Your Sadness is Valid

It was sad because while she worried about whether that skirt fit her top,
I worried about my next meal
It was sad because while she worried about whether her highlights looked perfect or not,
I worried about finding a place to shower
It was sad because while she worried about her friends having a fight,
I worried about my parents falling apart
It was sad because while she worried about moving into a smaller apartment,
I worried about finding a home
It was sad because while she worried about completing her homework,
I worried about paying my phychiatrist

It was sad because I worried about her problems
and it was sad because I didn't want her to worry and
It was sad because I would hire and clown just to make her laugh
with money found under vending machines but then again
I remember that she was afraid of them anyways
And it was sad.
Because I wanted to see her smile
and it was sad because she'd brush off my fake smile and
it was sad because she knew I was sad and
it was sad because I knew she was sad
but sad for the wrong reasons, or maybe the right reasons
or maybe our lives were so different that
she had to worry about a pimple and
I had to worry about infectious diseases
and it was sad cause I couldn't see why she was sad
and it was sad because I was ignorant to think that her pain was less then mine
and it was sad because I was oblivious to the pain and suffering of others other then my own
and it was sad because she was perfect
it was sad because she couldn't see it
and it was sad because sometimes I couldn't either
That skirt does fit that top just tuck it in
I'm having guava for dinner, don't you worry about me
Your highlights look fine its honestly just the lighting
I can shower in college pools ill be alright
Just stop mentioning the drama and it'll blow over

The Raccoon


It happened in the dead of night while I was slicing bread for a guilty snack.
My attention was caught by the scuttering of a raccoon outside my window.
That was, I believe, the first time I noticed my strange tendencies as an unusual
human.
I gave the raccoon a piece of bread, my subconscius well aware of the consequences.
Well aware that a raccoon that is fed will always come back for more.
The enticing beauty of my cutting knife was the symptom.
The bread, my hungry curiosity.
The raccoon, an urge.

The moon increments its phase and reflects that much more light off of my cutting
knife.
The very same light that glistens in the eyes of my raccoon friend.
I slice the bread, fresh and soft. The raccoon becomes excited.
or perhaps I'm merely projecting my emotions onto the newly-satisfied animal.

The raccoon has taken to following me.
You could say that we've gotten quite used to each other.
The raccoon becomes hungry more and more frequently, so my bread is always handy.
Every time I brandish my cutting knife the raccoon shows me its excitement.
A rush of blood. Classic Pavlonian conditioning. I slice the bread.
And I feed myself again.

Something About A Duck


A duck is common,
They say "quack" and chill by the water,
It's something about a duck,
Green and brown or white and black,
They are all unique in their own ways.
Something about a duck,
They are pretty but not as pretty as a Swan,
A duck most of the time flees from humans while Swans will attack.
It's a duck life out they're, we just happen to be in it.

In the deep deep night
A raven sits still on the tree
Having returned home from a long long flight
And seeing all to see

A raven pecking at the ground
Finding all of the food that it may
And making only a “chirp chirp” sound

What do these birds have the same
They both have similar lives
Each plays their opponent at their own game
But only one of these two ravens, survives

Judgement

I'm weighed down by their judgmental stares.
They're watching.
Always watching waiting on me to finally feel like it's okay for once in my pitiful life.
Then they're at it again.
Judging me because I'm different.
For my colored hair, ripped jeans, and scars littering my wrists.
I'm an outcast a reject in your eyes I'll never be more.
You beat me down with glaring eyes and ruthless statements.
Leaving me with pieces broken beyond repair.
But maybe I'm done caring about your judgmental stares.

WHY SHOULD I STUDY FOR SCHOOL?

Why should I study for school?
Why should I do my homework?
It's not really cool
And it's such hard work

Well my dear friend, I'll let you know
What would happen if you do not
I had a friend who didn't grow
Since the education he never caught

He never took notes or said things in class
He never did his homework or turned up for the exam
Sure, to the rest, it made him look badass
But in reality, it got him in a jam

Because, my friend, when school's ending was near
And he failed his exams again and again
While the rest were partying, drinking a beer
He was to be workless, bound by a chain

For he couldn't graduate, not without a single pass
Which meant that his education he was unable to continue
So he was the lone wolf in the rest of his class
And now he stood with a major issue

For no notes meant no passed exams
And no passed exams meant no graduating
For no graduating came no job
And with no job came no money
For no money he could not buy food
And without food he started to get sick
For unable to pay for medicine, his illness got worse
And with that illness came a painful death

So you see, my friend, that is why you should study
And that is why you should do your homework
For even if it doesn't seem cool to your buddy
Isn't it better than not getting any work?

It’s like,
everything shuts down,
and suddenly,
I can’t breathe,
can’t do anything,
but sit here in silence,
hoping it won’t last long,
wondering,
how I can possibly stay strong.
It doesn’t matter how happy I am,
how good things seem to be going,
the emptiness consumes me,
it’s the only thing inside me,
and nothing matters,
nothing will ever matter,
because I don’t have hope,
I don’t even want to be alive.
And I wonder,
if it shows on my face,
if the light leaves my eyes,
as soon as the momentum fades,
and I’m left alone,
given time to think.
I wonder,
if you can see how lost I am.
I’ve hidden it so well for 19 years,
but now my walls are falling,
my demons bursting through the seams,
so it just seems,
I can’t keep everything from showing anymore.
The hatred flashes across my face,
the depression lingers,
so I turn away,
I force a smile,
then force myself to say,
I’m perfectly okay.
But I’m not,
I haven’t been okay,
since I lost everyone,
haven’t been okay,
since the nightmares began,
I just haven’t been okay,
as far back as I remember.
All my memories are streaked with anger,
polluted by this sadness.
I still remember,
the day I first picked up the knife,
still remember,
the day I was truly ready to end my life,
all I remember,
is a house I never called a home,
a family that was never my own,
and this burning anger,
that’s been my constant companion.
I can’t be fixed because I was never whole,
even before the depression,
the hatred was eating away at my soul.
