BH #096 - Spring Event Dog #06

Postby Sandy Hoofprints » Wed Mar 29, 2017 9:14 am

Baltic Husky x German Shepherd

This poor boy was confiscated from terrible owners who left him cruelly chained up outside with no shelter, and only infrequent insufficient food and water.

He still bears scars on his leg and muzzle from his chains, which were even wrapped round his mouth when we found him, presumably in a vain attempt to stop him barking, but now that's all over the wounds are healing well.

He was unbelievably skinny for his breed, but he has put on weight fast and he has flourished. The vets now award him a clean bill of health and he's ready for a forever home.

He does have some complex behavioural issues. To adopt him tell me how you will work on his behavioural issues (as well as the other requirements on the form).

Owner: aray17
Kennel: Golden Hills Kennels
Full Name: Strong as an Ox
Call Name: Berlin
Other pets and their personalities: I have a lot of dogs so here are just a few. The rest can be found at Golden Hills Kennels. Lajila is very shy but has lots of energy. Alaska, Juneau, Zada, and Phoenix are all very mellow girls and would be comforting companions. They are all easy-going and very friendly. Roy is the leader of my pack and Zavier is his close right hand man. Ford, Everest, Harley, Lyra, Penny, Alei, Bentley, and Davidson are all very exuberant, which might trigger Berlin to go into attack mode at first so I would have to keep them away from him at first so he can ease into her new home and not cause a fight. Levon and Russell are very mellow gentlemen and could also be great friends for Berlin to warm up to because of their calm demeanor and sweet personalities. They wouldn't start a fight with Berlin but would fight back if attacked. All of my dogs are very approachable and sweet dogs so they would all greet him and welcome him into the family graciously. If he tried to fight them, they would either run away or fight back. All of my dogs are socialized very well so he would not be snarled at or barked at. They would most likely ignore his barks and snarls. But, Roy, Zavier and Ford would all stand their ground and show Berlin whose in charge.

Are you willing to put in the time and effort to train your new dog? Yes, to get Berlin to stop going into attack mode, I would keep him isolated in a nearby kennel that is next to the rest of the kennels, but he would have his separate corral to run in and play in. But he would be close enough to smell and sense the other dogs. To get him more socialized, I would have him first meet the mellow boys of my bunch: Russell and Levon. I would have him first meet them one at a time and would make sure it is supervised so a fight does not break out. To get him used to not being alpha, I would have him be around Roy, Zavier, and Ford as much as I could. But, they would be supervised to make sure no one gets hurt. I would also keep him away from the girls for awhile so he doesn't try to claim them because most have mates and their mates would not appreciate it if Berlin came along and tried to steal their girls.

Do you know what heartworms are and how they are prevented? yes they are treated with shots and are prevented with chews and topical ointments. They are transmitted by infected mosquitoes.

Are you willing to make any changes or special alterations in order to accommodate any special needs your new dog may have?: Yes, at first, I would keep him separate from the rest until he is acclimated and not as aggressive. I would feed him separate from the rest so he doesn't try to attack any of my babes. I would bring in trainers and specialists to help with his behavioral issues and I would spend extra time training him. I would hand feed him to get him to trust me. And I would try to bribe him a little with some treats.

What may be a reason that you would return this dog?: If he was too aggressive towards my other dogs, especially Roy, Zavier, or Ford, I would have to return him.

Owner: Eremite

Kennel: Recluse Kennel

Full Name: RK's From The Ashes

Call Name: Phoenix

Other pets and their personalities: I have way too many to list all of them here but they can be found at my kennel. For Phoenix due to his lack of socialization Phoenix is very shy and often times stand offish with other dogs. Due to his lack of impulse control he has a difficult time restraining himself around small prey animals. I think he would mesh best with Ophelia as she's a calmer and more relaxed dog that will allow him to investigate without acknowledging him to let him build his confidence.

Are you willing to put in the time and effort to train your new dog? Of course! Part of getting a new dog is taking the time to train with them. On everything from building to confidence and bonding to overcoming fear and reactivity.

Do you know what heartworms are and how they are prevented? Heart-worms are a parasite transferred by infected mosquitoes. They are prevented with either a shot or pill given in varying in lengths depending on the prevention used.

Are you willing to make any changes or special alterations in order to accommodate any special needs your new dog may have?: Absolutely! When bringing any new dog into my kennel they obviously must first go into a quarantine on the off chance they may be carrying anything contagious. It also allows the new dog time to adjust and relax in its new surroundings. I'll set aside extra time to work with him on simple confidence building to strengthen our bond and build his trust in me.

What may be a reason that you would return this dog?: There are very few reasons I'd return a dog after I have made a commitment to it. The biggest reason would be that I simply wouldn't be able to work on its issues to the extent or level that it requires, I wouldn't want to hold him back. Another obvious one would be if my health suddenly declined and I wouldn't be able to take care of him properly forcing me to give him up.
Blame is a coward but self-righteous
A funny little creature hiding out in me
Hate is power with a price tag
A funny little creature screaming out in me
Listen to me
Fear is a liar but he's been right before
If you fight your shadow, you'll get lost in a war
Ambitions a champ, but he's also greedy
Drunk or sober he always wants more
I always want more
I always want more
Lust is beauty in a body bag
A funny little thing that's screaming "Just use me!"

good afternoon everyone! I apologize for the delay on this adopt.

with baltic huskies being reopened, I have spoke to CS oekaki staff about these competitions and what to do with them! all unjudged dogs will be transferred over to new lines, and their competitions extended! this being said:

this dog is being temporarily revoked and placed on hold so that they can be transferred for free to the new lines. anyone who was entered in a competition for this dog will still be honored and have their forms automatically counted in the new competition, and will be welcome to edit+add to their forms if they wish!

for dogs that have competitions that will be impossible to judge by someone else other than the artist (such as a guess the genotype), these competitions will be converted into raffles so that everyone who entered will get a chance.

thank you for being patient, we greatly appreciate it! if anyone has any questions, please feel free to contact me!
