Prologue

Riley looked me in the eye as I cradled him, sobbing. His brown eyes were soft, loving. They made me cry harder. Blood welled from the wound in his chest. There was so much blood! Riley reached up to touch my cheek. My sobs slowly subsided.
"Anna, it'll be okay." He murmured. I shook my head.
"Your dying. How can it be okay?" My voice cracked.
"Because you live on. That's all I can ask." And then, he was gone. I looked at the boy I'd fallen for a year ago... And I knew he was right. Life had to go on. For him, I could survive. But this isn't where my story began. My story begins at Northridge college.
