"This poor old gelding has some very obvious signs of abuse by soring. His tender front legs are riddled with chemical and whip scars and his hooves are still slightly malformed. According to the file he came to the auction with he was evidently purchased as a show horse, but during the first inspection at his first show with his new rider, the judges disqualified him due to his scars. The owner was oblivious to the injuries, outraged by being unable to 'use' his expensive show horse, and in turn dropped him off at auction in hopes that the equine he was so angry with would be slaughter bound. Not even the auctioneers were happy to see this note in his file, and as such put a 'minimum buy' on the poor gelding. Thankfully this ensured no one else attempted to buy him and our rescuers were easily able to scoop him up and get him back to the center. Surprisingly, despite the stress and pain he had been through, the little equine was fairly pleasant through the whole process. In fact it wasn't until our vet attempted to look at his feet that there was an issue. He immediately kicked and thrashed and pitched a fit, making it impossible for anyone to get near his hooves. From a standing point the vet was at least able to say that he would definitely need some long term pain medication and or physical therapy as well as a very thorough hoof cleaning from a proper fairer - however it would need to be done while he was sedated. Hopefully once everything is set and he is no longer in pain, this lovely SWE can become an equally wonderful companion."
