How many birds do you own? ( if applicable ): 2 zebra finches (soon to be rehomed)
How long have you had them?: Since last april
What brings you to the bird chat?: I was wondering about java finches and societies. My birds pluck each other and all tries to fix it have not worked, so I would like to know before selling these two if soc's and javas have a sweeter temperment.

Hey everyone!! Sorry to barge in like this, but great news! If any of you remember my budgie Spring from a few pages back - his cere has changed back to blue and he seems happier than ever!! I'm still in the process of converting his and Candy's diet from seeds to pellets - we recently ordered the Nutriberries as recommended and they'll be arriving soon - but today's the first day that I received a solid sign that Spring is on the mend and I am so, so thankful for everyone's help and advice on this thread. I couldn't have done it without all you kind people. From the bottom of my heart, thank you all so much!! Hopefully I'll get a picture of him and Candy on here later if they can hold still for the camera, lol.

My username is EmeraldBirb
I have 4 birds, 2 Cockatiels; Casper(female) and Makari(male), a really sweet green Quaker named Iris(female), and a budgie named Sky(male).
I have had Casper for 8 years, and Makari for 7. I just recently got Iris and Sky in September of last year.
I come to this chat because I love all birds and animals. I also want to be able to talk to people who have birds themselves and understand how amazing and smart birds can be.

long time no post, sorry, haven't been on much, but there's a problem with one of my budgies

Quibly has been rubbing his head and nose on perches a lot over the past week and sneezing a bit more than usual, but I didn't think anything of it. However this morning he had water-like nasal discharge when he sneezed, and a fair amount of it. I couldn't tell if it was from one or both nostrils, but the right one was running for a bit after he sneezed... I have made a vet appointment for Saturday, but I only have one cage and 2 birds. Juno hasn't shown any symptoms yet, but anything I do to try and separate them doesn't work, they cling to the celling of the cage or fly to one another. It really makes me upset to have to separate them, but don't want them both to be sick! I don't know what I'd do without either of them!
How should I care for Quibly in the mean time, and how can I separate them in a way they won't be upset?

I am not an expert, but I'd say to just keep Quibly happy and maybe look online for a way to de-congest a bird? If the room is super dry maybe find a way to bump up the humidity? I really don't know... Definitely keep an eye on both of them.

However, for the separation thing, the only way they wouldn't get upset is if you still kept them really close to each other.

I have no idea if the sickness is contagious or anything still. Make sure to take both birds to the vet just in case the second one is sick too. Honestly though I don't have much experience with sick birds, but I hope something out of this email might help.

I really hope that the vet can help you and that your birds stay in good health!
