Maybelle

Female||The schoolhouse||Tagged:Bailey

She hopped down and looked at him her hands tugging at her skirt, “I sure as shooting hope so” She walked up and opened the door with the key, “Do you want to see the inside?” She held the creaking door open into the schoolhouse lined with desk and with pots in certain parts of the room. The chalkboard still with her neat scrawl of Psalms 23,she looked up at the ceiling and shook her head,

“are you sure it isn’t to much? I really don’t want to overwork you Mr,Bailey.” She smiled and rubbed her neck, “But it is mighty kind of you to offer. Most people wouldn’t bat an eye at the problem” She looked out the windows at the sunset over the sand in the city and the children running around, as she turned back, “This schoolhouse and those kids are my family...after my dad passed I moved out here..and..I guess I adopted. Anew life “

nita guerrero
(vaquero . location; in town . tags; open!)

    all nita could hear was the thunder of quetza's hooves as they pounded against the ground, the wind whistling past her ears and the rapid beating of her heart. she leaned back, spreading her arms open as she let herself enjoy the moment, legs tightening around her mare's bare back. she came forward with practiced ease, hands momentarily resting in the pale blonde of quetza's mane before she let go again, reaching for her gun as she neared where she needed to be. her eyes narrowed as she looked into the distance at a lone outcrop of trees. then she fired. a loud bang echoed across the empty plains, eyebrows knit together as she watched the two sand bags swinging side to side in a far away tree, each swing the opposite of the other. then she let out a holler when both burst open, one after another. she brought quetza down to a walk before steering her to the trees with her legs. there she cut the bags down and headed back to the house in the distance, it was about time she stopped practicing and actually got to work.

    nita hummed as she re-tacked her mare, the sand bags stored away in the little cellar below her house. it was really a 'nothing' kind of house on the edge of town, only about 20 acres but it was all she needed since her job as a vaquero kept her away a lot. it wasn't like she could go about breeding again like her mother did, and farming had never been her strong point. a few minutes later nita was back on quetza, in a saddle this time, a hat pushed down on top of her head, her curls wild and bouncing around her face as she made her way into town. as the idly wandered up a dusty street she wondered what she should do to kill time before she was needed.

Shiloh Fray
22 / male / vaquero
at; the saloon / doing; probably not what he's meant to be
“I’ve only heard good things,”he assured the worker, regarding him with careful eyes. “and you’re only sweetening my opinion of it by giving it to me no charge”
Shiloh winked at him before a whirlwind of a woman came rushing into the saloon. She introduced herself to Shiloh as Maybelle before she was off again, running over to where Bailey was sitting, looking like he didn’t want to be bothered none. She left Shy feeling slightly dazed at the speed of the interaction, he never was good at socializing when caught off guard.
He turned back to the bar to finally taking a long swig from the fabled beer to steady himself again, and man, that he would pay for. A slow smile pulled at the corners of his mouth. He looked back at the barkeeper with a coy glint in his eyes.

“Where are y’all finding something like that out here?” he praised softly, smile still on his lips.

Casimir Lodge
23|Male|Saloon Worker
Location: Saloon (The Silver Spur)
Tagged: Shiloh.
Casimir smiled politely at his words, "Well, that's certainly good to hear, sir. But like I said - first drink free only," and then he blushed slightly at the wink, turning towards Maybelle when she rushed in, pleased for the momentary distraction. "It's not a problem. We don't have many customers today anyway." He said, and gestured around the room. Not that he was entirely surprised anyway - it wasn't quite getting to the evening yet. He did spot that Bailey had walked in as well, and he waved in greeting - though he doubted that the cowboy saw it. No matter. He had the other bartender serve Bailey - this bartender seemed to do little else than try and socialise with people, but at least they weren't totally inept. Though they did keep them only serving - the rest of it was kept as a Lodge family secret. Cass turned his attention back towards the cowboy, to see him taking his first swig of the beer, and he watched, almost expectantly. And, naturally, he was incredibly pleased to hear the praise. He shrugged nonchalantly.
"Oh, we don't find it, per se. We make it ourselves." He responded, casually, as if it was the most normal thing to do in the world. "I'm pleased that you like it, though,"

“Huh,” Shiloh began.
For the first time, Shiloh fully took in the worker’s high cheek bones and athletic build. He licked his lips unconsciously and took another pull from his beer before taking a seat at the bar. His shoulders automatically slouched out of habit and he ducked his head, causing him to have to look up at the bartender. He regarded him for a moment before deciding that he was harmless enough.

“Cute and humble, not to mention talented,” he remarked boldly. The cowboy held out his calloused hand, long fingers outstretched, “Shiloh Fray.”

