There are a few threads you should check out. They're important and they may be useful to you as they were to me.

First we have the Rules for the Site and Forum. You should probably read all of it, as it is important.

Next, we have Adopt a Newbie. This thread is basically for newbies to get a "mentor" to show them around.

Then we have the Newbie Guide and Index.

That's probably it for those things.. Oh, wait. If you still need a bit of help, maybe you could contact one of the General Helpers to help you out! There's also a way to ask for help. You can send in a Help Ticket.

If you're interested in collecting pets on this site, make sure to visit the CS Free Adoptions board! They will have lots of adoption centers there. I also have some pets that I don't necessarily need anymore, and I will gladly give them to you if you want! Just PM me, and I'm sure we can work things out.
