Rider; ABeardedDragon
Name; Ikaheka
Gender; Female
Species; Monstrous Nightmare
Taming Entry;I went to explore the nearby islands with my Hideous Zippleback,
Malice and Mercy today. Nothing could have prepared me for this nightmare that I found. I thought I might not live to write in my journal again.
While flying over one island on the back of my dragon, Malice started fighting against his body. It was unsafe to fly like this so we had to land in a small clearing in a forest. Malice started breathing gas. Obviously something was bothering him. Most likely another dragon nearby. "Stay here," I ordered my dragon. If there was another dragon, Malice would try hurt it; I couldn't allow that to happen. Then I wandered into the dark, dense forest. I heard something approaching quickly. The next thing I knew I was on the muddy floor. A large green dragon stood over me. It didn't take long to realise which dragon she was. Monstrous Nightmare. Fast, short-tempered and aggressive. I didn't stand much of a chance. I struggled from underneath her and ran, trying not to slip in the mud. The dragon growled then breathed fire at me; I only just managed to avoid the scorching hot flames.
There was a loud thud behind me and I heard the dragon cry. Whether that was in pain or anger, I don't know. I turned to face her and found that Malice and Mercy had pinned the dragon to the floor. He held her head down by her dark horns. The beast struggled. She released small amounts of flame quickly. It didn't seem that the blue dragon was harming her; she was just scared. I made my way to them carefully. I didn't want to slip or be burned. When standing in front of the dragon, I reached out to stroke her nose. Maybe she would trust me. She snapped at my hand. I didn't have any fish so I feared that this would take a while. Then she set herself on fire.
How could I forget about that? I thought. I ran away from the burning, furious dragon. Luckily she was distracted by my Zippleback. Thinking of how to handle the situation, I observed the dragon. She couldn't very well. After her flames extinguished, I moved behind her. It wasn't the best idea, but I grabbed her tail and started climbing up her body. Hopefully Monstrous Nightmares couldn't re-light their bodies so quickly. I reached her head, where I grabbed her horns to stay on. Then I started stroking her neck and head. It seemed like forever before she started to calm down, but it was only a minute or so. She growled which almost sounded like a cat purring. Malice was not comfortable with this as he saw it as a threat but Mercy swiftly reassured him that it was fine.
The green dragon managed to walk out of the mud. I mounted her and sat on her back. I did intend on crafting a saddle when we got home. I tried to get her to fly but she refused.
Stubborn, I thought at first. But then she attempted to move her wings, then I noticed something was wrong. I got off her neck and went to examine her left wing. It took a while before I found that she had sprained her wing. She couldn't fly back home with me. So we walked closer to the coast where there was a small camp I had made on a previous visit. I tore a page out of my journal and started to write. It was a note to explain why I wouldn't be home today. I gave it to Mercy since I trusted him more with it. "Take this to my family," I said. He understood and took flight, disappearing into the sky. Then I was left with my new dragon. She was still fairly terrifying. I sat and watched her. Her colour reminded me of venom or another toxin. In turn, this made me think of the name Ikaheka. A species of venomous snake. And so, her name was Ikaheka. It would only take a few days for her wing to be healed, then we could return home.
