what do you think makes for a successful roleplay?

i think it's just general interest, and participation; though i can honestly say that i've seen rps that die because the owner poofs off. there's a fair number of roleplays i've been in where everybody contributed to the plot, everybody had fun, and it's been wildly successful.

what do you think makes for a successful roleplay?
i really think it depends on the members and how willing they are to stick with a roleplay. if even one member of a small rp leaves it affects the whole group because roleplays depend on the group. we have to hold each other up; if one person lets go everyone starts to fall over. that's how i think of it at least, and i can admit to sometimes being one to let go if i'm not interested enough in the plot or in love with my character.

it's really a shame that it works that way, sometimes i've been super into a rp and have to watch it die because someone else loses motivation to reply and continue. roleplays are all about teamwork, so you essentially need a group of roleplayers ready to work together to build a plot! this also has to be on a reasonable timeline; over time you lose inspiration if you do nothing with it. you really have to find the goldilocks zone in any rokeplay, together but not completely dependent, on time but not rushed or too lazy etc. roleplaying is hard to do successfully which sucks because i love it but i haven't in so long because of many of these. i know it's partially my fault for not seeking roleplays actively due to laziness/lack of motivation but /: i miss it!
