What's the weirdest thing you've searched up for a book?
How to pick a lock, how to jump a train, and various information about living on the streets (particularly as a minor). Also what it feels like to be knocked out and Victorian English currency.

What is the weirdest thing you've written?
Hard to say... Weirdness is a hard thing to quantify.
My current project is about punk kids who live on a space station where everyone is named after flowers and there's no concept of gender who are fighting against a corrupt government.
Another story of mine is set in a small town where every inhabitant seems to be the main character of some ridiculous adventure story, where the main characters are a cyborg who just wants to be left alone with her books and a kid who has no memories so everyone is convinced he's some kind of demon for no good reason but he's pretty sure he's human (though he technically has no proof either).
In a very different vein of weird, there's the mostly pretty typical high fantasy story (except for the fact that I forgot to actually put in any magic) where the main character is the prince of a country which was recently conquered and every member of the royal family except for him was killed, so everyone wants him to lead the country in revolution and take his place as king - but he doesn't actually think he'd make a good king so he decides to help lead the revolution and then bring the country democracy.

So I just finished day 9 of my advent challenge and I'm just so happy with it! I wrote a little commentary to go along with it to kind of put some context into it in the post following it, and I really hope you all like it as much as I do!

Haha, I once wrote a story about two snakes falling in love
but immediately die right after.

I believe the search entry was, "what do you call the seating plush pillows that remove?" and "genital bone name."

Okay, I've just realised I've not had Femie speak Spanish at all yet?? It's her first language, how did I manage to just forget?
It was IRL Writer Friend™ who made me realise, because one of his characters speaks Portuguese and we were translating all of her outbursts and I just had that penny drop moment where I was like - "hang on, whoops!"
Anyways, anyone who's keeping up with 10,000 Doors, I'm going to be going back and changing Femie's dialogue a little into Spanish, mainly just her exclamations and short bits. She's still going to be saying the same things, just in Spanish because I'm an idiot and forgot that my Hispanic character speaks Spanish...

Honestly, I was wondering why the first indication anyone gets that she's Hispanic was when she talks about her Quinceañera
It's all fixed now, she's actually got dialogue in her first language now!

It was a good idea but I'm not too stable at the moment and I need time to myself because there's this thing I want to write, just to vent and stuff. It's a slam poem. I'm at a thousand words and I'm still going. Geez. There's a lot on my chest.

That's understandable, I kind of get how you feel. Most of my poetry is just me venting my feelings, though I tend to keep mine short, not some Paradise Lost kinda length you got going on there - kudos!

My biggest worry is trying not to be racist. I'm fairly knowledgeable about Spanish culture and such, but I still worry about whether that knowledge is biased or insensitive. It worries me because as my only character, if I write her wrong then the whole book is kind of made obsolete.

Making a faux pass against their culture, having the character do or say something that is unimaginable in their culture. Also just missing some important aspect of their culture that is critical to their lives and to the character.

What's your biggest worry when writing a character of a different race/religion/culture to you?
That I'll do it wrong, or put too much of /my/ culture into it. I like to try and find people from said culture, so they can steer me in the right direction, haha :p But that can make it really hard, so tbh I mainly just invent my own XD

Getting something wrong and offending those people. That’s kinda why I just tend to not right for other cultures...I would really love to, but I’m afraid I’d get something really wrong. I do have a Hispanic character though, so I mean? I suppose as long as I do my research it should be okay...
