Yeah I heard about that, some people from Finland in a groupchat I'm in were pretty upset about this. It's quite a shame you didn't get to select the artist.

its finally eurovision time again! ill make sure to highlight any news from swedens side, and ill also take the liberty to explain our system. feel free to read if youre interested!

we decide our song for eurovision by having a separate contest called the "melody festival" (melodifestivalen) which goes on for six weeks and takes place every saturday in different cities. each show is one and a half hour long.
the first four are for introducing all the entries, seven per week, twenty-eight entries in total, and every show you get to vote. the two artists with the most votes are immediately approved for the finale, the two artists with the third and fourth amount of votes are sent to the "second chance" round, and the remaining three are out of the competition.
on the fifth week, its time for said second chance round! the four artists with the most votes in this round also get sent to the finale, and the rest are also out of the competition. the second chance round is also a bit special because instead of having each artist sing their song one after the other, theres a duel format in which the artist battle eachother.
on the sixth week we have the finale! all the remaining entries sing their songs. the winner is decided both by the swedish populations voting and an international jury. not everyone likes this jury, but i dont think theyll ever abolish it. the person with the most votes wins the competition, gets a little statue called the "singing bird" and is swedens entry for eurovision.

so, where are we right now? the finale is actually taking place this coming saturday (10/3), so sweden will have their entry soon!

sidenotes : entries dont have to be sung in swedish (as you can tell), any language is fine. the contestants dont have to be swedish either - for example, margaret from this year is polish.

Hello!
I've been a fan of Eurovision since I was a little kid, and I watch it every year.
It's a tradition at this point! C':

This year, the only song I heard is from my country.
This song:

And uh... Not really a fan. A bit too slow for my taste.
The song I really liked from my country is Lighthouse.
Probably because it has "The Cranberries" vibes to it.

Anyways,
Should I spoil myself, and listen to all the songs before the Eurovision,
or actually wait until it all starts, and be surprised?

I also think I'll draw some 2-3 minute sketches
of the contestants (As in, I'll draw them while they're performing).
I've been wanting to do that last year, but didn't.
Hopefully this year I will do it, and I'll show it to you guys! ^^

Well, personally I've tried both and I've found that I enjoy Eurovision more if I've heard everything beforehand. My opinions tend to change after listening for a few times so it's a good way to avoid me making voting mistakes. I also find the night itself more enjoyable when I excited to see my favourites perform. The memes and everything else on Tumblr is also a lot of fun to follow. Of course everyone is different but that's my opinion.
