Species by Stubborn
What is a Pista?
Pistas are large, weasel like creatures that live near and in swamps, as well as heavily wooded areas. They have long, elegant skulls; with a jaw powerful enough to snap even the hardest bones. They have a small overbite, rounded ears. Large, round eyes, with X like pupils, that allow them to keep unwanted light out. They have long, muscular bodies; a thick, yet stunted neck; and powerful hindquarters. They have a long, heavy tail that helps them keep balance while walking through water or swimming. They have 6 toes on each paw, webbed, which also allows great swimming. Lastly they have a few feather like fur hairs on their rumps (It warns predators from the back, and also attracts mates.)
Behavior:
Pistas are fairly laid back creatures; who would much rather lazy around all day or search for food. Towards each other they can be very friendly and form friendships and relationships quickly. However, towards other creatures; Pistas have been known to be very violent in their ways. Pistas have no predator besides humans hunting them - so everything else is their food. The most well known fights tend to break out between Pistas and alligators, and Pistas and large felines (Depending on the area).
Pistas can be lone creatures or pack animals, depending on the said Pista. 'Packs' can includes around 3-4 other Pistas.

Diet:
Pistas are omnivores, and will just about anything. Fruit, bark/twigs, bugs, and animals. They are very good with staying away from anything poisonous or bad for their digestive systems. Their long claws allow them to be delicate with picking fruit/bugs, without squishing them. Their overbite and opposite pointing canines allow them to shred and tear meat quite easily, or dig into bark and rip it off trees.
Breeding and Courting:
Male Pistas may fight another, or win the affection of a female Pista by bringing her beautiful stones or good meats. It is the female Pista that uses her rump fur-feather color to attract males and have them impress her. If she does not like either gesture of the males, she moves on to find a different group of males. If she does however, she will mate with that Pista for life - so she must be very sure.
Bringing food, stones, or fighting is just the first step. Male Pistas must continue on with the female to prepare bonding time, where the two get to know each others' habits more in depth, and become one. Once mating season rolls around, the two Pistas that have already bonded will have a litter of 3-4 Pistlets.
Pistlets:
Baby Pistas (Pistlets) are very playful and full of energy. Their energy will wear down as they age.
Age:
Pistas live about 40-50 years. And start reaching senior age around 30-35 years old.