        BAILEY
        [ leader ][ schoolhouse ][ maybelle ]

          Bailey followed her inside, his eyes scanning the place, taking it in. It would be a lot for any ole other person, but Bailey knew he’d get it done. His father put a work ethic into him from a young age and pushed him throughout his teens and early twenties before he died. Work was all this cowboy knew.

          Maybelle’s voice brought him back to attention, having zoned out for a tiny bit. “Nah, sweetheart.” He replied, the nickname just a habitual way of speaking to women for him. It went unnoticed by the cowboy as he surveyed the one room schoolhouse, his hands now on his hips. “I’ll make a list soon and give it to my supplier, he’ll get everything within a day or two.” He informed, turning to face the woman, “I’ll start as soon as I can, ma’am.”

          It was the least he could do, as he thought before. The children needed a safe place to study from all kinds of Montana weather. If his Vaquero duties interfered with the task, then he’d send someone reliable to finish the job. “Now, if you’ll excuse me, Maybelle..” He stepped toward the door once, “I gotta be on my way. Do you want me to take you back to the saloon?” The offer wouldn’t be out of his way, plus he didn’t mind. She did leave her job on his time, it was the least he could do since he was heading back that way anyway.

Maybelle

Female||The schoolhouse||Tagged:Bailey

Maybelle laughed softly, “Oh you are a gem Bailey! And please don’t call me ma’am..Maybelle is Fine.” She tucked the last of the students chalkboards away and turned dusting off her hands on her outfit, “If it’s not to much trouble a ride would be much appreciated”
Before walking out she gave Bailey a quick hug and a kiss on the cheek, “You are the nicest person that I’ve met since I’ve moved here” She laughed and climbed up on the horse, “I really hope y’all stick around..it’s quite nice to have someone around who is polite”

        BAILEY
        [ leader ][ heading back to the saloon ][ maybelle ]

          He gave a dip of his head, like an understanding nod at her request to be called her name than the former. He watched her tidy up and wipe her hands on her dress and went to step out as well until he was met with a hug and a kiss to his cheek. It caught him slightly off guard but he didn’t think of it as a bad thing.

          Bailey smiled up at her on his horse and didn’t get on right away, his hand resting on the horn of the saddle. “I’ll stick around until the end of my days.” He replied, “I can’t say for the others, once we head out East an’ all.” Now he lifted himself up into the stirrups and settled in front of the woman, gathering the reigns and clicked his tongue combined with a spurred kick to his mare’s sides. “The guys don’t know about it yet. That’s why I gotta be on my way, you see.” He explained, taking a look at her over his shoulder.

          “We’ll be out soon, once we’re ready. Gone for a while, too.” He added, speaking like it was no big deal when in fact, it was a dangerous tread.

Maybelle

Female||The schoolhouse||Tagged:Bailey

Maybelle raised an eyebrow as she held on, “You’re heading East? That’s risky.... and not to mention dumb.” She chuckled softly as she watched the schoolhouse shrink, “and it was so nice to have y’all around.” She really did like the work ethic displayed in the visitors, they didn’t cause to much trouble. “so I’ll put this question out, what’s your big dream or goal one day Bailey? Become sheriff of a town? Run a small ranch?” She popped her knuckles,
“I’ll tell ya mine, after I meet the right guy, I want to settle down somewhere nice and quiet, just like my parents did. Start a family.” She laughed as they approached the town, “It’s kinda silly dreaming that off a singers and a schoolteacher salary, which is very little” As they approached the bar she sighed, “But I assume that I’m gonna end up working the rest of my life. No housewife or children,.” She shrugged, “Sorry I spoke way to much and didn’t do enough listening”

        BAILEY
        [ leader ][ the silver spur saloon ][ maybelle ]

          Bailey just shrugged at her comment about it being dumb to head East. He was naturally curious, and in some way Maybelle reminded him of his mother who would’ve begged him to stay. If his parents were here, he wouldn’t have became a cowboy at all- let alone the leader. He’d be stuck doing farm work. Of course, that was his dream too. Live out his youth as a cowboy, going down whatever path it took him until his age peaked and headed downhill- then, he’d retire to the farmlife once more.

          He listened silently to Maybelle speak, saying of her own hopes and dreams before apologizing for talking. Bailey halted Cameron but didn’t make a move to dismount just yet. “You’re alright, Maybelle.” He replied, “A good woman like you will sure to find an equally good man.” Bailey dismounted then, and helped the singer down. He’d bid her goodbye with a tip of his hat before turning and tying his mare to the hitching post again. Banjo had followed them the whole time and sat obediently at Bailey’s feet. “Go on home, dog.” He jerked his finger toward the way of their land, the aussie mix getting up to his paws and trotting away.
