Name: Drummer (I just think the name really suits him)
Character Personality: Drummer used to be a bitter, cold, pessimistic young dog because of all of the hardships he’s faced in his life, but after weeks and months of snapping at anyone who got close to him and pushing everyone away, loneliness began to seep into Drummer’s life and he decided to make a change when he couldn’t bear facing the void in himself that his personality had created. Now he’s a happy go lucky dog who attempts to make friends with any other dogs that he comes across and tries to see the good in everyone. Despite his new found cheerfulness and desire to make friends at every opportunity Drummer is not one to be gullible, which sometimes is an inconvenience because he believes he is the best judge of character and this leads to him becoming overly paranoid and suspicious of those who may just be trying to help.
Why you want them: The minute I saw this little guy I immediately clicked with him and wanted to do art of him. And then when I started thinking about the form I came up with a history and personality for him with ease just by looking at his expression and the little cape/blanket tied around his neck. I wanted a character that isn’t completely perfect but had flaws as well as good points. I’ve also been thinking of designing a character which is a domestic dog breed for a while now, but when I saw Drummer he fitted the role perfectly and let’s face it, who could resist his cute little face?

viewtopic.php?f=30&t=616149Short story, history or poem: Drummer is your average underdog, mistreated by everyone and loved by no one. Everyone’s last choice, even when it came to his parents, who abandoned him a week after he was born because he was the runt of the litter. Almost certainly doomed to die with no one to look after him the 1 week old, still blind pup gave up and lay down in a dark alley way in the pouring rain attempting to block out the hunger gnawing a hole in his tiny stomach and the confusion that raged through his undeveloped little brain about why he’d even been born to live a doomed, short, desolate life.
This was how a worker from the city pound found him. She’d been on her way home from work after a half day, but spotting the puppy as she drove past she took pity on him and lifted him off of the street and into her van. Once in the warmth Drummer stirred, seeing the sign of life the pound worker knew there was hope and she lifted a yellow blanket from the back of her van and tenderly wrapped the pup up in it. Being so tiny Drummer was able to be encased in the folds of the blanket 3 times over and then the kind human placed him in the passenger seat the blanket preventing him from being jolted around.
Drummer was then taken to the pound and kept on his own in a warm room until he was back to full health and had grown a good bit. When the time came he was introduced to the other dogs at the pound and kept in the same area as them. Soon after though the kind woman who had looked after him like her own pet, left his life like everyone else, moving to a smaller town to live. However being fairly small and scrawny for his age and with no one to look out for him the other residents at the pound scorned him and spent their time ignoring him or attacking him when they got the chance. His size and stature coupled with bruises and scars and his overall scruffiness deterred those who came to the pound from rescuing Drummer from his sanctuary turned prison.
Faced with all of the anger, hatred and rejection in his life, Drummer turned in on himself and his darker personality reared its head. Now when anyone visited the pound he threw himself against the bars of his cage, snapped his jaws rabidly if anyone came within biting distance of him and howled and snarled with all his might. After weeks of this behaviour there were talks of him being put to sleep.
Living at the pound for the time he had if there was one word Drummer understood it was that one. He knew it was time to break out of this prison so preparing by lifting his only possession which was the yellow blanket he’d kept with him since the day he’d been wrapped up in it Drummer got ready to kick his plan into action. The next day another worker came to fetch him to take him to get that fatal injection and as soon as the metal bars swung open he pounced on the worker’s hand and sunk his razor sharp fangs into his flesh. Amidst the mass confusion that erupted Drummer dived under failing arms and darted through legs until he burst out a back door into another alley. From there he sprinted as hard as he could desperate to escape his fate.
For 3 months Drummer lived on the streets, scavenging food from skips, bins and the occasional time when a human decided to throw him some scraps. He never stayed though mistrusting any form of human. Any other animals who approached him be they wild, stray or domestic he snapped at and scared off believing the only way to protect himself from being hurt was to not let anyone in his life. The only thing that remained constant was that yellow blanket he kept with him at all times.
After those 3 months was when the void deep inside Drummer appeared and the loneliness was making him want to scream. Then was when he realised that he was causing himself more pain than anyone else could ever do to him.
So Drummer began to open up to beings that he came across, though he was wary to begin with he developed a way to help him cope. He forced himself to stay around until he found at least one good thing in everyone he met, be they human or animal.
As he became accustomed to this way of thinking his cloud of rage lifted and he became more cheerful and willing to make friends with others, but he swore to himself that he’d never go back to a situation like the pound again by either letting others walk all over him or violently pushing others away.
Other: Sorry for the length of the story, I meant for it to just be his history but it sort of turned into a mix of history and a story. x3 I'd also like to thank you Uoneko for giving me the chance to adopt this guy and spending time designing him so another user could have a chance to adopt an amazing design.
