What Are Vinylettes?


Vinylettes, along with their sub-species, are canine-like creatures who are the physical embodiment of love and nostalgia that people feel from music. Once believed to be solely based around musical material, it's been discovered that their themes can range from anything and everything. Vinylettes are very friendly and sing to communicate. Most often they're found roaming around places with lots of people and atmosphere.

Thread Rules
1. Art theft is (obviously) not allowed. This includes using the base lines,
stealing designs, or claiming another's Vinylette as your own.
2. Be kind and respectful!
3. Vinylettes taken offsite MUST link back to this thread.
4. It's also highly recommended that Vinylettes in your signature link back to the thread.
5. Please do not guilt trip or harass if you miss a litter.

Are Vinylettes free?
Yes! Currently I have no plans for shop litters so all Vinylettes will be either FCFS or Raffle/Event Prizes.

How'd you come up with Vinylettes?
I personally collect physical media and wanted to do something fun with that idea.

Who's that Vinylette up there?
That's RCA (very original, I know!) He's simple and his color palette is from the
orange and harvest gold RCA labels of the late '60s-mid '70s.

What gender is my Vinylette?
Whatever you would like them to be! They don't have a reproductive system,
and reproduce by mixing their themes together.

Vinylettes come in three varieties: 33 (the standard), 45 (basically the PPS version), and the elusive 78.
The platter on a Vinylette's back is able to play records; the tip of their tail typically functions as a needle and tone arm. Though it's not uncommon for a tail to be too short to reach the platter, in which case they can play with the help of another (via claw.)

Tapettes come in two varieties: the standard and the Mini-ette.
Tapettes don't have dog-like tails, instead their tails are usually made of tape (hence the name.)
Unlike their cousin, Tapettes aren't able to function as a cassette deck.

Trackettes also come in two varieties: the standard and the Mini-ette.
Trackettes are closely related to the Tapette, the only key differences being the loop on their back, three distinct markings on their hind legs, and canine-esque tails.
Trackettes are also unable to play tapes.

There is a chance that a Vinylette, Tapette, or Trackette may not have any distinguishing features and look like a regular dog. These are typically referred to as "Dog-ettes."
Mutations can occur with remixing that can lead to features being combined, ie. having a platter AND tape tail.

You wander into a quaint little record shop down the street and are greeted by a plethora of Vinylettes. They all gather around to welcome you, except they each seem to be singing a different song. You smile politely, and they disperse back around the store. Soon enough it's time to go and, as you move to leave, you spot a sign by the door that reads "FREE! One Per Customer :)" with an arrow pointing back into the shop. You turn around and see the Vinylettes looking up at you hopefully. After a quick contemplation, you decide to take one home with you.

Adoption Rules
1. Litters are given on a first come, first serve basis.
2. Because of this, it's recommended that you check the forms previous to yours.
3. You are only allowd to adopt ONE Vinylette per litter.
4. DO NOT edit your adoption form; if you need to change anything QUOTE IT.
5. Ones with names or say "reserved" beside them are taken.
6. You can keep track of your Vinylettes on our Member Archive if you'd like.

On your way home you spy something in the local thrift store that you've got to get a closer look at. You quickly make your way inside and over to your chosen item. It's exactly what you've been looking for! The cashier gives you a good buy and you say many thanks before heading towards the door. You stumble over something small and clutch the item to your chest in the hopes it'll survive the fall. A Vinylette presses it's nose to your leg as if wondering why you're now on the floor. The owner apologizes profusely, saying they've been trying to give away the creature to no avail. You watch as it lowers it's head, no doubt realizing it's the one who tripped you. It wags its tail as you hold your hand out to it, and you don't see the harm in taking a new friend home.

Here you'll find Vinylettes that haven't been adopted from a litter in over 24 hours and those that have been given up by their original owners. These will mostly be first come, first serve BUT some may be marked with certain conditions that will need to be followed (ie. for users without a Vinylette only.)

Shelter Guidelines
You are allowed to adopt one Vinylette per week.

All the species can breed with one another (this can lead to Vinylettes with tape tails/ Tapettes with platters/ etc.)
45s/Minis CAN NOT breed.
Littermates (creatures from the same litter) CAN NOT breed with one another.
