beneath his paws, but they were much preferable to wet concrete and there was no lingering stench from garbage and rats that hung around in the alleys. He would have liked to live in the forest, but they were a bit too dangerous for his liking, especially at night when foxes and badgers prowled ceaselessly. But the short distance to the rocks were always safe enough and there were always enough mice for a comfortable hunt.
He halted as they drew closer to the rocks and he nodded for Pyrite to stop, taking in deep breaths to try and scent prey underneath the mustiness of wet leaves and soil.
