➢ It was 7am and a miracle had occurred. Juliet Donovan was awake and functioning before the crack of noon. A large suitcase loomed in one corner of her room, seeming to fill the small space with its bulk. A pile of apparently very important items lay haphazardly on the bed nestled in the opposite corner. Wallet, phone, passport... it was all there. The girl herself stood in the middle of the room, still only wearing the mens t-shirt she used as pyjamas. With a final admiration of her handiwork, Jules strode out of her room, through the dingy hallway and into the kitchen she shared with two other girls. Having roommates wasn't all bad, but she was more than ready to leave them both behind. Her short, caramel blonde hair was currently pulled back from her face in a ponytail, well, more like a pony who's had it's tail docked, but a ponytail nonetheless. Humming softly under her breath, Juliet began going through her daily ritual - a pot of coffee on the stove, two pieces of bread in the toaster and a giant glass of water. She sat on the island bench, legs dangling over the side, lost in thought as she waited for her breakfast to be ready. Her mind was drifting, as it had tended to do for the past few days, to the trip she was about to embark on.

Was she nervous about it? Not particularly, being surrounded by strangers wasn't exactly her biggest fear. In fact, adding new faces to her growing list was always an exciting prospect. The thing she was more afraid of was having to do freaking marine research a month straight. The only reason she'd actually agreed to go was in the hope of earning some extra credit. Sure, she wasn't the worst student in the world, but her grades could use the help. Juliet was startled out of her reverie by the toast popping up, nearly giving her a heart attack in the process. Muttering curses under her breath, she retrieved her breakfast, lathered on a thick layer of peanut butter and set the plate down on the square kitchen table. Two minutes later, she was sat at the table with a steaming mug of coffee and an empty plate. A quick glance at the time glaring at her from the white clock hanging on the wall told her she'd have to be ready to leave in 30 minutes if she was going to make it in time. Heaving a sigh, Jules transferred her coffee into a travel mug and took it with her back to the bedroom.

After a hasty shower, taking care not to wet her hair, the young woman was wrapped in a towel, curling her frizzy blonde hair into some sort of order. With 15 minutes left, she still had to pick her outfit, get dressed and put on makeup, all of which could take 15 minutes on their own if she had the time. Deciding quickly that she had to dress simply, she pulled out a white cropped t-shirt and a pair of medium-wash mom jeans that she had to roll at the ankle thanks to her small stature. A pair of hoop earrings to dress up the look a bit, a hurried layer of makeup and soon enough she was pulling on her Adidas Superstars and heading for the door. The miscellaneous heap on her bed was scooped into a purse, and with suitcase in hand, Juliet stepped out of the apartment, letting the door click shut behind her.

Thankfully, she'd had the foresight to order an Uber, which patiently waited in the street below her building. "Uh, to the docks I guess," she said uncertainly, that was where the passenger boats went, right? She really didn't want to end up on some cargo ship to hell. The drive wasn't awfully long, but certainly long enough for Jules to get unbearably bored - not exactly a rare occurrence. She was grateful when the car slowed to a stop, a huge cruise ship looming a few hundred metres away. Murmuring an absent-minded thank you to the driver, she strutted onto the pier, her suitcase clattering along behind her. A man in a crisp sailor-looking uniform stood at the bottom of the boarding ramp, looking like he had a rod rammed somewhere very uncomfortable. Smiling brightly, Juliet approached him. "Hi there, I'm here for the marine research trip?" The man frowned slightly at her, the stark white of his uniform doing was doing nothing for his complexion, Jules noted. "Yes, wait here and someone will take your luggage, the other passengers will be along shortly." With a last grin, Juliet took a couple of steps towards the railing, leaning against the wood as she studied the glittering ocean spread before her. Yes, extra credit or not, she was excited for this trip.
