Here he is: Blitzen! He is an interesting mix with a Quarter Horse sire and a Warmblood mother with a hint of draft in her. He was technically a pair of twins that melded early on in the womb, which is why he sports both a Smoky Grullo Base and a Dapple gray one. He is black-based both sides, and gets the dun gene from his sire and the gray from his mother. Apparently the pair of twins combined makes for quite the amount of energy, because this boy has a lot!
Blitzen is the German word for "lightning" and, so this guy has the melded colors of storms, with lacing and a stripe to represent lightning bolts. He has the white heel marking to show speed and energy, and he has a windblown mane. His tack is inspired by the Russian troikas, of which he is a 'center horse'.

Blitz has always been easily excitable , and its difficult to hold his attention for more than a few minutes. He's always goofing off and playing around- and he loves to run! But he more oft' than not gets himself into trouble with other equines, and his human handlers. If he isn't playing some joke on somebody- then he can be found picking fights with other hroses - most of the time with those stronger or bigger than himself. his ego tends to get in the way, but once you get to know him, he's very loving and loyal.
Art/Story of his Adventure:
A snort escape his nares, his breath spiraling skyward on the brisk morning. Impatient hooves stamped out of tandem , tails flicking to and fro to emphasize the group's anxiety. Blitzen turned his head- gaging up the crowd. IT was a good turn out. Deep down he was nervous- realizing he had stepped way out of line this time. But his pride wouldn't hear a thing about it- EH was going through with this. He sighed deeply- his sides heaving with the effort, and he flicked his ears uneasily. There were soft whickers and whinnies spreading through the group as the other horses expressed their disbelief, their doubts, their suspicions. The snow below them had melted to reveal a muddy , slick hoof trodden circle. After what seemed like forever- one by one the other's ears pricked, and their heads jolted upwards and towards some oncoming point of interest. Blitzen took another deep breath before he ,too, turned to face his opponent.
See, Blitzen had been nickering a lot fo smack lately. His bragging had gotten him into a bit of a peppermint. His pride and his love of running had him prancing around like the Horse Lord of Sheba, and one thing lead to another- and he'd gotten himself into a betted race. No big deal, right? Wrong. It just so happens that his big maw had gotten him into this betted race with high class Racing thoroughbred, who had several wins on his girth. Needless to say- the Thoroughbred was very fast- and much larger than Blitzen.
While the crowd's ears perked in interest, Blitzen and his opponent- Ruff- a descendent of the famed Ruffian- ears were pinned in distaste. Blitzen knew he was in over his head. Ruff had stride and training on Blitz. Blitzen could only hope for a miracle. The two stallions stood side by side, tails thrashing angrily- hooves stamping anxiously- their breaths coming in short, excited bursts. The crowd of horses parted , lining the race stretch . Seemed simple enough- straight shot- round the oak grove, and back. First one back won. Granted there was snow, now, and who knew what lurked beneath the glimmering powder.
Truth be told, Blitzen wasn't sure when 'Go' was established- btu there they were- barreling through the snow towards the oak grove, which seemed miles away. Blitzen held back at first- Ruff too, it seemed. Saving it all for th efinal stretch, blitzen assumed. The hwole while Ruff was whinnying at him, awful things escaping that pretty maw of his. Tehir ears remained pinned. The grove came closer, and each slowed to round it safely. When they had cleared the grove- it was like lightning had hit between the two. Ruff suddenly kicked out at Blitzen , causing him to skid and slip . Ruff whinnied a laugh and barreled on. Blitzen gathered himself and hurried on- his muscles and sinew pushing harder than they ever had. It just wasn't fair! Ruff had cheated, and was going to get away with it!
Ruff turned his head to whinny another laugh at the poor sap who thought he could best a champion. Only- Ruff didn't pay attention to his path. The trail they had blazed going down, was far more treacherous going back . Not accounting for the mud- Ruff slipped and skidded into a large snow drift, and could do no more than watch , stunned and astounded as Blitzen barreled past the finish line. The crowd - who had been pacing and crow hopping anxiously- now erupted with shrill whistles an dwhinnies of excitement- rearing and bucking around the new barnyard champion.
Blitzen joined in their antics for only a moment. He spotted ruff collecting himself form the snow, and with a downcast head and pinned ears, started to walk away from the group. Blitzen flicked his ears uneasily, and trotted up to the stallion. The two shared a long, stand offish look- before Blitzen stretched out his nose and nuzzled the other stallion's shoulder. Ruff may have been trained and skilled at racing- but he was young and lacked certain key wisdoms , that Blitzen possessed well beyond his years, and any elder would have scolded Ruff for.
The two remained friends until Ruff was sold to a breeder- Blitzen heard he's got a new jockey and everything- and has a chance at the Kentucky Derby. And Both learned a valuable lesson that day.
Expect the unexpected- after all. You never know when Lightning will Strike again.
