The Story
why does this tolt have a extreme fascination with fireflies?

Vesta has a fear of the night and darkness itself. Not only in the literal sense but the metaphorical sense of darkness in herself and the people around her. She admires the firefly, small but able to guide themselves through the night with their own light. The small insects are her light at the end of the tunnel, a source of inspiration and happiness to follow when it seems the night is swallowing her whole. In a Filipino myth a bird showed the fireflies a torch, and explained to them how it scared the fruit bats. These bats were the fireflies enemies, and thus the bugs began to carry small torches on their own. This is the story of how the Fireflies gained their light. Vesta hopes to follow in their tiny footsteps, finding her own torch to stay true to herself and find her path in the light.

Here the sun is sitting and the fireflies are terrified of the dark. In the Filipino myth a Bird shows them the use of torches and fire to scare fruit bats away. This depicts the fireflies using the torch.

fruit bats are a natural predator to the firefly. This a split, the top saying 'fear the night' with multiple bats flying through the unavoidable darkness. The bottom says 'bask in the light' with the fireflies swirling in the fire they have created to keep the bats away. A classic battle of light and dark, good and evil.

Here is Vesta enjoying her firefly friends. The top head shot having one landing on her nose, and the bottom a few flying around her face. It is apart of her routine to go out during the night and stay with the fireflies, battling her own fears of the Dark with her companions of light.

I don't have many friends yet, but the fireflies are my home. I can still feel you next to me, sometimes if it's late enough it's almost as if the fireflies are you - galloping next to me through the forest. The first night I spent here I cried until I felt like I had cried enough water for me to swim home. I missed you Caspy, and Momma and Pa and the foals of the herd. I thought I was alone, but this light landed on my nose. I thought it was angel, more and more surrounded me and I felt as if they guided me until the sun had rolled over.
